    Not a threat.

Don' t underestimate the power of the energy, money and time people have already invested in the game.
To start anew and throw all that away isn' t very attractive for a lot of people.

I’ve played New Worlds confidential alpha/beta and I can assure you it will never take over ESO.

Yes, but that is the thing!! If NW has a better base game and they start to add content and making a great pve/ pvp game then it will someday start to be a real treat to ESO.

ESO had a great pve in the beginning, but it was full of bugs and crashes. Then they implemented the lightning patch and that was the beginning of everything.

ESO has years of advantage, NW is a new game and like everything needs time to adapt to the feedbacks it will receive once is launched.

If Amazon reacts quickly and efficiently they can reach a lot in matter of some months.

I am more curious to what BLUE PROTOCOL will do to the game. That game seems to have similar mechanics and combat flow.

What is your point of view guys?

    a) NW is a bad knockoff of Shadowbane and Darkfall Online.

    b) Apparently you haven't played ESO to it's full extend while writing that comment.

ESO had more content on release date than NW will have in 5 years and even WoW (let alone all other MMORPGs) had at that time, 10y combined. (15 full zones, 5 smaller ones PLUS Cyrodiil which is bigger than 2 zones and with quests, delves etc).

Over 1200 fully voiced quests with unique storylines which are not go kill 10 rats. And I have found only 3 quests to have the same exact storyline (my main has done every single quest since 2014).

This is a lot of content to keep you going for months, in addition to delves, exploring to find lore books and without add-ons etc.

Second, completely different games. ESO is popular because is Elder Scrolls at its core with thousands of quests, exploration, books to read and very very deep lore. NW is a bad copy of Shadowbane & Darkfall Online.

The only game that would ever be able to challenge ESO in deep lore, is a game made exactly the same as ESO (huge maps, fully voiced well designed quests, dungeons, delves) and is based on Forgotten Realms around the Time of Troubles.

Alas TSR doesn't exist any more and WoTC is a pathetic company who destroyed the world. (this reflects also on the books those made by TSR and those by WoTC).

NW doesn't have Elder Scrolls world and lore and I suspect that's what most of the players are here for

NW is greatly lacking in lore. It was originally designed to be PvP but they are considering adding some PvE aspects outside of the current trash mobs but that will be after launch. That also seems to depend on how well the game launches.

And that's only because of how badly the PvP was received.

I would anticipate New World offering the same level of threat to ESO as Wildstar and ArcheAge - a bit of scare hype on the forum but no impact on the servers. ESO is in a good place at the moment apart from the performance issues that dog the competitive content which is a minority interest so the population remains healthy and still growing. As for the suggestion that the recent major updates have been poorly received, that doesn't seem to fit with the number of people discussing antiquities.

What i have found talking to people is that most new MMO's have to fear the older more established ones. ESO had more to fear from WOW than WOW had to fear ESO when it launched. And ESO did not die when FF or BDO launched. Players DO leave older games that does happen. But MMO's have a history of launching and failing. They also are not like most games historically. MMO's are mostly a time investment and players (my opinion) want to know if an MMO is good and will still be around for that investment to be worth the effort. They know that WOW and ESO have established player bases and communities and what to expect from them. New world is partially unknown.

New World is basically Rust online. It's not doing anything new nor interesting. As much as I wish there were more MMOs to put pressure on ZOS to get their *** together, it's not happening any time soon.

And despite how negative the forums are, I think people are pretty pleased with ESO's combat, horizontal progression, release schedule, and social aspects.
So the quantified, maybe a bit imprecise, mostly negative responses are an evidence of general contentment? Consensus works just in one direction, for better or worse.

But if the game is fun, has good performance and they introduce more content, do you think it can bring ESO down?

ESO biggest problem in my opinion is the performance, loading screens and then all the others things like balance problems, animation canceling where you can execute many skills in a short period of time, outputting in pvp so much damage that is impossible to react or know from where it comes, poor pvp attention and etc.

In my opinion if New World success where ESO failed over all these years, they may lose a big % of players.

What is your point of view guys?

My point of view is - bring it on - it will most likely get ESO the relief it requires to run somewhat smoothly again. We can live with a few quirks here and there, but if those attracted by new world would leave, it would be a win for ESO, make the game more enjoyable and if we enjoy it more we will as well spend more and ZOS won't be worse off.

And I guess after a while they will anyway be back again - new shiny stuff is often not what it is promising at first.

Unless I misunderstood something New World is pvp centirc, while ESO is pve centric. Two completely different priorities and game modes so I doubt ESO have anything to fear. Personally I have zero interest in a game that is that pvp centric with little to no questing, group pve and lore, much as I am unhappy with the current performance I wouldn't switch to NW even if it wasn5an Amazon game, which is deal breaker in itself.

I found this video and it seems a little bit sad the game. But I have also to keep in mind this not an official gameplay from Amazon but from some beta tester.

Graphically the game looks good but you can not see if it is fun or not, because you can only see a guy grinding and gathering, that's all, no quests, nothing.

For what I read you have a lot of weapons and specializations. No classes or racials.

In other videos I could only see grinding, pvp and gathering, more like a survival pvp game, with a lot of crafting.
But now it seems they are expanding it to a more ambitious project.

It seems that you can only equip 3 skills, each with a long cd. Personally I like for example ultimate abilities and that is for me a -1 point.

For what I also read you can only pvo if you flag for it, otherwise no one can attack you.

Finally and being objective there is really not too much material about this game. They are keeping it very in secret. They don't show too much and that is why is difficult to have an opinion, more than just let you influence for what others beta testers say and we know how bad the people can be.

I remember the bad reviews ESO got when they released the game, the videos in internet were very unfair and many of the videos were just intentionally offensive just to get attention. For this reason I believe is always important to don't be natural negative and always try to be objective.

Zeni should only fear themselves, they will determine their own destiny.

Right now New World is similar to an up and coming ESO DLC. People will be anxious for it to release, people will pump it up like it is the best game of 2020, and there will be many people that talk bad about it before trying it.

Even though I more than likely will never play NW, It will be interesting to see how Amazon's game performs on their owns servers.

I don't think so. I think that this game has a pretty devoted crowd that loves it for more than gameplay. It is an Elder Scrolls game after all. I'd be more worried about its future once TES6 has arrived than any new MMO actually. Thing is, it really is the best console MMO at the moment. We can complain about performance and monetization, but you look at some other games like Neverwinter, BDO, Tera, and night and day difference. I've been playing MMOs since Everquest and I think there's always going to be a population of people bouncing from MMO to MMO.

Ya know, I'm in the same boat honestly. FO76 really ruined my perspective on Bethesda and given how many bugs Skyrim had, I just can't see it being a smooth launch. I'd hope they've learned from it, but they're not being given that benefit of the doubt anymore. I think as long as ESO keeps its monetization on a leash and releases halfway decent content, I'll stick around.

I did hear some rumors about an ArenaNet console game. If that turns out to be Guild Wars related or just a solid product, I can see that distracting me.

End of the day, I'll probably still play this game off and on like I have since launch. It's just a staple at this point.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

    From an article at PCGAMER:
"What kind of MMO is New World?
There's a PvP territory control element to New World, but it isn't a totally player-driven sandbox. If you want, you can spend all of your time fighting monsters, leveling up, and finding or crafting new gear. You can group up with other players to take on world events or attempt a boss fight. You don't have to pay much attention to player politics at all, and can play New World like a standard open world RPG: Explore new areas, kill new things, find new resources, craft new stuff.

If you want to fight other players in the open world, you can turn on your PvP flag once you join one of world's three factions. If you're killed by a player from another faction, you only lose some equipment durability, and maybe some pride and time. Your reward for opting into PvP is extra experience points for everything you do.
    "

    I wouldn't say it's mostly PvP focused.
Good? Who knows right now, but it is backed by Amazon, so money would be no object if their goal is to make an engaging, time worthy Mmo.
    Time will tell.

To me it looks like a lot of other early access games - seen from that video - doesn't impress me at all. Not even music in that video and who know if that game has voice acting at all or even quests. Then the notion of a "totally player-driven" game, that sounds to me like players have to bring or create content, because the game has pretty much no content by itself. Graphics are not after my liking - too vibrant, light sources are plain static, no flickering or anything what would give the scenery some atmospheric feel - a backdrop for pvp at best, where players anyway play their own music - not my kind of game at all.

When I compare this to the wonderful atmospheric presentation in ESO, sound design, voice acting, excellent music - new world is basically an empty backdrop for pvp action and not much more - and it looks as such - like a very simplistic level of a cheap pvp or fps game.
