For pve I see it on some builds but I don’t understand why as the armor reduction seems like it would be inferior to weapon skill passives. Especially with the buff to pierce armor next patch.

I've been playing around with crystal weapon on my stamsorc werewolf and tbh, its not bad when you are using a bow. It seems like I can shoot the light attack first and then cast crystal weapon and get the bonus damage. But for a melee build, it would definitely be clunky.

Its similar to Elemental Weapon, which also has an instant cast time, but that animation takes forever. Makes it a clunky spammable with the light attack. Wish these both worked more like the stamina spammables like Rapid Strikes

yeah its very obnoxious. it makes you not weave perfectly and often overcast it significantly messing up your dps. its just annoying and needs to be fixed to apply the damage instantly instead of the long animation

It is possible to light attack -> crystal weapon and have the crystal weapon damage be applied to the light attack. It takes practice and it's really easy to mess up. I say this because I've done it, though I can't do it consistently.

The thing that usually catches people about crystal weapon/crushing/imbue/etc is that single-target abilities can't be cast at nothing, but light and heavy attacks can. This means for most abilities you don't find yourself in the situation of being too far away from the target to miss -- if you're too far away, if you're not pointing at a valid target, the button is grayed out and nothing happens. This is not the case with crystal weapon because you can swing light attacks at the air all you want. And I think a lot of the times people think "I'm not getting this weave right" what's actually happen is you're doing the weave just fine, you're just a little too far away from the target, or you're not quite aiming at the target, and you're missing.

(though it is possible to step all over the la+crystal combination. When a fight starts going south I find myself slipping into "I MUST MASH ALL THE BUTTONS" mode and at that point crystal weapon is pretty useless).

Also, there isn't actually an animation delay. The damage crystal weapon does occurs just before the character draws back the weapon, but if you miss or get the timing wrong it throws off your timing even more. It's easier for me to get it right when I'm dual wielding, I find the draw back animation merges more smoothly with the dw light attack. The 2h light attack doesn't really mesh with the quasi conan the barbarian animation crystal weapon and imbue weapon use, which can throw you off even more.
