    Crown Crates = Gambling mechanics.

Gambling has no place in a computer game, especially one in which kids well below the age of 18 participate in, en mass.

    [snip]

That said, I tend to buy 1 or 2 15 crate packages per year, using a combination of crowns purchased when on offer, and the crowns awarded via ESO+ Subscription. So in this respect, I am part of the problem. Thankfully I can afford this and have no financial or psychological issues with spending money on one of my hobbies like this.

Others are not so lucky, kids, those in poverty or struggling financially and very much those prone to gambling psychology/addiction. [snip] By all means make money, put things up for purchase, but not via a gambling mechanic.

    [edited for bashing]

I understand where you come from and yes if this was a game for kids under 18 then I would completely agree that gambling has no place in the game.
Thing is this game is for adults it is for 18 and up. So no in that case I have no problems with it.

If parents/ caretakers let kids play this game then that is their responsibility.

"Apex" is already the pinnacle term. "Radiant" makes no sense, it is not an adjective indicating hierarchy.

According to zos it is. Do not question the elevated one

By doing that, you're making someone buy the crates, thus you're supporting them.
    NO.

    This.

Imagine for a second if EVERYONE stopped buying crown crates.

Do you think you would then get your wish of, for example, being able to just purchase a radiant apex mount for like 600 gems rather than actually gambling for them?

But as the above poster said, you're just part of the problem so they wont change it will they? In fact, gambling is an issue in itself so nothing me or anyone on this forum is going to make you stop trying for them.

Nope. I meant what I said. If they let people buy the specific radiant apex they want outright, whether with crowns or gems, it would make them *stop* buying crates. The buyer would have gotten what they wanted, and wouldn't need to buy more. I've linked the threads before in other threads about this, if the people could have bought the mount they wanted, they would NOT have spent several thousand dollars trying to get it. As long as people are willing to spend their money, this isn't going to change.

We all want that Lambo or Bugatti, but they don't make those cars with the intention of selling them to everyone. They only intend to sell them to those who can afford to buy them. Some of us won't be in that group of consumers. The same principle applies here....if EVERY ESO player can get something, then the value of that item drops, and it no longer becomes rare. It is in ZOS's best interest as a for-profit company to keep certain items behind varying levels of exclusivity, otherwise those who are able to meet the requirements for exclusivity won't feel how exclusive it is...and loses that status thus loses it's value.

Have you never played a multiplayer game that has no gambling? Items can be just as rare with RNG.

Also bugattis and lamborghinis arent locked behind a casino, they have a fixed price and anyone with that amount of money can buy them. But guess what? They are still rare.

Your argument has been repeated and debunked on countless occasions.

Uh necropost? lol. Anyways, it would be quite awesome to have the option to buy radiant apex mounts with gems. Of course I think they'd have to cost at least 1k gems. I think they should at least do a test run of it and compare results.

Crates are literally a scam. The shiny garbage ain't worth it. You may get lucky every once in a while but in the end. you are paying them for mostly filler garbage. Shake off the spell and wake up to the reality that for all the money you put in towards that mount, what other joy could you have brought your self that wasn't so fleeting?

I agree that everything in crown crates should be buyable with crowngems. For radiant apex I feel 2.5k crowngems would be realistic. If a person has that many gems, their luck has been really terrible, and it seems a fair price for those who want all three radiant apex's from a specifc crate.

This would also eliminate the gambling aspect of these boxes, since you can get everything for crowngems. Probably even enough to avoid legal issues, as more and more countries are going to make laws for gambling boxes.

This is why I don’t want them to do as the OP suggests.

If they dial back the mechanics, then the boxes might survive. I want them gone. Entirely. So them remaining as they are is probably the best way for that to happen. They are much easier to ban in their most egregious state.

if you do the math....at 10 gems per crate average....
Cause I got 60 crates ang got 600 gems with 1 apex and 1 radiant
at 400 crates to get one radiant ... which is .25%

one Radiant apex is worth 4000 Gems

Assuming fair RNG and 0.25% change for any radiant apex mount.

If you try 60 times you have about 14% change hit a change of 0.25% at least once.
Try 277 times and you have just over 50% change.
For 400 tries you have about 63% change to hit at least once and 37% to not.

The change to not get the 0.25% thing is 99.75% at next try no matter how many times you have tried and failed already!

    Just don't gamble.

(Note: whatever little statistics skills I had at early stone age are now horribly rusty. Check before accepting my numbers.)

Your mileage may vary. Others haven't been so lucky.

This is exactly why players never will be able to get radiant apex mounts another way. This is exactly why ZOS will never consider to make the change you suggest.

Loot boxes should be banned. Crown crates are perfect example of scam. I hope Microsoft changes this and makes everything available at any time.

I wonder if the chance of apex mounts got lowered. Usually the moment a new crown season dropped you'd see them around busy hubs, but the last ones I recall seeing were the ones from the spore crates.

Personally I got 2, but those were from seasons years ago (dwemer and scalecaller).

I have a few friends who love crown crates and their radiant apex mounts and have almost all of them....I'm too poor for that ....but anyways radiant apex mount drop is approximately 300:1 per crate. I get always 90 crates per new event and have only gotten 1 radiant apex.

Ethical people sell things outright for a set price.

The fact that they were ever capable of putting anything exclusively in the crate system should tell you all you need to know about whether or not they'll ever make the top tier stuff available via gems.

My very first mount drop was radiant apex. Took me a year to figure out how rare it is.

Now i know I will never get one again.
    That's it, that's all.

OP I think you need to put your experience in context. Average is a radiant drop every 300 crates or so, but can vary (my last one took 525 - third one in this current crate). So on average takes about 900 crates per season to get all three mounts.

So the fact that you haven't gotten one in 250 crates is not unusual at all. You just need to appreciate the odds involved before buying these things.

I do agree that gems are a total scam though. By the time you get the third radiant mount in any crate, it's like 99% probable that you have every single item from that crate already. So apart from those special gem mounts, you simply have no where to spend your gems (it's literally a fake currency). And you can watch your gem balance balloon to many tens of thousands pretty quickly.

I'm actually thinking I should start buying crown tri pots with my gems - at least they will be of some use then!

I would suggest that they let people buy radiants in crates from 2-3 years ago (these are old blurry textured things that aren't worth gambling on). Instead of wasting a rerun on these old crates, just let people buy them with gems and re-run a newer crate that is worth gambling on.

I love the two I have from old crates - the green dwemer wolf and electric scalecaller horse. None of the newer ones look half as good to me. Well, maybe the blue spore wolf. The only other apex mount I actually want is the black dwemer panther, so also old.

Dunno, anything before dragonscale just looks meh to me. It's like having to play original doom with pixelated sprites after getting used to a gaming world where 4K textures is standard.

I mean some of them look good at a distance, but I would never ride one.
