This is exactly why many new players(not all) quit, especially the selfish one sided ones. They rush around and skip everything fun about the game. Then part way through they complain how bored they are and how it's not fun, while [snip] about every thing under the sun to ruin the experience of others. They invest nothing at all and want everything. They want everything for no effort and changed to their liking on day one because they suddenly decided to appear in the game and believe they are somehow ahead of or above everyone else. If they invested some leisure time and didn't use other players to change their nappies, and do everything for them, they'd be having plenty of fun.

Most players in all of my guilds are enjoying the chase for these leads.

Basic point here. It's a game. Enjoy it to the fullest.

This. When I first learned about "leads" I was pleased. Finally, something I might excel at while just playing the game, something most players don't have the patience for. Then I noticed flocks of people around the WBs I was going to do just to clear the map as I always do, bunches of people running like crazy killing every mob on sight in a quest-locked place, where I'm usually completely alone in my monster trophy hunts.... People posting in chat lfg dungeon x farm for lead....

Then I realized zos did it again. They introduced yet another grind where most players will check a guide, relentlessly and brainlessly farm some specific activities until they have everything on the first days, be beset by burnout... And then stop bothering with the whole system until they release a new chapter with another grindable system....

Players grinded Psijic. They hated it. I have Psijic on 8 characters but only one of them has it maxed exactly because I had to grind it to get the skills for a trial group. Otherwise I work on it slowly. I don't grind. So I don't mind it too much.

Players grinded jewelry. Everyone was buying every single ring and necklace in sight, farming dolmens, burning themselves out only to have the new things in the first days. I have 8 characters with maxed jewelry skill, no points in it though. Not a single piece bought. Why? Simply because I decon every ring I get during regular play. No grinding.

    And now this.

IMO, leads should be utterly and completely random seeing as they're account-wide anyway. Looking for that one specific part of the mount? Instead of just killing the same boss ad nauseum until it drops, it might pop when you're picking a flower. Or checking an NPC vendor. Or in your hireling's parcel. Or in a butterfly you picked by mistake. Or in a crocodile that attacked you out of nowhere. This way, players would be "rewarded" by actually playing the game instead of mindlessly grinding for everything.

Wait... you mean you don't compulsively harvest every crafting node you run across while doing stuff?

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU! All those nodes are so lonely!

But don't worry, they can be my friend instead. :p

In seriousness, though, @YandereGirlfriend highlights the REAL problem with this system. The antiquities system is neat (from what I've used of it so far) but attempts to monetize it are justifying bad game design as often happens with games that focus too much on monetization. In a game where provisioning ingredients and alchemy reagents never spoil, there is no reason to have leads expire other than to psychologically manipulate customers. The fact that expiration dates aren't even visible in the interface further hones this point - apparently you only get to see it when there's not much time left, which is obviously designed to psychologically pressure us to either play compulsively or buy Greymoor.

I'm loving all the people leveling antiquities running by all the nodes. You would not believe how many cornflowers I've picked up!

There are people who have already done clearing the maps. All maps except Western Skyrim. If I have already cleared Greenshade, for example, then the only way to get the Branch of Falinesti is to go there and farm wood nodes. There is no other activity in this zone for me (with the exception of rare treasure maps or surveys).

Yes, it would be better to have all zone leads from all zone sources. It would still result in grinding for those who have no other reasons to go into this zone.

Seriously is that it. why on earth do you think its a good idea, its not fun it isnt enjoyable it mind numbing running around looking for ore to harvest, after finally getting it the time it took has burned me out and i dont even want to play the dam game anymore.

you need to put more leads other than one way, otherwise the entire system isnt fun its mind numbingly grindy and if i wanted that id go back to wow.

Totally agree, I just spent the last 4 and a half hours trying to get the Remnant lead, and NOTHING. I must've mined over a hundred nodes, and nothing. Seriously, make this lead drop in other ways, so many other furnishing leads do so make it the same for the Remnant, this is just rediculous >:(

I completely disagree. To the opposite, it makes sense. Antiquities is like archaeology. When you are unearthing the earth you rarely to occasionally discover something that makes you ponder a by chance finding, a lead.

This is one of the few ways that makes much sense to me other than arbitrarily killing specific monsters.
Leads are an optional component, not required.
But, many people expect this game to be one major grind. Some love it, others not so much.

People are missing the reason for the lead expiration mechanic: it isn't to make people who have already bought the game grind faster, it is to get people who haven't bought the expansion at all to buy the expansion.

You're confusing intent with effect, though.

I mean, I think you are 100% right that the intent is to encourage people to buy the game. But it's a bit arrogant to say that other people are "missing the reason" when they are describing the effect of the timer, which does in fact encourage people to grind.

People complaining that leads drop in pledges? Saw that. From fishing? Been there too. From IC? Ofc. From overland bosses? Yes. Now ores. Next thread will be: why leads drop from overland chests, just give them all to me now, I need to complete all system has to offer in 1 week, and complain further, that I have nothing to do.

Whats funny is I love doing almost all of that. I got my skill to lvl 10 in 2 weeks and got every single item I personally wanted. Like 7 furnishings and the cool gloves. Including the remnant of the false tower they are upset about. I know that rng is random but I got it farming ore for 1 hour. Thats all.

So they can complain til the sun comes up but its still doable in 2 weeks.

While I agree for the most part I STRONGLY disagree on fishing it’s the most boring thing in the game it’s just bad you’re literally paying money to do nothing at all but press one button two times. Fishing is a long slow system with no upsides perfect roe is super rare and not at all needed.

It’s padding in the worst way possible boring padding.

If they need an expiration date, the countdown shouldn't begin until the skills are fully leveled. Forcing folks to grind to 10 or risk losing highly desireable items, is removing the fun from what should be an enjoyable activity. Once the skills are leveled, 30 days won't be such a hardship but while leveling it's definitely a fun drainer.

That would be a good argument if there was only one chance at getting a drop. However, once it's expired and you've then reached the necessary level to get the item it will drop again. I agree that RNG will come into play again, but there's no real need to rush the whole antiquities system just because you struck lucky with RNG early on before you could benefit from it.

I think there's a separate discussion to be had over whether the gear items should be CP 160 or scaled to the level of the character that gets them.

    And that is pure opinion.
    Which is fine.

But just because you, personally, have strong negative feelings about something doesn't mean that it is objectively a bad thing. And there is nothing wrong with the people who do like it.
LOTS of people attain the "Master Fisher" achievement, and many of those people enjoy fishing in this game.
They don't see it as "padding," much less "padding in the worst way."

It's not my favorite thing to do in the game, but I do, at times, like the "doing nothing while just enjoying the scenery" aspect of this type of game mechanic, and I AM, occasionally, working toward that achievement on my main.
I ignore fishing on my other characters.

The drop rate on this Remnant is just rediculous, I've just done another 2 hours of grinding ore nodes just to see if I could get the lead and nothing. Why do they think that this is fun and engaging content? This is just pure bullsh*t >:(

It's worse because there are plenty of other players who would love to get a Remnant furnishing, but we are all competing to get the same damn ore nodes.

Fishing is a nice activity to unwind after you’ve just done your 3rd or 4th run of Sunspire or CR+2/3. Like you’ll be mentally fatigued but too wound up after doing that stuff and Half the group is basically gonna BS for the next 30min after the trading is done so you many as well pass the time while doing g it. Oh and improve your chances at getting a drop while you’re at it.
