Scheduled maintenance 2014/04/22 8:00AM For real?

  • Baxter2064
I find it terribly ironic that Zenimax insists on sticking to an official policy of "only twice a week regular maintenance," instead of acknowledging the necessity of daily maintenance/downtime for a new game. Would it really kill the customer service team to actually acknowledge this fact, or does it require a pre-canned automated response and escalation to an 'Elder Mage' first?

as he said ^^ or couldnt of been combined with yesterdays down time?
While we would've liked to have combined the hotfix with today's maintenance, the truth of the matter is it just wasn't ready to go and we wanted to get the new build out for you guys. Tomorrow morning's maintenance likely won't take as long as the maintenance from today, for what that's worth.

Fair enough but Friday will still be downtime too?

are you serious zenimax downtime twice in a row. LOL FAIL

The same one who complains for fixes, cries when they get them , go figure lol

btw looking at your previous posts, if you hate the game so much why do you play?

Thank you, even though I understood this from the beginning i'm glad you are actively engaged in the forums from what I can tell you normally are. I do how ever have a question as to if I can talk to someone directly because I have been unable to log into the game past my character selection screen for 48 hours now and if so it was brief like 15 mins before we had maintenance and then again after maintenance I have talked to support though email but I haven't heard from them all day today since I gave them my dxdiag.

I just started having a similar (perhaps the same issue) where i can log to my character screen, but whenever i try to log onto a character the server times out and i get kicked back to the login screen....i just submitted a customer support ticket for a call back maybe you should as well if you havn't already. the link is

May as well just get used to it because it is obvious that not much of the 200+ million budget was spent on sever technology that would allow for almost no downtime like some MMO's have now days.

Zenimax probably feels "better" when the servers are down because then they don't have to worry about how buggy the game is....so ultimately we can expect them to take the servers offline as often as they possibly can so they can "breathe easy" for a while...

I do wish ZOS would look at PathOfExile for how to do meaningful communication for whats up with the game; GGG does a super job.

I find the forums fascinating. Some posts condemning bugs and game issues that need fixing while others condemn downtime. I wonder if there are people complaining about both at the same time.

Note: This was not directed at the OP or anyone in particular. Just a general observation.

@Walden_Grimtine My grievance with the situation is the low amount and poor quality of fixes when compared with the time spent down then factor in the bugs that were reported back in January betas are not among those fixes.

It's all well and good to fix what you can while you can, but to have maintenance scheduled to occur twice weekly, then push one a day early, and then have it occur anyhow on the scheduled time is becoming a bit much. I really feel for those playing on the EU server since they seem to be hit more often.

My observation is this, People paid good money for a game that should still be in beta, their included game time of 30 days will be closer to 20 days and they have the right to feel annoyed and complain about whatever they wish.

Yeah I have already been talking to support through a ticket but I stopped hearing from them and I wanted to solve this as soon as possible so I was asking if she knew of someone I could talk to directly

    From Sunday night:
At this time, we are doing the scheduled maintenance one day early, and tomorrow's maintenance is taking the place of the regular maintenance on Tuesday.

    From Monday night:
We will be performing a scheduled maintenance on the European and North American megaservers tomorrow, Tuesday April 22nd.
The European megaserver will be brought down at 5:00 AM BST / 6:00 AM CEST.
The North American megaserver will be brought down at 8:00 AM EDT / 1:00 PM BST.
During this maintenance, we will be applying a hotfix, and expect both servers to be back online withing 2 hours.

Keep an eye on this thread for updates.

    Thanks for your patience!

@ZoS_ginaBruno @ZOS_KaiSchober I am having problems reconciling these two posts.

Could they just learn to update their end a bit faster, instead of the 4+ hours of downtime we get atm. per patch.

EVE online has a daily downtime, of about 15-30 mins. Sometimes minor patching comes during this time. The medium patches takes an hour or two, and the big patches (aka expansions in other games.) usually takes a full workday.

ZoS, get in touch with CCP and ask for tips on megaservers, patching and most of all communication.

This would be fine with me! Trion had it to where they would say downtime of 1-2 hours for full
patches (not just hotfix!) and usually only be down forty minutes.

Hotfix. Hotfix means it is applied to hot systems, which means LIVE systems. If they bring down the servers, it is a patch, not a hotfix.

No, thats not what hotfix means. It can be a Hotfix even when an outage is needed.

Also this game is still in early beta, therefor it needs lot of downtimes to fix things.
This is very common for the first month of an open beta. Be thankful that there will be no complete wipe, you get to keep chars :-)

People complain about bugs and ZOS performs rapid maintenance cycles.

So, people complain about rapid maintenance cycles.

People complain about ZOS not communicating what they are doing

So ZOS posts comments about what they are doing, and people complain about the older comments being wrong/superseded by newer updates.

People can't find enough problems to complain about so they make up imaginary policy statements by ZOS and then complain about the imaginary policies.

I really think someone has a vested interest in trying to make ESO look bad...
