How many characters do you have?

I was wondering how many characters the player base tend to have? Also, why do you have this many characters and how do you use them?

For instance I know some create new characters purely as inventory storage, others for role playing reasons, others because they enjoy levelling, others because they want each class/stam/mag etc...

12/12, here. 6 EP (1 of each class), then 3 AD and 3 DC.
All are lvl 50/cp810, except 2. 1 lvl 4 AD and 1 lvl 4 DC. I'll get to them, eventually...

I'll go first!

I currently have 14 characters and counting! All CP810, the most recent of which I got to level 50 earlier this week. A mix of races, classes and mag/stam. Why? I love the levelling process, theory crafting a new build, deciding on a theme, the race, the look, the role... its great fun.

I like to make off meta builds that still work, often created around a core theme that feeds into all the above. So for instance my Nord Warden Frost tank. Or my Argonian DK poison dps. And many more weird and wonderful creations!

I also like to have variety in what I play and how I play.

6 magicka as I prefer staff playstyle, and 3 stam to have some variety and test other classes.
Dropped a 4th stam already, not my playstyle, and wrong alliance since faction lock.

Use them in PVE mainly to have crafters for daily writs, delves, bosses, and 6 of them in cyrodiil for fun and transmutation crystals.

Was never a big fan of PVP, but meanwhile enjoy cyro now and then, so will turn one into a PVP char lateron (first want to reach more skillpoints to be able to do more crafting writs).

I use different classes, but similar setups, so they are not 100% optimized for their class. I tried it different before, but got confused when every toon has different skills on the buttons. Now every magicka toon (sorc, warden, templar) has the same skill on the same button (more or less), making my fights more fluid.

I have 8 characters... But honestly, I mostly play my main (70% of my play time). Others are auxillary crafters (crafting quest for money and mats... to sell for more money), "RP characters" and rerolls in other roles.
I have 8, because with 1 free slot, I can still "play with the character creator". So I might add a new character if we receive an other free slot. But It will just be one more barely played character for rp and crafting...

I have 9 or 10

I have 9, and 8 of them were leveled to CP and used at CP810 builds for some time. But overall, I grew bored with all of them with exception of 2 mains, on whom I play 70-80% of the time. Even if other of my characters are in meta now and mains are not, I still will play mains with exceptions of some trials where secondary toons are notably better and I use exclusively for group sake, not because I like to play them.

(Although, there are 2 others I made on EU for the 'Summerset Pathfinder' community event which I mess around with now and then so I guess it's really 14 )

I mostly play my main high elf mag sorc and redgaurd stam templar most but sometimes pick a random one among them to play besides all of them are fully maxed and geared.

I currently have 13 characters because I like to build new characters once in a while ... mainly for story, adventure and roleplaying reasons.
I also have deleted several characters because they ultimately didn't fit the concept I originally had in mind for them.

While I use my main for pretty much everything (solo PVE, venture into PVP areas once in a while and craft, craft, craft), the others are specific chars I designed with specific (RPing) roles/backgrounds in mind. Thus none of the others has fully developed riding skills, or does anything related to crafting beyond finding and refining mats. But it is very important that their mounts and pets fit both their character and looks .

36 currently, across two accounts and in the case of one account on both regional servers.

I enjoy the leveling/questing/story aspects of the game and have no interest in what is commonly called "endgame". For me the most enjoyable part of any MMORPG is the first two-thirds of the leveling process, after that it all becomes a chore.

All my characters are different in various ways. As a non-competitive solo PvE player I am not limited to things like "magicka or stamina" and have no regard to, or knowledge of, "meta" builds (or anyone else's builds generally). I might have a couple of characters running the same balance of attributes but one might be focused on class skills while the other might be focused on guild or weapon skills, for example. The beauty of the game is that there are so many different ways in which a character can be developed, and the world has now become so large and accessible that even if I do run a character fully through a particular zone's quests the likelihood is that it's been a year or two since I last did that so it feels fresh once again. Moreover, having played without a break since PC launch there are still a few zones and DLCs I haven't really started let alone completed.

The other main reason I play multiple characters is because it prevents burn-out, and in those games where I have concentrated on a single character I have invariably found that logging in every day and pursuing the same character doing more of the same thing each time very quickly feels more like a job than a hobby.

My playstyle isn't everyone's, but it's far from being unique.

I have one main and one levelling (but I usually stop playing them at lvl 50). And I create some just for the joy of creating, but not intensive playing.

I currently have 8 characters, though only three of them see regular action (and thus are at level 50), with a couple of others I use mainly during double xp events.
My plan is to have 10, one for each race (I'm missing a Breton and an Orc, at the moment)

I have 7, and it's because I like coming up with different character concepts and having options for what I play and how I do it when I log in. I try to make sure they're all doing different things (e.g. if one is completing a zone all the others will be elsewhere...but not all Elsweyr) and they all play differently too. (It also means I can do things like leave 1 camping a boss in the Imperial City for easy tickets and still be able to play other areas of the game.)

Stamblade (My first ever character who is now a master crafter & werewolf PVE and PVP);
Magblade (Made specifically for trials as I was very interested on the class when it was good);
Stamdk (A future tanky argonian for BG's);
Magplar (A wonderer still on his leveling process).


I plan to have more characters in the future, but I feel like I need to find a reason for each to exist in order to be used and played on properly.. if I don't plan those objetives in my mind, every character will instantly become a mule to save up inventory space.

7 that I roleplay as the same elf. Same race, looks, name (just minor variations required by game), mount, pet, outfit. 4 mages and 3 archers. She treats changing from one class/spec to another as casually as she changes her hairstyles. Just a matter of deciding how she wants to go adventure that day.

Then I have a tank. He is a different character since being a tank was just a 'bridge too far' for my little elf. His purpose is to help the little elf learn by observation what it is like to be a tank so she can better support tanks when she is a healer or dps.

9 on PC EU, 3 on PC NA, and I also have a second account with one character on EU.
On my main PC EU, I have one or 2 of every class/attribute combo I liked, on PC NA, I have one of my favourite classes each (StamBlade and StamWarden) and a crafter/tank.

Technically I have some more experimental characters and chars to save names, but I don't count them since they'll get deleted at some point.

6, 1 of each class, all of them Magicka based except the Stam DK.

I have 17 characters. 16 of them are Max Level battle ready characters. The last one is just a mule for my excess junk.
