That would make sense from a marketing perspective. Have the expansion hit Microsoft and PlayStation marketplaces with the optimized for next-gen tag on it. Hopefully we'll get an answer soon.

Rich said more information later this year. Or did they say something specific in the livestream with Gina and Jessica?

And Rich said it’s running great on XSX and PS5 in compatibility mode, but I’m not sure if you should really count on that statement just yet.

Wait so when you guys are saying we gotta wait till the new DLC do you mean the dungeon DLC or the big one coming in June?

If we gotta wait till June thats a little ridiculous. You could get a lot of new players between now and June, but many will not buy the game if they see it only runs at 30fps, and others who don't really know what fps are will buy it but realize it feels "less smooth" than many other games in their library and are more likely to never truly get into the game.

A lot of the console people who were less in the know about performance are starting to notice all new games they buy run much smoother. That means when they go back to something that is 30 fps its gonna feel awful. Thats just the reality of the new generation of consoles, 30 fps is not going to cut it anymore.

I guess later this year really means that. I hoped for Blackwood to come with the next gen update, but their radio silence slowly kills my expectations on this topic.

Worries me too. But I'm loving 4k 60fps Destiny 2 in the meantime.

They need to answer this. I have cancelled mine and my wife's subscription and will not pre-order, or buy the expansion on release without an update.

Enough is enough we need answers now. We both play on PS5 and simply can't go back to crap resolution and 30 fps after playing other games.

Yes, I would like it, but considering availability of the console, there's no rush for a next gen version.

I'd venture to say going into the 8th month since their announcement is hardly a rush. I'd also venture to say the consoles might be hard for you to get is because a LOT of people are buying them and still more wanting. I.E. quite a few of us have them. But overall yes it would be nice to hear something about their progress on this project

They already stated that it's taking them more time and so a concrete date isn't available. Don't forget that the staff is still working from home. It's not coming with the June chapter which is assured. At best you can hope for Fall 2021 in time for the holiday season but I would say the development team's priority is focused on performance over a client upgrade which few can currently use due to next gen console scarcity.

TLDR: Give them time

The only thing they said during the Blackwood announcement stream was that they're working on the next gen update and it's coming later this year. That was two months ago and we don't have an update since then.

A good thing is the Microsoft acquisition of Zenimax which means we're definitely getting a next gen version.

I would think the Microsoft acquisition would definitely lead to a push on completing the Xbox Series X optimized client. I don't know if it will ultimately change the timetable, but at least it seems like it would become a priority.

Yeah, the Series X will definitely get an optimized version of ESO, that’s pretty much a given. But as we’re talking about an MMORPG here, I think PS5 will get it to (unlike the updates on older Bethesda titles which is Xbox exclusive).

I play on PS5, and the game definitly loads quicker, if nothing else. whilst I would love to see a next-gen upgrade, i'd rather give ZOS the time to ensure it is done properly and doesn't crash every 5 minutes. It will be interesting to see what happens in 12-24months time, to see whether ZOS stop supporting the XBOX One / PS4 altogether.

Used to think the update would be in the next chapter this June but after thinking about I am leaning to the update in September. The chapter is always a big release with lots of new things added and changed. The September release of 2 new dungeons would be a smaller release and more time for ZOS to implement and make fixes to the problems that for sure will pop up with the major update.

I was honestly quite surprised by how much of an improvement they were able to get onto the Xbox One X, hopefully another surprise is in store with Xbox Series X optimization. 60fps would be sooooo nice!
