Well, I don't want to dissapoint you guys, but Matt Firor and Rich Lambert said last week on Twitch that there are no more charakter slots coming. It would be to much data work for them to handle if I remember right.

Frankly I think that’s complete nonsense re data/storage. The idea that Zos cannot or will not expand their capacity to meet player needs is actually insulting, particularly for paying customers. Its just an excuse and a really really bad one.
Were talking about 1s and 0s data stored on a server here.
If space is REALLY that much of an issue, then put all the accounts that have never logged in for over a year into “cold storage” or something.
And as a side, if there is no new race or class coming even next year, that’s actually going to be quite a few years without such additional content. Again, not really acceptable.
This game has been going for years at this point and character slots are getting tight. Can we please get a big slot increase? Even an additional 2 would go a long ways. It doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon either.

What does the nature of bits (1s and 0s) have to do with retrieval and write performance? I don't understand why people love mentioning 1s and 0s as an argument. Do you consider it persuasive if I make an argument about pickup up a car that is just a bunch of atoms?
Maybe if you compared to other systems that handle that load fine, we could have a decent discussion. We already know that they already introduced cold storage for characters like a year ago. I personally have no idea if they believe adding more slots will lead to performance issues right now.
It is common in conversations like this for people to say 'why 18? why not 24?' Thing is, when we are at 24, there will still be people who say, 'why just 24? why not 32?' It just keeps going like that. I would like more slots, but I know I am in a small minority. The number of people who want good performance when selecting a characters is a lot more, approximately 100% of players. Can the system handle 32? Probably, but they shouldn't be trying to reach capacity. And while only a small minority of us will buy the 19th character slot, adding a new class will lead to an immediate spike in character count.

@DaveMoeDee The quote below, makes a complete and utter nonsense of any and all arguments that its somehow space or retrieval/write performance preventing ESO from having more than 18 character slots in total.
As for your point about character slots, "why not 24, why not 32 etc", and? The point is at this stage of the game, with players here for over 5 years, we need more than 18. Fact. Again, see the numbers of character slots other mmos have. But quite apart from this, see my earlier comments. Its 36, that is the golden MINIMUM number, because this allows one of every class, both mag and stam for dps, + healer, + tank + pvp characters.juttaa77b16_ESO wrote: »As of patch 8.1.5, a player may create a maximum number of fifty characters per account on any realm in WoW.

Characters require database storage, so it is not just a simple matter of buying them in the Crown Store.
Get a second account? I know there are downsides to this, but if you are playing so much that you can handle more than 18 character slots, maybe it's time.

Thats not how Database servers work.
Servers use special HDDs that are made for 24/7 work and are more expansive than the ones you would use at home for your movie collection. For every TB of space you get you need multiplies of that for backup storage and the local raid system. On top of that you also need additional power on the server itself because bigger databases are slower to query. This can easily become very expansive.
You also have to keep in mind that every character stores alot of data and they have to think about if its worth to do the investment vs the amount of players that would actually buy the slots.

You do realize this isn't Wow, right? This also isn't SWTOR. This is ESO, in case you are on the wrong site. It doesn't matter what is performant on WoW. That isn't necessarily performant here. They have to set character limits based on what will work in ESO right now, not based on theoretical limits. I've never played those games so I can't say anything about them.
Personally, I want more slots.

Some here think that ESO can't have something merely because another MMO has it. That is a foolish idea.
I do not need more characters now and doubt I will anytime soon, but it should be doable given where modern database technology is. Their argument against it is quite weak.

We need 6 slots for each class. Each class plays differently and uses didn’t skills. I should not have to have a second account to maximize all the possible play combination.
1 Tank
1 Healer
1 Mag DPS
1 Stam DPS
1 Stam PVP
1 Mag PVP
In short, we need 36 slots.
Be safe and have fun

Its a "want" that multiple other MMOs seem to accommodate with consummate ease. Funny that.
