Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Take down the server.

Koltiros1005b14a_ESO
As much as I love playing, playing with all these bugs that are just punishing the player base is NOT worth it. Take down the server and have development go through the really game breaking bugs then work over to the side quests and the minor one's if it means a day offline, so be it, with the amount of people who have dropped sub because of the bugs, any who leave because they can't play for a day aren't even worth it. So please just take down the server and patch, patch, patch! I'm sure some will disagree with this thread and that's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion just as those who pay should be entitled to play. But in my opinion these servers need to be patched, now. Forget Craglorn, for now and focus on what content you DO have.

You do realize they have to have fixes for bugs, and other such changes for a patch to be effective right? They don't just hit a button labeled "Patch"...
  • Koltiros1005b14a_ESO
I don't care what they do at this point, so as long as they do something, as I sure most of the player base would agree, this is not a time for "lulz comments" I sincerely want this game to succeed, and it can only do so with action.

They are doing things... Fixing bugs, especially in MMOs take time, you can't simply take the game down for a day and magically fix them... This is the main reason we're still seeing bugs from beta.

  • Koltiros1005b14a_ESO
No, you cannot but I do think taking down the server and reading through the list of bug reports that helpful people like me have submitted every time we've encountered one, would allow them to focus and destroy them. Taking down the server is the only logical choice here, the game needs maintenance, not automated responses. I've been a part of many MMO launches from WoW to Guild Wars classic and 2, and none have had the scale of dissarray I've seen here, now unlike most I don't blame Zenimax for this, I blames the games coding which is no doubt massive, MMO's have never been done on this scale before, in fact this game is a revolutionary development like when the AVATAR movie came out.

Taking the server down doesn't make things get patched any quicker. The bugs they are aware of are being worked on right now while the server is up. They don't need to "work on the server" to fix the bug. They can work on things offline on their end and then when it is time to patch, they drop the server and release the patch so you are forced to log back in and update your client. The speed at which they resolve these issues has nothing to do with the server being up and down, and I am sure we will see the vast majority of issues being patched this week during scheduled maintenance since they have now had a week to work on them.

This may then lead to further issues, which will need to be patched as they are discovered. It's a new MMO, and if you didn't expect these speed bumps then you probably haven't tried many MMOs in their infancy.

If they took down the server, the public outcries would far exceed those wanting the bugs fixed. The bad of a few bugs on live is a better risk than taking down the server for several days, as the game gets destroyed instantly in the media for not even being able to handle routine maintenance.

I would prefer they leave the server up until the next maintenance.

I'm not saying "several days," hell I'm not even saying a single day, maybe several hours at most, they need to make a heavy duty patch and slap the server back into shape with it, that's what they should've been doing this last week, developing a super patch that they can whip out and put all these complaints into the ground, where they belong. I've tolerated a great deal of these bugs without public rages and child-like fits, I've been a damn Good Samaritan by submitting every detailed bug report I could conjure up, they NEED to be using this data, and let everyone know they are, development hasn't nearly been as vocal as it should be right now, while some of us just throw dollars at our screens.

But you're missing the point. They don't need to take the servers down to be able to work on a patch. It would just be pointless and annoying.

Like I said, I don't care what they do at this point as long as they announce they're doing something, as I also said I want this game to succeed, I believe genuinely that it's worth the 15 dollars a month I'm paying, while I'm a student and I work hard for my money, I'm willing to pay it for a worthy MMO and I'm afraid to see ESO go F2P which would invite the rabble and cost more then 15 dollars a month, I know that money pays for the games advancement and that's why I don't mind paying it as opposed to painful microtransactions. I DO KNOW however, that If the game keeps losing subs to impatient people who lack the resolve some of us have on this thread, that Zenimax might need to fund itself and the game some other way, which would be very unfortunate for such a potentially great game.

It's still not vocal as much as I'd like, this should be on their front home page and not tucked away in the forums, but thank you for sharing.

Someone obviously doesn't understand how software development works...

They're working on it, the only reason to take the server down would be to stop all the item duplication which they have taken down to a minimum at this point.

I actually think the reason that most of these bugs didn't appear until release is BECAUSE they took servers down between stress tests. They needed a long term comprehensive test instead of in-house testing with a few large stress tests. Taking down the server won't fix anything, and it'll prevent other bugs from being discovered and patched.

Umm... WOW was a failure during launch, much worse than ESO is. And this is hardly the most revolutionary MMO ever created on this scale.

I agree that they need to fix things, I would rather see them roll out good, stable fixes rather than shut down the game to add sloppy fixes.

It's still got some mileage in it, just hang in there and jump the engine.

ESO should adopt the Eve Online approach to downtime: designate a one (or in this case, several-hour) stretch of time each day that the servers will be down during, so that the team can do whatever has to be done in the ways of maintenance and upkeep.

I'm all in favor of downtime for maintenance: what's irritating me is how arbitrary and all-over-the-board the server downtimes are. Middle of the day, afternoon, evening, nighttime, etc. It seems like the big push at the company is to keep the servers up for as long as possible as the issues stack up and performance drops.

I'm all for this, but if they chose 7am est like EVE did it's going to screw over the Ausies just like EVE does.

It took them 2 weeks to fix my God of Schemes issue and it required a special program and a GM to interact with my instance to do it.

Taking the servers offline for 1 day wont do anything... I doubt even a month would do it.
