Armor Durability ?

So I don't know how many people have noticed, You armor loses durability without Death Without being Hit just simply killing mobs will take your item durability to 0... So If lets say I go farming with a friend who's a tank... I never once get hit or take damage I never once Die... and yet 3k -4k repair bills without fail. I've always believed repair bills might be a little high at some levels but finding this information out makes the repair coast insane... I've tested this for some time with the same result.

Yeah, the durabillity loss seem rather... weird.
Just grinding zombies in Coldharbour, I had to repair from 0 to full twice, during 1½-2 hour grinding.
And I barely got hit at all.

Is the durabillity loss calculated from the amount of XP gained? Instead of the actual damage taken?

<shrug> Its a gold sink. And losing durability from fighting regardless of whether you are getting hit or not makes it kinda fair for the tanks out there.

It may make no sense from a realism point of view, but it makes sense from a game balance point of view.

Isn't this how durability has always been handled in TES games? I know one other MMO where this mechanic is used.

Other then the fact the tanks suffer from the same Loss.... they are just getting it twice as bad.

farming a public dungeon without death for ~1hr equals to about 20-30 wipes in a group dungeon (2-3 hour run) ....

nothing wrong with that is there? IT SEEMS VERY LOGICAL TO ME!

You must go on long hunts and never repair in between them. I did that a few times myself and went wow why this so high then I realized I had not repaired in awhile. I find when I am hunting and my other half is gathering mats and I have a group or a mob on me it still runs to her as she is gathering and flags her.

I can't seem to figure out why repairing cost like 5 times as much as selling the armour.

Perfectly fine with me , it were there in many other games without dying, there are tips that tell you to check your armor in any vendor when you can .
Also items as knifes and so wear when you cut things right :) or for the armor it takes damage and wears out like in D1

There is the issue that in some cases it's cheaper to make new armour than to replace it.

yes its clearly to even out the costs with DPS /healers to tank ratio. honestly i think its a good thing. tho prices are a bit extreme at vet ranks.

    Not arguing with *you*, WT:
Maybe 'All the other MMOs do it...' , but it makes about as much honest sense as just admitting that we should deduct 5% of our assets from our account every 24 hours 'Just to be fair.'

Durability & repairs are hella-horrible in this game. I never repair tho, I always replace.

Truthfully, I know early on in the game it seems like a lot of moula... But I quested my way from v3 to v6 over the weekend, and while I admittedly wear my gear to breaking point and beyond?

I ended up with more gold than i know what to do with.

I don't bother with repairing. Like some other folks, I simply replace as I go. Repair costs are pretty wacked.

I agree with some of you, its all about game balance. I play with tanks, healers, casters, archer, you name it. When ever we go out to do some serious business we always fix all our gear at the same time and we return at the same time. So far as far as I can tell with us all having about the same level and quality of gear our repair bills are pretty close unless someone died then it maybe off 20-100 gold but usually its the same across the bored. Also like someone mentioned before, it has been a few years since I played the other ES games but some builds I had took no damage most of the time but I still had to repair alot of my gear (Will have to look into this a bit).

THIS!!! At low levels, killing mobs was profitable but the other day I went to do the same (cause I need gold for respec) as VR1... I actually lost gold, I didn't die or took a lot of damage.

Morrowind and Oblivion used weapon and armor degradation; Skyrim did not

To be honest, I'm not against weapon & armor degradation in mmorpgs I think it is a must, however how fast they degrade can be game breaking.

Repairing is ridiculously overpriced. In the end I have to craft extra sets or I simply run with all the equipment broken.

I think the devs are missing the point here, repair prices affect the player behaviour, making improving and enchanting a waste of time.

This craze to make almost every useful feature a huge gold sink is ignore the human nature.

The fact that most mobs drop around 3 gold pieces and that long quests give around 300 gold and at level 10 my repair bill is just over 1000 gold I can safely say it's broken from a economic view.

So craft the whites and save the improvement mats.

What?! my vet2 set plate gear is that amount to repair at half damaged, are you using all purple gear on a lvl10? i would say thats unwise.

I agree with this, haven't repaired since level 1 (Vet 1 now) because the price is insanely high (2-3k every 2-3 hours of leveling).

The way armor degrades needs to be addressed and the price it costs to repair too. There's plenty of other gold sinks that are more interesting and rewarding than repairing armor. (Bank slots, inventory slots, mounts, pets etc.)

Repair either needs to be changed or removed completely.

Agree, the cost of repairing armors, particularly the higher levels, is too high.

    Good.

With the bots and hacks running wild your comment is so hilarious I have no words.

Legit players are fined for grinding some gold while dupers and cheaters are millionaires.

"Players are rolling around in legendary gear with billions of gold in the bank thanks to a relatively easy-to-execute duplication bug (a dupe) that can even be done by accident." Paul Tassi, Forbes

    Nail on the head.

The current mechanic might have flown in a single-player game that has no player-run economy. But in an mmorpg, it is a drastic matter. I've only repair once or twice in my lower levels, then did the math... I switched to either crafting new stuff, or hoarding medium gear drops from quests and mobs, and using them once my current stuff is broken.

When I go out to farm, I just get naked. There is no point to even bothering with gear when farming for mob mats, because of the durability cost. Hell, I finished the Molag Bal fight in Cold Harbour at level 48 (like everyone else), but literally every last piece of my gear was broken before even starting. I died the first attempt due to unfamiliarity with mechanics, then stomped him the second time. I was expecting to not even be able to complete the fight, because I was practically naked. But no...

I also don't mind there being armor/weapon degradation. However, the rate of degradation, as well as the cost per point to repair, is seemingly out of whack. I've been able to save loads of money to buy bags space, mounts, etc, but some other folks I know, who are repairing gear to keep the set bonus, aren't even close to being able to get the 17k mount (not that the mount matters, but a frame of reference for money incoming and outgoing).

There is another thread on this that has been going a few days. Some people seem to have a LOT more durability loss since the last patch (i'm not one of them).

It really isn't an argument if goldsinks are good or not, some people are getting abnormal rates of decay.

I play my level 30 for an hour and a half today with 5 deaths and I had ~700 gp repair... which is fine and cheap.

Other people are doing the same thing, (sometimes no dying at all) and end up with 3k repair and 0% on most of their gear.

Just had an L16 character fighting for like 30 minutes, no deaths, and armour repair bill was over 1000 gold.

L16 char with a 1000 gold repair bill? Really?
