So ZOS any word on if original hairstyles and adorments will become gender neutral?

If I'm not wrong, that's Harald I, or "Fairhair", as they also called him?

Can I just point out, ZoS have alot bigger issues at the moment with the servers not working (many many issues). End game ESO (PvE and PvP) is dying hard due to the issues, so please remember that this SHOULD be very low on their priority list.

Juli I think most would agree that yes there are bigger issues. No ones arguing that but the topic of the post isn’t about those issues (there’s plenty of those) it’s about cosmetics being gender neutral so I think it’s best to keep comments about that.

Maybe the model for male heads is different enough from female heads that some of the hairstyles would clip or float and look weird and it would require effort to replicate the same hairstyle for the other model.

Most likely it would also be effort they couldn't sell, because there would be outrage at selling the male or female version of the same hairstyle that already exists.

    That's my theory anyway.

It's not a physical item, so they can just make it use male/female model after adding such, like some costumes do. No need to sell two separate items

As OP wrote about adornments too: I don't think there are always technical issues. Compare "Seastone browplate" and "Dwemer crown". Almost the same, but one is genderlocked, the other isn't.

If they've already agreed to release all future content as gender neutral, I see no reason to not update all prior content to also be gender neutral. To not is just being plain lazy.

Not necessarily content, but hairstyles specifically. From another thread:
    Hey folks,

We wanted to reach out and let you know that we appreciate the feedback provided in this thread and it has been passed along to the proper team.

As heaven13 brought up, only the hairstyles we originally launched with are like this, and all later hairstyles are gender-neutral. Future hairstyles will continue to be gender-neutral as well.

I'm just waiting for them to actually release those other styles. We've seen things like Rolis/Velsa's hair or Unruly Bangs (Adonatus Varian/Svana) on both genders, and things like Short Mussed Wave have been seen on PTS for both (I don't know if I've seen a female NPC wearing that, but Adjunct Daro/Nicolas are)

Ugh, I really want them to finally release Short Mussed Wave...

I think the diadem from last month being female-only was just to balance out the beard as a male-only thing, and that misfired. As to whether they'll go back an redo the old hairstyles...dunno. It'd be a hard sell to get people to re-pay for the hairstyles pack when so many people already have it, so it may not be worth the effort to remodel so many styles. And based on the amount of effort they're currently putting into hairstlyes... that doesn't look good. We've gotten what, one new style in over a year? They've even stopped rereleasing the styles that they have in game already (the last one we got in the store was Adorable Assassin last July)

There are so many long hair styles I'd love to use on my male toons that are still gender restricted. I made a post about this about a month ago and it got positive reactions and got a ZOS response that it would be passed on to the relevant team. So I'm wondering if there's any update on that if anyone from ZOS would care to respond? I know us players don't have an answer but I really would love to be able to use more hairstyles on my toons.

Please don’t invite them in with words like gender neutral. It’s like beetle juice never say them or risk inviting in the lil demons.

I think Zos commented on this recently as much as they plan to comment on it. They noted original items do have some that are gender locked but most of what they have added via the crown store is not gender locked.

Edit: The fact that they chose not to say they were considering making changes to the original items suggests they are not concerned with it.

Wouldn't be any worse than false lashes and pompous wedding dresses. Items that big hairy Nords can already wear now, if they want. It's improbable that most of the players would use them for male characters anyway.

I don't see a reason though why these are women only:

I've always wanted to make a beautiful long haired high elven male, but the base hairs are all booty.

Curiously, male Khajiit have good looking long hairs.

If ppl are uncomfortable with long haired men what are they even doing in a high fantasy game.

Precisely where there should actually be more gender specificity rather than less in hairs/clothing/jewelry etc. Keep at least some normalcy and not let people take the mickey.

My character consider himself a pet and his pet is the actual character. It was my pet who killed Molag Bal and I want him to be able to have any hairstyle he wants.

Of course Im joking so I belive some parts of the game are gender locked becouse of technical reasons and if you feel bad about it imagine that some people plays breton or argorian females which are ugly as hell and they have to live with that too.

Anyway I don't want this game to lose it's visual spirit and become freak show with all that wierd parts that doesn't fit on people walking around. It's enough that there's a ton of bizarre pets, mounts and jester personality at top of it...

I even fail to understand why you'd complain about other people's (or in this case: other people's character's) hairstyles. You don't want long hair - fine, no one forces you.

Ah yes. My mistake. Why would people be allowed to have fun in a video game? No fun allowed here!!

Some people seem to think just because they can't have any fun because of their self-imposed restrictions ("OMG! That's women's stuff!"), others aren't allowed to have fun either ;)

I mostly want long flowing hair like my real hair just kind of down not styled. There are some I use on my toons but we're kind of limited and they're not as long as some female styles I've seen.

Also on the subject of the servers I mean...would it really be that hard to change them from gender locked? I mean out of all the changes they could do I'm not expert but that one seems like one of the easiest and we all know they're going to keep adding new content and they're planning on releasing new items. How hard would it really be to change it so both genders can have same hair and adornments?

This may not be as easy as flipping a switch.

I know in most games (like the Sims, or even other TES games) the female/male models do have different head shapes, so you would need to change the hair mesh so it's not clipping/floating. It's the same reason that they don't have Argonian/Khajiit morphs for everything - you'd have to do a remodel to get them to fit. I remember having a hard time in Oblivion trying to find a good hair for my Orc since they had different head shapes and couldn't wear normal styles...and all of the custom styles were built for humans/elves.

Now some might work well enough that no remodel is needed, but there's no guarantee they all would.

The newer hair styles are actually several models: a female and a male mesh for humans, and then two additional each if they're adding equivalent styles for the beast races. That means if the model doesn't already exist (which it doesn't for most of the basegame styles), it'll be a bit of a project to remake all of them. It's the same idea as the costumes in game having different shapes whether a male or female wear them. Look at a character from the side and notice the model is shaped differently:
    Noble-Dress-Female-Close-Side_thumb.jpgNoble-Dress-Male-Close-Side_thumb.jpg

Some parts of the model (like earrings) are attached to certain bones, but you can't easily tell a clothing item to follow body contours without remodelling it.

The adornments are also similar in that they'd need to place them differently so the bones in the eyebrows/ears could have the default location. They're much smaller, so just flipping it over and then checking the location would be all you need to do, but it isn't just flipping a switch and done.

Gender neutral would be great. Hair "gender" makes zero sense. How about while we're at it, make everything race neutral too. I would like to use Argonian stuff on my Vamp Sorcerer. Horns and all. Khajiit items galore. There are a LOT of locked collectibles like hair, adornments, etc that would be really awesome to unlock game-wide to be available on all toons. I have so many collectibles I can't use (many that I have paid IRL money for) because they are locked behind that kind of thing. What gives ZoS? Seems a bit shortsided and something to fix in the near future after 6 years tbh.
