Tbh I found altmer more interesting before eso, which shown that all this superiority complex only applies inside their own society and have not much grounding, summerset one just set it in stone. Have only one female rn, changed my other male magdk into the dunmeri when we had free tokens, never looked back.

i have characters of all races - my altmer lady is a pleasant person, not a snooty one, she felt quite disgusted by the negative attitude towards outsiders in Summerset and their snobby way talking down on people. She would be a misfit in the altmer society, but fortunately enough she grew up as a subject of High King Emeric and is loyal to the Daggerfall Covenant.

I wanted to have a Psijic Order mage character for roleplaying purposes and I didn't have a Magicka Templar yet then.

I enjoy playing female characters more than male ones. I do not consider myself the character, rather a companion, a chronicler, or a narrator of the character's stories.

Well I started out in skyrim, chose highelf because it said magic and I wanted to be a wise and powerful scholarly wizard. Learned a little about them in that game then and was still enjoying them so when it came time to play eso I stuck with it. Eso is really what got me to love highelves thought. Its the first game that they have given us a look at the culture and I was hooked. The diving into and exploring the realms or learning, the focus on art, the wisdom and knowledge. Summerset was an amazing chapter for me.

Aesthetic is also a big plus, I love the typical regal elf vibe in most fantasy worlds and it being here is a plus.

The superior ideology I could take or leave. I prefer the highelves that dont "have something prove" and let there work speak for them. I dont mind the bloodline part however. I understand that preserving it is important to them because they want to protect their heritage and stay close to what they came from.

I do think they are the superior race in tes, or at least the good ones are the closet to an ideal civilization.

Only thing I dont like is more to do with the tes games themselves. We typically dont get a good sense of the highelf point of view. Skyrim does a really bad job for example. Its all about how they are wrong for outlawing talos worship with the typical explanation being that they dont want a man to be allowed to achieve godhood. It really doesnt do a good job of pointing out that from highelf perspective talos was actually a pretty bad guy. If the tes games were from a more highelf perspective than imperial he easily could have been a villain.

I play as a healer in AD alliance, can't afford the any race any alliance upgrade so out of the three AD races Altmer is the best fit for healer.

For racial passives...nothing to do with lore or RP at all for me at least.

my main on (xbox) EU is a redguard magplar - because of my african fiance.

On NA I chose Altmer magsorc as main. Simply because of the racial passives. A character that does all the crafting lessons, also should be a good DD so it can solo as many quests or dungeons as possible.
This simplifies to collect all the styles etc. required.

For the FUN I play other toons on NA. Have lately added several cute smol woodelves, stam/mag, different classes.
They hit less hard than my main, but still enough to solo a worldboss like Wily Kee'va as a sorcerer.
I prefer the funny animations and voices over Altmer, they often make me smile or even laugh during gameplay.

I can tell you why I DON'T play altmer-

I like mer but not the whole "alt" part- they're too tall. My characters are all female and either Bosmer, Breton, or Dunmer. I like smol.

I find them hideous as well. Cannot make an attractive-looking altmer to save my life.

So it's entirely appearance-related for me. The Thalmor thing is a turnoff too, but I uh... didn't pay much attention to that in Skyrim. I was too excited to explore the world, so I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the main quest at times.

It's uncomplicated for me - when I first picked up ESO I thought about characters I'd done in other Elder Scrolls games that would translate well into ESO. The classes in ESO are very weird compared to all other Elder Scrolls games - they are forced on you in ways that no other Elder Scrolls game I played ever did (they were fundamentally classless RPGs). The only character that really articulated well onto ESO's weird class system was my Altmer who specialized in lightning spells. So that's who I played.

I have one high elf, its a toon I use to farm crystals and it's a high elf so I never feel bad about killing it off at level 45 and restarting it again.

Played too much Skyrim to want to be a high elf. There is only one good kind of thalmor.

I'm not sure if you've noticed but pretty much everyone is racist af in TES. It's not really a high elf thing

My favorite race in this game series is Breton. Every character in Sykrim has been a Breton except one Khajiit for my one punch build. My first character in this game back in April 2014 has been a Breton Sorcerer. He has become an Altmer because the racial passives of Breton felt so underwhelming and sustain races have become worse with every patch.

But i love playing Khajiit in this game for the first time because they actually look like humanoid cats instead of that horrific thing in Skyrim. Same for Argonians.

Back when Altmers had a bonus to shock damage, they seemed like the best choice for sorcerers, which was my main class. So I made a couple to go with my Breton.

Later, when I made a magden, I had so many Bretons already I made him an Altmer for variety.

I mainly have high elfs, but have other races to fit specific roles needed for end game stuff.

If I can play a class where an altmer excels, I'll choose to play that class. They have been my go to in most ES games because I think they have the best lore compared to other races. They have a reason to their exclusivity and why they do not mix with other races. They are descendants of the Aedra meaning they share the same blood as the gods. Which is why they have innate magicka abilities and longer life spans than other Mer. It kind of does make then superior to other races imo

Some have played to much Skyrim :)
Well racism is an thing, I never play humans in Elder scroll games except once in Daggerfall :)
As in why? Getting one human to level 40 before Skyrim dropped RL why play another.

Altmer are an bis magic race, looks better than Dunmer and is an elf.
Now this one mostly play Khajiit but nothing wrong with high elves if they share

My main is exactly the same. :) Especially the annoying quest givers in Alinor for the dailies were people she never spoke to again after doing 30 jobs for each of them.

I haven't. In three single-player TES games, in ESO, and in the month or so I tried out Blades, Altmer is one of three races I've never rolled.

I started identifying with Elves in my late teens. They seemed holy and I had a girlfriend at the time who love them too. Their values of civility, beauty, and elegance always spoke to me. In ESO terms, I find myself torn between the Altmer and Dunmer. Altmer are really ideal but seem a bit whiny. The Dunmer understand that life isn't easy and using hardship to your advantage. I appreciate the Dunmer being a little stronger willed too.

Plus they look cool, so that helps too.

Honestly I like how they look. I like other races but for some reason nothing really appeals to me. This is a character I'll be looking at for days to come so I might as well like what I'm looking at. The racial bonuses were a factor when I made my first Altmer as to what he'd be, mag vs stam. But my second Altmer I threw those out the window and made her what I wanted, a stamden. Recent changes from U29 made her even more awesome. In either case, I made Altmer for the looks though and I'm quite happy with them.
