ESO for Older Than Average Players

    One of the people I used to play with passed away a few years ago, and he too was a pretty big fisher in ESO. I'd personally just want to see to live up to their promises from Quakecon 2014, where they promised an overhaul to the fishing system to make it not only more rewarding, but also a bit more engaging than what it currently is.

    I just fell back in love with ESO after reading this thread. I've never hit the awesome button so many times in a single thread and if I missed any you all are awesome. Gives me hope to still be in love with my favorite pastime for a few more decades. Started asking myself this year at 43 am I too old to be gaming? The answer to that question is a huge no going by you wonderful people still trucking along well past my age.

    As far as fishing, I recently started playing RDO and I really like the fishing in that as it has a little bit more depth to it. You have to actually reel in the fish and depending on the size it can be a real fight to do that. Lost many a lure trying to pull in a 17pounder lol.

    Thank you all for reminding me age is nothing but a number! Have a blessed day to all and keep on gaming!

    I am going to ask you something that I ask every single person who asks why I still game (at 34).

    Why is it only video games that are subject to this?

    Never have I seen folks have a belief that when you magically hit X adulthood age number, you will now be too old to:
    * Watch television
    * Watch movies
    * Read books
    * Build model airplanes/ships/what-have-you
    * Play sports
    * Insert LITERALLY any other hobby or pastime here

    Seriously. It feels like only video games - as a whole - are subject to this. Yes, some segments of television (aren't you a little old to watch cartoons?), movies (aren't you a little old to watch animated/kids movies), and books (aren't you a little old to be reading comics/graphic novels?) are subject to this, but never has AN ENTIRE GENRE OF ACTIVITY been subject to it like video games traditionally have been.

    I tell everyone I'll stop playing video games when they stop watching TV/movies/reading/etc.

    I will be the little old lady rocking about in a nursing home chair clutching a Playstation 20 controller in my crippled, arthritic hands giving newbies advice over the mic. And I have not one iota of guilt or shame about it.

    Neither should you.

    I agree with everything you have stated! The question popped in my head due to being the only serious gamer in my family, not just immediate family, but extended as well, at least in my age group. Trying to explain to them why I see nothing wrong with spending so much time and resources gaming had started to become tiresome and irritating.

    Until it hit me, just as you portrayed it. My dad still puts model planes together. My mom spends countless hours in her garden and Lord knows how much she spends on plants that die every year. My sister spends hundreds of dollars collecting purses and whatnot lol. So on and so forth. Once I was able to get them to see how one hobby doesn't trump another everything changed.

    My mother even thinks I should now try to get in the industry on a professional level in some capacity after I suggested she turn her green thumb passion into a a nursery or landscaping lol.

    Hey @Sylvermynx , do you happen to know a crazy blonde that drives a red Mustang and who is married to an ESO fanatic?

    Actually I do know a crazy blonde with a red 'stang - but he's not married, just cohabiting.... and his sigother is not into playing games like this. In fact, the only time it came up, he got really annoyed with his SO, and sort of bent out of shape. I don't know if he had some issues with his SO doing his gaming thing or what.

    Lot of seriously awesome posts in this thread! For some reason, I didn't get the notification that you tagged me @rotaugen454 or I'd have replied a lot sooner.

    I do plan to be the gamer granny (my nick on a Nexus addon page for Skyrim) forever. I might live a lot longer than most think - three of my g'parents were over 100 when they died....

    Lol the comments about sexy female characters and male gamers reminded me of a very early ESO experience. This would have been in the first week or two of the game going live on console.
    A group of players was milling around the door to Spindleclutch - I can't remember whether we had no group finder at that point? Certainly there was no text chat, so either you hung around in the hope someone would invite you, or you overcame your shyness and turned on a headset.
    Anyway, a player had removed a female character's clothes and she was cavorting around in the pond with a sizeable group of players watching... lol

    If we weren't on opposite sides of the pond, we could end up in the same OP's home in a couple of decades, and spend happy times gaming together :)

    Well.... once I'm free to choose somewhere besides here to live, I've settled on emigrating to, in order of preference: New Zealand, Australia (I have family and friends in both); Scotland; Nova Scotia; PEI; Ireland; England; Brittany.

    So who knows?

    I’m 71, female, and I’ve been playing computer games since the early 80s when enemies consisted of letters of the alphabet (Rogue was the game) because there were no images on computers yet. The original Zelda still has my heart, as does the original Morrowind.

    I’ve been playing ESO since beta and I do most stuff in the game. I like fishing, but I don’t think I’d rather fish than solo a dungeon. Eventually I’ll complete vMA (I’ve done it on normal). I duo sometimes with my husband (who is 12 years younger), but I also do a lot of gaming alone.

    Maybe I’ll join a seniors guild, if there is one—I’ll bet that together with other oldies, we could kick ass in some of the trials!

    Heh.... we probably could. But I gave up raids years back now. I didn't need a job after I got home from work....

    How strange, I know another lady the same age with a similar ESO name. My wife and I bowled with her and her son. What are the odds?

    Hmm well at 70 + I am an end game player on Xbox and my guild consider me an Elite player. I have been playing since Oblivion I L O VE playing ESO. My guildmates treat me with love and respect though it does get wild at times, I hear the cry "skip take your headphones off" haha xx and I really enjoy playing with them and the challenge of improving my Healer excites me. I play healer all the time and lead Trials each week which I love. The younger players are happy to involve me and we enjoy a lot of banter. It is an awesome relationship I have with my guildmates and a lot of them I have been playing with since the start of ESO. I have even been invited to come to wedding anniversaries, birthdays etc but the cost of travel from Oz is expensive. Anyway if you even need a healer or a hug look me up :) Lady Nan xx

    Well.... in this case, probably not good - since the crazy blonde I know is male, no kids - and his SO is also male. AFAIK they don't bowl. Crazy blonde used to hunt with us; SO is into repairing old books, and buying fine wine (not that easy in UT....)

    My pa used to say the same so I handed him mouse......haven't said after that.
    Lol I feel like a kiddo here at 23 :trollface:

    Just about to hit 47, been gaming since I was a nipper. My first PC was a little Spectrum way back in the day. Have played through PC, Playstation and Xbox before returning to PC a few years ago.

    ESO is perfect for the older gamer, I've been playing since launch and very rarely touch PVP. The PVE elements of the game are plenty for me.

    Fishing , harvesting , crafting are all weirdly relaxing.

    And for Elder Scrolls fans, the lore etc is perfect. ESO gets a lot of grief at times but I think the developers and community for the most part are brilliant...... Have to look into a few Guilds for the older gamer though, that could be fun!!

    Eh well... I'm just wondering if it's even possible to finish vMA at over 60. I've been stuck on the final boss for over 2 years. I do everything in game, some PvP, vet trials, vet dungeons though I'm not so hot at the DLC ones, I don't do them often enough. I just don't seem to be as dexterous... still haven't mastered animation cancelling.
