Like Warden, Battlemage was actually originally planned to be in the game from Day One.

For whatever reason it was scrapped.

If the theory that we are going to Cyrodiil next year holds true, then I would be surprised if the class is not Battlemage.

in a way we already have battlemages with the heavy armour which can still pump out dps, its hard to pick but maybe it will be imperial as it seems they are doing maybe cryodiil, ending the 3 banner wars, as a quest in greymoor hints at a dragon break

With Vampires being designed as MeleeMages, there is no need for BattleMages anymore.
Moreover, I also feel like we already have enough classes.
Therefore, I also would prefer more weapon skill lines for more variety, especially a Melee Magicka weapon.

I would prefer ZOS to work on performance.

But if we were to have new 'classes' they should do them like guilds. Since we can only have a limited amount of skills slotted, it could allow for more horizontal progression beyond gear. Just give them 2 signature active skills, 2 passives, and maybe an ultimate instead of the regular skills. We'd still have to figure out how to make builds with them.

Give these 'classes' a couple of npc's to act as a teacher of the groups' techniques and philosophy. And you have a small minifaction that any player could join and learn. Some of these skills could be related to weapons and foci that have been asked for, and double as backup weapon skill lines to an extent. Especially if they could give these groups a motif.
    • Battlemage/Spellsword
    • Archer/Scout
    • Bard/Scholar (we almost have that with the lore surrounding Antiquities, but no we had to have a mini game instead)
    • Berserkers
    • Monks/Pugilists
    • And so on.
The above list are just examples. I seriously doubt ZOS would ever do this. I have come to believe that they have a limit placed on them on what they can create, and likely this is why we won't see this kind of approach. But it does feel like the game is missing something to not have this in some form.

I'd rather have new Skill Lines than a class, in particular weapons.

Popular choices include One Hand & Focus, Hand-to-Hand/Unarmed, Polearms.

I'd even like to see Bard support skills for morale-boosting buffs and demoralising debuffs, etc.

Obviously there are balance changes, and performance issues that need to be fixed before we start adding new classes, BUT all that aside.

What new class would you want them to add to the game?

Maybe a Spriggan class? Could be interesting.

A spriggan is a monster not a person much less a job maybe a wyrd witch but warden kinda covered fruitlessly the nature aspect.

Im hoping battle mage, a warrior that has stam base morphs than can branch out to magicka, maybe an elemental mage thats not a daedric zoo keeper or corpse herder.

A specialization based of existing classes (4th skill line)

But no, we dont need another bugged and rushed class.

    We need better performance.

Obviously same reasons as the Warden. Battlemage was most likely too similar to the Sorcerer. But, they took the time to redesign the Warden to make it unique enough, can't see why they can't do that again.

They should really take some time to make sure the vampire rework, (and werewolf tweeks), work well enough to be playable, fun and not OP, before moving on to another class or skill line.

new race would be more fun, or an overhaul to the racial system would be better. I would like to see race as cosmetic and then upon creation, pick 3/4 racial passives, and finally the ability to change your passives out at shrines

I want to see a new playable race, I want to see race passives impact your playstyle less, why can't I be a orc magicka sorcerer without being at a disadvantage.

People asking for a ''battlemage'' class look at the bigger picture.. what special is it going to offer
It's just gonna be another sorcerer maybe different spell colors and less or more pets.. pointless..

Necromancer was a great addition it added an entire new theme, a battlemage isn't going to do that no one is gonna look at a trailer of a battlemage and be like well i will buy the game just to play that!

Werewolf needs a texture fix it looks like a damn puppy, also a overhaul imo.
Vampire is still quite trash and can use a second overhaul.

    New class?

Literally nothing that would make sense in this game, we already have the typical classes.

Dragonknight, your typical warrior with a dragon theme.
Sorcerer, your wizard & summoning class.
    Nightblade, your typical thief/rogue class.
    Templar, your paladin/godly themed class.
    warden, nature/druid class.
necromancer, the dark wizard summoning the undead class..

What else would make sense, a monk maybe? but has there ever been lore about a fighting monk?
Someone in here mentioned a bard which would just be weird and make no sense what you gonna throw books at enemies? and tell them a story till they die from boredom? this just doesn't fit in the game.

Tbh no. It’s already too late.

The ideal way to balance ESO would have been to do what a lot of successful games do which is to keep the things players like the same, and then add new classes/characters/etc going forward to expand on a clearly working formula.

In other words, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

All of the tons of fun skills like Crystal Frags should have stayed the way they were. Class playstyles/general rotations should have never changed. Remember how a Magicka Sorcerer PvE DPS used to cycle between Crystal Frags, Velocious Curse, Force Pulse, and Endless Fury? That old rotation which existed from the launch of ESO all the way until Homestead is what a Sorcerer should have stayed as.

The unique playstyles we all used to enjoy so much should have stayed the way they were and then a new class could provide whatever new types of playstyle ZOS. Instead we have heavy homogenization.

New classes serve as cash grabs for ZOS so I would rather they didn’t add new classes. Just look at Necromancers.... there was legit a time when we have 7-8 Necros in group for endgame PvE because they were so clearly BiS. Even now eith the Major Vulnerability invulnerability period, you need at least 3 Necros for their OP Ults. 3/8 DPS as one class right off the bat.

In my opinion it is rather time to give up on classes altogether, than introducing a new one.
As we have only 12 skills to slot we are limited enough.
And by opening all skill lines to every character all balance issues will be gone :-)

For some reason Zenimax thought the average ESO player is more stupid than a traditional TES player, since they've removed a feature that was a part of every single TES game.

Except it isn't about being dumber than "a traditional TES player" it's about multiplayer vs single player. In single player no one cares if you break the game with some unintended super build. In an mmo you have tons of other players who care if you break the game. "But everybody will have access to the super build!" Yup, and then you will see nothing but the super build, until the nerf. Then it'll be another super build, then nerf, super build, nerf. Rinse, repeat. And this is also why i think spellcrafting will be entirely cosmetic if they ever implemented it.

Edit (because i hate not having at least a suggestion of a solution to a problem):
To make an open skills system work they would have to do a redesign of the combat system from the ground up and something on that level would most likely be eso 2. But they could rework combat to a slightly slower pace with skill cooldowns and hard coding limits on interactions between skills.

Tl;dr no they don't think we're dumb. They know we're collectively smarter than they are and will find a way to break the game.

    Morrowind we got Wardens
    Summerset we got jewelry crafting
    Elsweyr we got Necromancers
    Greymoor we got Antiquities

Seems a theme of class expansion then new feature expansion so our chances are high if we get a new one. Maybe they'll add in bard I've seen some wanting that one. As for 'are there too many classes' well it has 6 classes now which is still lower than other mmos I know of.

I'd rather they fix the classes before adding new ones.

But if I had to choose, I'd say a new weapon skill line for bound weapons so magic users can get up close in melee if they want.
