Real tanks! Why don't you use Dungeon Finder for pledges?

    You forgot the real reason.

Too much BS for the effort. I was told the last time I pug tanked a dungeon that I was supposed to be chaining the mobs to the DPS. I WAS ON A WARDEN TANK, NOT A DK. Now, I will only tank for guildmates.

Silver Leash is a thing and Frozen Device. Pulls and enemy teleports are not locked to DK only. I hope this helps :)

Group runs ahead: I can handle this.
Group pulls early: I can handle this.
Group blames you for everything: Sometimes it can be my fault and I do improve.
Fake Healers: I can handle this too.
Group doesn't do mechanics (freeing allies from pins etc): I can handle this but this is where we get into danger territory...
Super Low DPS in vet content (esp DLCs): I cannot for the life of me fix this issue. This is the single reason why I hate tanking in ESO and sometime not even want to heal. Terrible DPS can break a lot of veteran DLC dungeons in this game and if the first boss is a struggle I don't have high hopes for the rest of the dungeon.

I didn't answer the poll because I will queue as a tank in dungeon finder but I agree that all the issues are minor annoyances compared to lacking DPS. In fact, I feel that the worst isn't "super low DPS," because if you fail early it allows you to gracefully say "OK one or two more pulls" and then leave while still being nice to the group. Rather, I think the worst experience is two mediocre DPS, where you're in a group of nice appreciative people and you're slowly working through the dungeon, giving everyone pointers, but just can't get past say, the last or second to last boss. The time invested has already been significant, you don't want to kick the DPS because they are nice and you've been working through the dungeon together as a team, but you can tell from experience the group just doesn't have the damage to complete it.

You end up burning all the time you had to play with nothing to show for it, except hopefully two slightly better informed DPS for the next group they run, which maybe will give you some good karma for the RNG gods.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

Whenever I run pledges or daily dungeon, I do it on a pvp char that uses snb and 2h. Makes him kinda like an offtank. I make sure to keep the boss taunted, keep my buffs up and block one shots, but rest of the time I smack enemies on my 2h bar. Allows for super fast queuing time, everyone is happy because I taunt and I don’t die and I’m sure that stuff dies relatively fast, even with low dps.
However I know my limits and wouldn’t tank vet dlc dungeons with that toon.

DLC dungeons (normal or vet) really shouldn’t unlock in the queue until level 50 CP160.

ZoS is on some serious grass thinking a brand new player at level 45 is gonna queue a random, end up in Bloodroot Forge with a bunch of strangers, and have a good time.

Being reminded today of why I stopped running pledges.

None of the items on your list are persistent problems of mine that discourage me from tanking in particular (which I main and is usually what I queue up as).

What I find to be more troublesome in regards to tanking specifically on this game is all the giant pets and other visual obstructions that make it a real annoyance to try and watch for animations so I know when to block. This is especially a problem now since it's supposedly the new "meta" to use that walking alligator who loves to stand right on top of the boss. Drives me nuts. So I would add that to your list.

I tried to do it again to test the stone keeper set. Tried to be friendly and didn't die. They almost blamed me again for the last boss. That's the reason why I'm so alone and never did dungeons for a long long time. I guess friendliness will not cut it anymore.

For the record, I'm not in a guild.

My policy is "you pull you tank" and mostly people stop doing that but other problems are the ones mentioned. Doing pledges with pug, or dungeons in general, is just not fun.

Why isn't there an option of "I have friends"? :(
Tanks are people too y'know! They have friendships! They aren't just a body!

1 If anyone says skip trash, bosses only or some such I immediately drop out with any without any kind of explanation, I do this because they never listen and I can guarantee the run will not be fun. If someone is looking to skip 90% of the dungeon it’s almost certainly because they’re sick to death of running it, this will normally be because their RNG is not cooperating, which is the ground state of affairs. Let’s face it, RNG is simply a matter of making people replay the same content until well after the point where they don’t want to be there.

2 Avoid dungeons like Arx like the plague. I am absolutely sick to death of explaining to yet another group of arrogant newbies that sometimes you cannot stop the boss from going for a wander and that the snake red circle heals the dam thing!. Bosses have mechanics. These mechanics can and will override at taunt. Assuming that we don’t have any dps ice staffs lurking around I will keep the boss taunted, however you as a player have to accept that there are times when the boss will ignore that, often based on your actions! If the boss is preprogrammed to attack whoever is furthest from it and if you’re the one lurking at the back with your stupid bow bow healer then you’re going to catch it in the chops.

If a tank has to throw his arms in the air or shake their head due to some or most of those choices, then clearly the group is not a decent group at all. If you want a tank to develop their confidence in their role, they need good practice and if they''ve got a load of randoms in who are basically causing mayhem and wipes then the tank feels he's failed, and then the 'blame' starts.. the finger pointing.

I've only been tanking since i started ESO, prior to ESO i was ALWAYS a caster type, but i've grown to like tanking ALOT, so just think on when rushing ahead, your tank may be getting to know the mechanics more and with so many varied bosses, its nice to be polite enough to give the tank and healer a chance to do their role rather than running ahead and wondering why you died because you ignored the fact you do have a tank and healer in the group.

My main concern is fake tank in vet pledge... and even worst with dlc one!

the whole random vet queue system doesnt take into accounts average dps dps do

when you end up with 2 dps doing 20k in vet bc2 you cry as a tank

    None of the above.

Real tanks are in short supply and high demand, enough to run mostly in pre-made groups with friends.

When I decide to run a vet pledge with any of my tanks, I have plenty of guild friends who will gladly join the run at the drop of a (c)hat. Occasionally, at weird hours, we queue for a random member or two, but for the most part I'm running with a full group of friends who can focus on having fun with neither drama nor grief.

I have had some bad, low-dps runs even with guild friends, sure, but then we can laugh it off and have fun trying. I have no qualms over spending a lot of time completing a normal DLC dungeon with people who communicate, stay in good spirits and enjoy the challenge.

It is really frustrating to play veteran dlc dungeons when all the group can do is 10 to 20 or 30k, even when you're using Alkosh, Power Assault, giving major breach, major fracture, using symphony and infused crusher enchant on staff lol

I pug a lot and can tolerate most things but it's the low dps that usually gets to me. As a working adult, I have limited time to play eso. I don't want to spend 40 mins in normal wayrest watching weak DPS mostly light attacking on improper gear and skills.

Worst is when you're also pugging with an angsty teenager dps. Some of these guys can't handle the slightest hint of criticism and will throw insults at you via whisper after the run and even after you've ported out of the dungeon! I usually recognise these types cos these insults sound too much like the ones angry parents heckle at their rebellious child at, and just put them on ignore cos I can't be bothered to report them.

I pug a bit on my tank if nothing is happening and I'm bored sometimes the runs are really good others are not remember tanking a dark shade 2 and we were in there for over an hour. Apart from that I usually run with friends the main issue with gf and sometimes avoid it is low damage.

Because a lot of people don't know mechanics and don't listen to the mechanics, but instead think they can just burn the boss then go into a massive rant when they can't and most of the time, I cannot be bothered listening to that.

Dungeon finder is overflowing with idiots. Overflowing. You can be the best tank in the world but you cant save some runs when the rest of the group has the combined skill of a cardboard box. You find yourself walking from corpse to corpse rezzing people only for them to immediately die again, all while under fire with nobody killing anything and nobody healing you. It's not fun. This is why we dont use dungeon finder.

Considering I duo-ed nBRP with a level 20 tank one day on a toon of mine with pretty bad DPS(and I do mean bad...I averaged around 25k that run) I don't think normal difficulty is any type of problem...vet is something else

So, I decided to use GF for my tank. vCOH2...I knew it was going to be a slog when I saw one of the DPS using S&B on their back bar. Perhaps it was a PvP build? Anyway, I started tanking 4 ghosts...which turned to 6...then finally 10 before the boss was burned. Fun stuff. :D

Hey now...I have a Tank that runs lightning staff front bar and S&B back bar and is capable of putting out 25k DPS....too bad his HP is only 27k and he is limited to non-DLC dungeons and some of the easier vDLC dungeons. Anyway, the point is that you can put out ok damage(for a pug) running S&B, even with more of tank focused build....but if you ended up with 10 ghosts he probably wasnt even putting out 10k
