Why have you picked the Altmer race?

I initially chose Altmer because I liked the "high elf" vibe... Turns out I liked the way they're portrayed in LotR, not in TES... Gave up on them because they are too racist and perfectionist for my taste. Now I just like their beautiful zones, esp. Auridon.

I picked Altmer because A: I like their passive skills. B: I like their lands. C: She looks beautiful.
However, I also have the head cannon that my Altmer defected from the Dominion. So, Ya know?

I didn't. I'm way too used to playing humans and elves in every other game already. The slavery/supremacist thing is also horrid. Plus, I love animals. XD

Khajiit all the way.

Don't take it the wrong way though. There's altmer and dunmer that I genuinely like.

For me its quite the opposite scenario, Coming as an enormous Tolkien fan I find it far more intriguing to have completely different representation of High elves to those from Tolkien's Legendarium for instance, elves here are far from pure ,unspoiled and inherently good. They were given far more freedom and of course it may be or may not be influenced by Creator's or writers religious orientation /sex etc.Exactly they strive for perfectionism ,as for racism I find it odd how many people love Nords or loved Skyrim yet there was incredible amount of racism in particular coming from local guards and. At least in Elder Scrolls Online Cats are allowed inside the city. Yea Auidon is a jewel.

Lore & story wise:

-Most advanced/civilized/magical society

-Best mages were often Altmers, they have hands down the best educational/research sources in Tamriel

-Descendants of original Aldmeris

-They look amazing physically (especially Altmer bois look handsome

)

-Overall they are indeed superior than other races

Gameplay wise:

-Best mag dps in PvE and magspec for PvP too, that allows you to play more aggressively + more dmg (I love that stam regen!)

B/c Altmers are the most intelligent, most magical gifted, most cultured of all the races and I main a sorc. Plus they got the best style of architecture and zones (Auridon and later Summerset). As well as a good looking, relative young queen (with a really weird hat) for a leader as opposed to some hairy old dude like the other 2 factions.

I like to have at least one of every race, so I've recently finally made a single altmer. They are far from my favourites but I like all the races of Tamriel. It also gives a lot of nice variation for roleplaying and Fashion Scrolls Online™.

Mine is probably an altmer with a capital A, but not in the hoity toity I'm superior way. She's altmer in the "Aim for perfection" way, and everyone no matter race can reach and fail at perfection. Including altmer. ...Especially altmer who believe they are automatically superior and sees others as lessers. Because then you can't see faults and weaknesses in your form and you have failed. If you can't look elsewhere to see things in a different angle and learn then you have failed. Perfection requires endless work and maintenance to remain. Having a longer lifespan helps, but if a race with a shorter one manages to reach perfection, then that's commendable.

I almost always pick Dunmer over Altmer. I always played Dunmer in ES titles and from a min/max perspective, the difference has been negligible for a while.

That’s said, my Altmer mag sorc, one of the few I made over the years, just become a kitty cat last night. They are now the master race. Death to the Altmers!!!

Barra! By stars! I knew thou art a true Altmer fan as me. Absolutely approve and I concur fully.
Not often but always almost with some few exceptions, I believe Dunmer may challenge Altmer in some regard but never have such a deep affinity to magic in general ,indeed. Ha! Yea they are both males and females. Incredibly stunning physically those lesser races are probably envious

Right you are. I love my Altmer racials, Spell damage,Magicka,Spell recharge n,etc and Staff XP gain early on to speed things bit up. They are truly unmatched by far in sorcery ,wisdom,beauty,dominance and I could go on and on. Appreciate it , tis not often to see someone with extremely similar views ,actually all of it, I agreed on every point. As for research and education ,thanks to their very long lives they know incredible amount and in wide variety of fields.

P.S Now since Champion point reset ,Altmer's XP gain will be relevant once more. 1% may sound nothing but if you do the math, they will get it fastest which ultimately makes them even more superior in gaining experience which is logical too due their nature of seeking perfection and powerful will. Highborn tis called, Yea. With the respect to other races I cannot imagine myself playing anything but my Sorceresses Altmer anymore. I mean I do log sometimes on my alternative characer,but I feel in love completely with High elves<3

My only Altmer happens to be my second character created during beta, it's also my crafter so he's logged in a lot. He's chosen thematically because he's a magicka sorc. I like having the race suit the class theme or character wise, doesn't need to be meta.

Mostly 1 and 3. Altmer my favorite race since Morrowind.

Also Auridon and Summerset are gorgeous.

Most of my 14 chars altmers in AD alliance.

Cause when I started Templar Healers where God tier snobs. So... what better race then altmer?

After summerset though fell in love with the lore of pursuit of ones passion to the fullest. So 2nd favorite race now.

But...the Noldor literally wiped out the Teleri and part of their motivations to move to Middle-Earth was to set up their own kingdoms.

The Altmer pay homage to the LotR elves a lot more than anyone suspects. Even then, they're still not at Feanor's level.

love my Altmer, he's not a total *** but he can even be friendly to Dunmers sometimes. Love the culture and architecture. Best names too, Vanus Galerion sounds like something out of a 80s anime. I will never make a Bosmer though, I really despise them under all aspects (well, females are sorta sexy) them and make sure my HE's behaviour reflects thast

So, I have two altmers (altmers), one Direnni (altmer), one ayleid (altmer), one half-altmer - half-ayleid (altmer), two maormers (altmers), one chimer (altmer), one quarter-ayleid - quarter-altmer - half-bosmer (bosmer), one quarter-ayleid - 3/4 altmer (altmer), and a cat (khajiit). Why? Well, because those are the best races to associate with. Of course, I prefer ayleids as the most sapient race, but altmers work too (they are too soft with outsiders usually, but having one flaw is OK for any character).

I’ve chosen Bretons as my main since the original TES 3 Morrowind. I prefer magicka-based characters to stamina-based (although I play both), so I tend to make Altmer alts for DPS. I don’t really care too much about the lore, but I find most Altmer characters in ESO to be obnoxious prigs. I do like Queen Ayrenn, though.

The total irony is that the Altmer aren't any more racist than any other race, they're just honest about it. The Nords wiped out the Falmer and invaded Morrowind until the Chimer threw them out again, Tiber Septim was famously racist against Orsimer, an Imga man-supremacist caused a Dragonbreak because he couldn't stand the idea of Akatosh being both a Mer and Man deity, the Bretons and the Redguards have wrecked Orsinium multiple times, the Redguards wiped out the Left-Handed Elves and the Dunmer enslave the Argonians and the Khajiit.

Even the Thalmor came about during the worst time in Altmer history, with Crystal-like-Law destroyed. That's without throwing in Tiber Septim's imperialistic plans culminating in dropping the Numidium on Alinor for the crime of not wanting to bow before a petty human warlord.

In fairness to the Bretons and the Redguards, the sackings of Orsinium have less to do with hatred of the Orcs, and more to do with the geo-political conflicts that are common throughout the Illiac Bay region, particularly between neighboring kingdoms which have often fought over border disputes and contested lands. Most of those things haven't happened in ESO yet, though.

Racism exist aplenty in the world of Elder Scrolls, but some races have a tendency to be more racist in general. Such as altmer and dunmer. It doesn't mean they don't have people who aren't racist, or that the other races doesn't have people who are racist, just that in general they happen to have more.
