Once again, interesting set, ruined before it comes out - I really dislike this change
Any other set that I would combine this set with has a 5-6 second duration
A 10 second duration for a charge set in pvp is imo pointless

You were looking forward to trying to out-heal a 30k bleed over 5 seconds (Unleashed + Maelstrom 2h) just from getting hit with a gap closer?

It looks like it'll be a good pressure set. I don't think gap closers needed more burst.

It still deals nearly 2k / second from its base tooltip alone. That's still very high, especially with an easy proc condition and it can be applied to multiple targets. This change brings it in line with other proc sets. It would've been far too overwhelming for most everyone but a player with a full pocket healer on them, especially if comboed with Merciless Charge.

This is one of those cases I think where ZOS hit the nail on the head, we had a set that clearly would be too strong, everyone said it would be too strong, and ZOS made an adjustment that makes it still usable without being too much.

The cooldown is still way to short, should be 15-20 seconds as a minimum.

Gap closers do need more burst. I think the change to the set was good, but I disagree with your reasoning.

How is it pointless? Venomous Smite is king in PvP atm. Unleashed terror got that potential to do 50% more dps than Venomous Smite. This set can be extremely strong with Stampede.

Proc sets are still to strong no proc set should deal more than abilities do. They even do more dmg the ults

If only zos would learn from this and do appropriate adjustments rather than shotgun blast their foot off trying to tweak it like they did with the torug buff/nerf like hey this is grea.... and gutted....

Good change. I wanted to use a nice dot set with my VMA 2H build, Venomous Smite had a small CD and I kinda avoid sets that have downtime like that, even if it wasn't very much.

This fulfills what I was looking for and it beautifully comes as physical bleed damage while proccing PER target. It could honestly be nerfed a lot more, I'm glad it's still useable, but I bet it will be nerfed again.

was ~4k dps/5s now ~2.4k dps/10s. ZOS needs to read the definition of DPS because this will be cleansed pretty easy at 10s.
This recent update has made me sad. Sad for the game. Sad for the community. Sad to pay whatever it is now. I want the previous eso back.

I think its still a bit too much damage for an easy proc; but more realistic. Still a stronger DOT than many DOT abilities on offensive stat stacked users.

Yeah.. and guess what, this is because of their crappy dot standard that was buffed by WAY too much in Scalebreaker to 2.5x a spammable to completely weak AF at 1.5x a spammable in Dragonhold.

It's a clear snowball effect to me. The standard change inevitably made pvp too easy to survive in, since everyone removed dots from their builds in favour of burst damage. This made ZOS nerf healing from 50% to 40%.

Now we have proc sets that follow or go above this 1.5x standard, but they're buffed by +25% from Malacath's Band while completely simutaniously ignoring crit resist since they don't crit at all in the first place, no penalties.

I really feel like the proc sets wouldn't be so shocking to people if regular skills and healing were brought back to Elsweyr levels, before they were messed with in Scalebreaker-Dragonhold.

Yeah honestly, not very clear... It says "damage reduced to keep dps the same"

Those are 2 conflicting statements because the duration was increased to 10s from 5s.

Damage would need to be doubled to "keep dps the same".

If they wanted to keep the total damage the same, dps would be halved.

I'll go on PTS and figure it out. Edit in bound.

@MashmalloMan Not meaning to steal your thunder just thought I'd add in what it was prior to todays change and what it is now will all the tooltips.

    jkwav0l41vc7.png

I was kind of looking forward to them making this set up to 10 seconds with maybe a damage increase to keep the total DPS the same since decrease seemed like the wrong word. From what I can tell they just increased the total duration without changing the damage numbers. (SS taken on a no-CP no invested skillpoints character.)

Ah well still useful for my friend who loves teleport strike and all its buggy mess.

again if you must reduce the damage but keep the duration

now you have a complete missmatch on the duration with other sets people are most likely going to use and way too long of one for a charge ability

besides this just once again shows that zos as no plan no clue no template

how can it happen that a new set is "too powerful" and needs to be nerfed so drastically when they have all their amazing power balancing templates and calculations huh? yea it can't and they do not have anything they just throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks thats their combat team

This is really what is making me SO angry about zos - they basically nerfed it 50%

they always do that show a promising set, people get excited and then nerf it into the ground (im talking about relatives not absoultes)

HOW CAN IT BE if you say you have power budgets that you need to nerf sets 50% - they have NO plan and this is once again a clear example of that and this is why nothing will ever improve with the combat and the balancing

and since they have no plan no template no process all they can do to balance things is making everything exactly the same killing of any identity in the process

people always shun wow here (eee these dirty wow player) but you know what? WOW is doing a 5000% better job at class identity and balancing...

one hand at zos doesnt even understand what the other one is doing

the patch note says Reduced the damage to ensure the DPS remains relatively the same, while lowering the burst damage it provided.

    pffffffffffffffffffff

Chill. Set isn't dead, not yet anyway, thats what the PTS is for. It would of been broken over powered if it was left unchanged, you may not agree, but the previous iteration was way too bursty.

The standards they use almost ALWAYS seem to revolve around 1 thing. This is a pretty big problem, which is why it may take them several try's.

They rely on one major factor first:

    Total DPS:

Their version of Total DPS is a combination of (duration/cool down) * total damage = DPS. This equation is very useful for longer fights that you typically find in PVE. You can easily see they used this formula when you consider all of the monster sets from the previous patch, you'll find they're all around the same total dps, if they fit very similar basic functions.

Sets usually do less total dps if they're aoe. More if they're single target. Even more if the proc condition, telegraph or range is a major factor.

This is where standards will never fully provide "absolute" balance, but only provide a foundation, they need to address things accordingly. This is why I give them a free pass on some things like this set, but they've been at it long enough that they should of seen the issue with this set to begin with..

The problem with their reliance on this formuala is in pvp.. the equation for (duration/cool down) * total damage is not very useful when burst is king. Fights don't last 20+ seconds. They're usually small windows of opportunity to kill your opponent, maybe 5 seconds.. which is exaclty why this set needed to change.

So on a spreadsheet, when they designed the set, they probably found it averaged 2k dps which is easy to say when the proc condition is absolute. Thats pretty fair, but it was actually 4k dps within that 5s window which is WAY too much from 1 set, especially since it can be added per target.

Monster sets on average do around 1350-1800 from what I've found (Kragh/Velidreth/Stormfist/Selene(harder proc, unless using flurry/jabs)). So 2k within a 5 piece seems to line up. I'm sure you can look at other sets this patch for a similar result.

This actually illustrates the issue with Venomous Smite. On paper, it does about 1500 dps. It's under the estimated standard of around 2k single target, because it's aoe, it's less.. Sounds fair... except it's actually 2241 dps within a 10s window, aoe and only 5s downtime. So here, their equation said. YEP checks out, but in pvp, this thing does more single target dps than a typical single target dot set, except it does it in aoe. The downtime means absolutely nothing, but ZOS used it to justify the higher dps.

So total dps remains at 2k for this set, but burst window changed from 4k dps to 2k dps. 100% fine.

my anger is 20% about the particular set and 80% about zos who simply show again and again that they dont understand their own game and dont have plan and this is why nothing will ever improve and this is what is so frustrating and its not only frustrating me - look at recent videos from the biggest content providers - if they even still play
