Why no voice chat on eso PC

ZOS is testing taking away proc sets in Cryodiil because of the resources required to calculate. Why no voice chat? Because ZOS isn't upgrading the PC servers to allow for more resources to be used, they are only upgrading what they need to so that the hardware is supported. Meaning, they are not fixing any resource problems they are spending the least amount possible to retain the most players so that they can retain their current profit margin.

Short answer, money. ZOS has shown an unwillingness to spend money to fix issues, but have shown a great willingness to produce expensive flash campaigns to draw more players, and to sell more content. Why fix things when people will continue to sub as is. Why provide voice chat as well, when people will continue to sub as is and use discord instead.

Personally I'm glad there is no voice chat. I like to listen to the npcs and the general atmosphere, not several people talking to each other on microphones of different quality. If I want voice chat I go on discord.

again in valid comment you can turn it off

or you can download program of choice..

And that adds a LOT of friction that makes most people never bother.

That is why 99.9% of PUG dungeon runs on PC being voiceless, while on console that was likely 50/50. And where friends were made.

But it is pointless. I've said it before. [snip]

Built-in voice chat was great. I truly miss it. The only thing console players have it a lot better than PC players.

I don't think it's possible to make a voice chat for ESO on PC at this late stage. Consoles have built-in chat as part of their native functionality so the console games can easily integrate chat.

Just as Windows and Mac have them.

The exact same way on Xbox and PS you call an API for mic and sound, on Windows/Mac you also call an API for mic and sound.

ZOS just needs to handle the request load, which is a valid argument. But implementation is not the problem, just the will to have it enabled. I think it would be worth it.

Again, I played around 2000 hours on console and now around 1800 on PC.

The experience is just completely different. Discord works well with people you already know. Builtin voice chat works great to make new friends. That is why I miss it so much.

After coming from ps4 it seems really backward that there's no voice chat, honestly voice chat makes the game more than 2x more social, having to type to say push left or pull back in pvp or correcting somone making a mistake in PVE means you have to stop what you're doing to communicate, even thzn they have to take their focus off the game to read it I know there is discord but when playing with randoms it kinda sucks

    Discord exists.

Don't be daft every time I come back to this game it's improved beyond belief, they've made mistakes but I actually think they really do care. I really don't like the negative tone towards the devs, yes some things like the Mag dk not having an actual working heal in pvp with the battle spirit being introduced in the IC patch for like 2 years and the way the totally butchered gap closes the way they worked in 1.5 was perfect, but they aren't incompetent and they do obviously treat this game like their baby.

If that's the case I would support having a setting for native voice chat in this game.

I don't really care when people say that pc players should just get Discord or whatever.. VC in-game is a must have IMO. Would there be people who would be dumb to listen to? Sure, but that could be done in text aswell.

I would vote a huge yes on the idea of voice chat on pc, since there are people who have a really hard time typing and spelling, like my self at times so it would ease up some troubles for alot of players.

I quick fix for thoes who are agains the idea; have it off by default.

Im very mixed about the open mic thing tho, I would tend to thing it should be a push-to-talk thing only

I don't care if its added or not, but I would never use it for any reason at all. I use discord to talk to people I actually want to talk to in this game. I have absolutely no interest in talking to or hearing randoms.

ESO voice chat on Playstation is awful, so - at least in 2 of my guilds - we use PSN chat. It's much, much clearer.

People think it would be on all the time and they would hear the whole world chatting, like on consoles, but that's not the way it would have to work.

Except you can turn it off on consoles? You don't have to have it on unless you want it on and we certainly don't "hear the whole world chatting".

There is not going to be an understanding between people who like playing with other people, and so see voice chat as super convenience with no downsides, and those who dread the mere thought of someone trying to speak to them in their game.

Judging by the responses here, had there been voice chat, most players would have it turned off anyway, which would negate its usefulness as an easy way to communicate.

That's not exactly true. I have it turned off on console, but it's on in groups for trials and dungeons where it's genuinely of value to have.

Fallout76 has voice chat, and I liked it a lot. Some people were upset by stupid talk and background noise, but the ability to just say, "hey how ya doing" is golden.

Just port F76's stuff and we will be good to go.

I have played 8800 hours on console and about 2000 hours on PC.
I moved to Pc due to performance, but having to do dungeons and trails with no mic and people not caring to use a voice program, I had enough and went back to console for the simple reason of ingame voice chat.

I rarely use voice chat but it good to have it when you need it.

Also why are PC people highlighting proximity chat. I don't use it ever. it is for group chat.

Discord and other voice chat programs work perfectly well for things pre-made trials/dungeons and guild chats, but they don't serve the same purpose that I imagine proximity voice chat or VC support for random dungeons would.

Granted, I've never played a game with proximity chat before, but in a perfect world, I'd imagine that it could function similarly to meeting someone in a delve who is trying to do the same quest as you and being able to ask them for help, except instead of text, you could do it vocally (if you wanted). That'd be a lot of fun! It'd be cool to pass by someone and compliment their outfit or something the same way you'd whisper. And as others have said, it'd also be nifty to be able to help people out in dungeons without having to pause and type, which can be difficult for some.

Anyone who didn't want to participate could obviously opt-out and have an icon showing that they couldn't hear or speak (or one or the other) with no loss, but players who are interested in trying to chat would still be able to take advantage of that with other likeminded players. Seems like a win-win to me, as long as there's an easy way to mute specific people and toggle it on/off.

ESO on PC could use some way to integrate into discord chat to make it easier to start speaking with people you just met, but otherwise the current situation is fine as is

Group and raid settings I could see but overall as in normal zone, it's bad enough after the first 5 to 10 minutes in zone text chat I have to turn off due to the toxicity.

Discord has terrible accessibility problems. It's completely inappropriate as a general service and it's one reason many businesses rely on differently sucky rivals that actually meet their accessibility requirements.

An integrated voice chat that is very much optional maybe. However on EU it's not actually going to be that useful because the dungeon finder doesn't group people by language.
