Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Enough with the PRIME TIME MAINTAINANCE TIMES

Down 2 nights (prime time in AU mind you) in a row is unacceptable. At this point I'm expecting some of my subbed money back, or I won't be renewing it.

Do they not care? All it takes for them is rotate the maintenance times so it's fair for everyone. Shift the period by 6 hours each time you do a maintenance. The solution is so simple.

They aren't going to do it. Simple as that. It would be nice if they had a server over there and a team to control it.. in your time. But I have my doubts they will ever do that.

If they do it, it's because it's needed. It's in the User Agreement.

    Read before you complain.

You aren't getting a refund either, because they already gave you 30 days free.

This isn't prime time. Prime time is when MOST people are on the server. That isn't in the Australian daytime I'm afraid.

Completely agreed. It's one thing when you tell your customers there's a scheduled maintenance on Tues & Fri. Fine, we are warned and can accept it.

Then you throw in a Monday Maintenance as well with absolutely NO lead time or warning, A maintenance mind you, you didn't label it as an emergency maintenance and then put the server down a 2nd day in a row?

Don't you have a bloody Project Manager or schedule plan? I'm trying to be reasonable and not sound completely childish but for god sakes get your schedules worked out ASAP. And anything outside a regular maintenance is an EMERGENCY maintenance. If it's wasn't an emergency, why couldn't you wait till to today to put in the damn patch. At least there would only be 1 down time.

Guys, let's look it this way, the devs are hard at work trying to fix and maintain the game as best as they can be. I am sure that they don't want to have as many downtimes like this but it has to happen not only for TESO but other mmos out there...

    So hang in there :)

This time is pretty bad for me to... many people play from all over the world. It is pretty sucky that they have so much down time and keep taking the servers down the only times I can play (and any one else in a similar time zone). Considering how much we spent on the game and all the game breaking issues, they should compensate us somehow.

So play an Australian MMO then? I'm sorry there are no servers for AU. Better?

You really, really can't be mad at them for doing it in the off hours of their home country and time zone. Seriously now.

I live in Australia. Yes I find the maintenance times annoying but to be straight up, I really don't care if they shutdown the servers during my prime time of play if the end result of the additional shutdowns is a relatively bug-free, bot-free, spam-free game in which I can have fun and play (I also want a rainbow pony). As to the normal shutdowns they have scheduled...I will just be happy to see that schedule achieved in the foreseeable future i.e. the need for emergency hotfixes and repair patches is no longer paramount.

With regards to the times of the server maintenance...there will always be someone who is "unfairly affected" no matter what time it is scheduled for. To paraphrase from ageold mmo wisdom when it comes to scheduled maintenance

"Well at least we will be showering twice a week instead of once a week like in WoW

Another Aussie here too, those maintenances dont worry me so much - at least it makes me get up and move away from my computer for a while - if only to stock up on gaming food

We're customers too, you know. If they can't provide the same level of service, don't sell it in AU. Would you be happy with a product you can only use 2/3 of the time because it's made in America?

One question on this maintenance though- how come twice in 2 nights? Can't they just do it all in one shutdown? That would just make more sense.

Maintenance is probably going to be more common at the start as well, as they smooth out bugs and refine things. Hopefully it settles down to once a week eventually...we'll see.
  • taalkure55344-mmorpg_ESO
silenthunter29, I am trying to be reasonable.

But did you see anything in yesterday's patch that was an emergency item? Cos I didn't. You publish scheduled maintenance schedules so your audience can plan around them.

To just introduce a maintenance without notice, it had better be to fix something really game breaking. Otherwise hold it till regular maintenance. This is standard IT practice and it shows that you respect your customer's time. If I know the server was going to be down on Monday, I would have planned to do something else. I assumed that they were still arranging their maintenance schedules.

Fine, so maintenance is on Monday, and now we find out Tuesday is the regular maintenance schedule. So what the heck was yesterday?

This is just disrespectful to your customers, and I need a place to vent. If you're only interested in catering to the US Prime time market then by all means please ditch this megaserver model and put in a server which does maintenance when I'm at work.

Well, bugs reported even as early as beta may spill over to the launch state and I am afraid there's no sure way to 100% guarantee that all the bugs reported even during early beta phases get resolved in time of launch.

Also, some of these bugs may resurface when large influx of players come in during launch time and this is not isolated to TESO only, other big mmos like wow, swtor have had their fair share of these too :(

PS: I am not writing this to defend TESO but to give another perspective and hope it brings valid points to you

The only way to do maintenance on the North America megaserver and not impact a majority of Australian players would be if they scheduled it at a time when it impacted a majority of North American players.

    That isn't going to happen.

I would understand that if I was using a product that was offered in another country that the product itself would likely be subject to, you know, stuff happening in that country. Its like trying to play on the asian servers of a Korean or Japanese MMO and being angry when their downtime is dead smack in my eastern timezone primetime.

tl;dr it sucks but you can't expect them to take the game down in the middle of their home primetime. I'm sorry.

Huh.. I don't understand the distinction. Why should a customer in AU know or care that the servers the game runs on is located in America? The customer just wants to play the game.

And not that it matters, but I'm in the same boat as you guys even though I live in the same timezone as ZOS, as I'm awake in these hours due to my schedule.

I basically get plowed by the maintenance, too, even though its 8 AM for me. I just understand why they do it is what I'm saying.

They have server load systems that chart out the time the least amount of players use servers; they have set maintenance times accordingly.

It is unfortunate this incapacitates those on an alternate time schedule, but be assured, any other schedule would affect more customers than it does at this juncture.

Well, you now know every Tuesday -- or whatever alien day it is for you down under :) -- Just plan to not play ESO.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with your idea to switch times, but it would be hard for ZOS to have their people come in at all odd times.

Unless your on Night Shift, some 14 year old who got to stay home from school with Mom or live in Australia this maint shouldn't really bother you at all.

But i understand if you do nothing more with your time then play this game 24/7. Sorry?

I do not understand all the hate with maintenance. WoW has 8 hour maintenance windows but TESO has 2-4 hour windows. Take Eve online for example they have a maintenance every single day but only for 1 hour.
  • Garrett_hardy_ESO
I want the game fixed. I don't care how much they have to bring it down. I know it sucks they bring in down in primetime for you. But the servers reside in the US. They can only do maintenance on it and the data center at certain times. So it will just be that way. Would you rather the game stay broken instead?
