You won't ban bots, but you'll ban someone for doing Ondil?

A friend of mines (@Fuzzy111) has gone through hell the last few days trying to figure out why he was perma banned, this has to be the first time in 4 years I've heard of him ever being banned on a game, and the initial response was "grand soul gem exploit". After 3 days of being shafted by support about what a grand soul gem exploit was it turns out it's because he did the public dungeon Ondil.
For one if this place is bugged, then why wasn't it shut down or at least a warning given to players before they ran it? How would someone fresh into VR content know this dungeon itself is an exploit? From my understanding he only did it because it had zombies/vampires and he could kill them fast with fire.

I am posting on his behalf since I understand how it feels being able to voice or discuss the misunderstanding as the support is nothing but generic email responses and you'd be lucky to hear from a person two times within 3 days.

The oddest part about this is, hello, Grand Soul Gems are a vendor item and cost 120 gold to buy. Who the hell needs to "exploit" them and I can't imagine why that perma ban worthy at all.

They actually do ban bots, and gold sellers, and other types of dupers/exploiters, and so forth.

I don't know the extent of your friend's exploit, but I do agree that if it was a minor one or if it could be perceived as standard content, and not an exploit, then a warning, and or temporary suspension would be more appropriate.

On the other hand, if you friend racked up 2000 grand soul gems, then I doubt you'll have a successful appeal.

This guy was on reddit looking for sympathy yesterday. He will probably fair no better here.

He was not banned for simply playing in the delve. That would be stupid and not an exploit. Obviously more to it he either not telling you or you are not telling us or else EVERYONE that went in would be banned. Does not add up.

I work in Justice so pardon me if I do not take a person's side based soley on thier word. Because dont you know everyone in jail claims innocence too.

Although I tend to agree with you, be aware that Zenimax is on record admitting many people who did not cheat or exploit were banned in error last wave, so their track record of ensuring only exploiters get banned is not that solid right now.

I am trying to leave a little room for those caught in the crossfire who are potentially undeserving of bans.

They didnt permaban anyone by mistake, only suspended. If he was permabanned he deserved it and they caught him red-handed.

The mobs in ondil drop Grand soul gems like mad. Whats wrong with farming the place for soul gems? It saves time and money when you are in Cyrodiil, reviving people alll the time.

What makes you think he would post that, and have another supporter (whom hasn't even read or heard of this reddit post mind you) claiming his ban was unjust? If he was justly banned I wouldn't be wasting my time, I would say you cheated and got caught too bad. Fact is out of the 100s of people that have been through and possibly farmed Ondil there's no reason he should've stood out enough to be banned. I have not heard of ANYONE being banned for Ondil yet that was the reason given by Zenimax themselves.

The loot tables in Ondil are screwed up so that trash mobs drop boss loot. Therefor they have apparently taken the stance that running Ondil more than once is an exploit, despite the fact that standing in one place and killing the boss over and over again is perfectly allowable.

so another thing that was broken on the PTS back in january and we reported that didnt get fixed and now people getting banned for it because ZOS never got around to fixing it. How is farming trash that drops boss loot against the rules but farming easy as hell boss mobs for the same exact thing any different?

Just when I thought they'd made all the mistakes they could possibly make...

So they don't Block entering the place again, nor put any form of warning to this effect, but if you go in again, you're exploiting and can be banned.......

Meanwhile, the woman I reported - and videod - using Teleport hacks to harvest almost 2 weeks ago, is still doing so today.

Doing something you have No Reason to believe is wrong = ban.
Doing something that is 100% against the terms of the game, being reported Repeatedly, and continuing to do so = no measures taken.

    Win, Zenimax.. Win......

I'm sorry but I'm not gonna go and make up my mind on hear say... I still remember a guy in DAoC who was accussed and banned over radaring in RvR... The whole community was up in arms, me included... cause his friends (who we all knew and played with) stood up for him on the VNboards...

After a week of threats of people leave, threats of legal action, you name it... they posted the proof and we all felt rather silly...

Don't all jump on this bandwagon "Bots are oke but that isn't" ... 100's of players have been through there and not gotten band... You do not know the whole story so refrain from getting your torches and pitchforks
The statement "if you put enough monkeys behind enough typewriters... sooner or later one will produce the works of Shakespeare" has sadly been proven utterly wrong by the internet...

So far it is very clear that Zenimax has NO experience in handling MMO's. The bans that they're dishing out are ridiculous, this just takes the cake. I would understand a slap on the wrist, maybe a two or three day suspension for taking advantage of an exploit, but a PERMANENT ban?! This *** is insane! I'm almost scared to play the game anymore out of fear that I may inadvertently use an exploit and get banned for it.

Using an exploit isn't a one time thing... I'm sure if you'd run across one and then move on there wouldn't be a problem... noticing that something "is" an exploit and repeatedly using it for gain on the other hand is whole different story...

(This is in no way a reference to the OP or the person he's talking about, on that subject we don't have enough info)

Well, like the exploit that let people get a *** ton of mats. Is using it wrong? Of course it is! Should these people be banned from ever playing the game again? No!

There should be temporary bans handed out, no question, but these permabans are ludicrous

Inadvertently using the same exploit over and over and over again... well, then that's just not "Inadvertently" is it ? :)

    This is a joke.

"here, I've installed a vending machine, when you use it sometimes you will get 2 items for the price of one as I don't have a clue what I am doing and have set it up incorrectly, if you use it and this happens I will call the police and have you arrested for theft. Enjoy. Oh by the way, I'm charging you a monthly rental fee for it ."

There might have been more to it than that.

As for being able to buy soul gems, I only wish that the "players" farming the bosses that drop soul gems would go buy them and allow people doing the quests a chance to kill the boss and finish the quest.

For someone who is new to VR content, farming a dungeon because his fire abilities are able to clear vamp trash mobs faster for loot or to level skill lines whichever the reason may be and to find his account permabanned is abysmal.

So players will now have to check on their loot table everytime they kill a mob to make sure they are not getting any item more than they should be or risk exploiting and a permaban? This is absurd.

@Fuzzy111 is a friend and a respected guildy of mine, of 2 years playing with him on different mmos, im pretty dead sure he is not the sort that would exploit in any mmo. You get Grand Soul Gems by killing any vet dungeon bosses and we pretty much clear them easy. Why would he want to farm for Grand soul gems when we can get them everytime we do vet dungeons.

Having your account permabanned for farming trash mobs in dungeon and going through the ordeal of trying to get it back is not something anyone would want to go through. They may have banned a number of people who are the real exploiters but there are others who got their account wrongly banned that are caught in the crossfire, do spare a thought for them who had their play time taken away wrongfully.

So, to dodge a ban... you will ban yourself?

Its not their job to tell you why you were banned, and to be honest i doubt this person was even told what it is claiming. It is in the companies best interest to not let cheaters know what cheat was detected.

That's true, but given that they just admitted to mistakenly banning hundreds of players, it seems like it might be in their best interests to at least let players know what they've been accused of in a general sense.
