Antiquities system - Leads Countdown timer?

There’s no timer in the UI, @Grey17.

Until an enterprising add-on author comes along, you can probably use your smart phone to keep track.

Of course, the elephant in the room question though:

Do you really need 30 days to track down a lead??
I would like an addon who show all available leads globally as you can get them on alts and during busy fights, as its now its cumbersome to find them and even that is available among all the found items, made worse in that stuff like furniture can be found multiple times.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Putting a time limit on leads is silly!

The leads should not expire. I would rather see that change than a timer.

Besides the fact that it adds a false sense of urgency which ruins some of the fun, this also is just extremely bizarre from game logic perspective. I can pick up a quest where someone is in danger RIGHT NOW and wait six months to help them, but learning the location of something old that's been underground for centuries is a limited time offer?

    It is utter nonsense.

I can’t remember where I heard this, but I’m sure I heard someone say that the lead expiring was to simulate the short term usefulness of that type of information. Like, here’s a lead I have on a hot item, but you’d better move quick or someone else who’s learned about it will get to it before you! Now, of course that doesn’t really happen in the game since all leads and their excavation sites are individual to the player, but the news not lasting forever simulates that. Are you sure that something to this effect isn’t anywhere in the tutorial? They should definitely include it

That's a really good explanation. What makes less sense is that you have a limited time at a dig, and if you don't finish in time the treasure moves to another location...you don't even get to keep the extra treasures you dug up.

Hmm. Interesting. It's almost as if this was designed to have built-in inconveniences you could pay to bypass like those shady free-to-play games...

... but I'm hoping that's not the why of it. If we see cash shop items that give you "one free extra dig attempt" and other crap like that? I'm going to have some words. Words that will end up being moderated if I post them, but I'm going to have some words.

As there is a timer, it should be possible to make it visible with an AddOn ;)

If someone creates it, I'll download it immediately.

When I recently heard there might be a 30 day timer, since I didnt see a timer on the leads I had found unintentally, I sort of assumed maybe the timer started if I failed to find the item the first time I tried to scry it. I was hoping to take my time leveling the skill line. I was getting excited when I found each new lead but if the time starts the moment the lead drops, for now on I probably wont feel much excitement for new leads because they will probably all be expired by the time I get the skill line leveled enough.

Do you really need 30 days to track down a lead??

Have you actually leveled the skills up to 10?

Anyone doing it casually is in legitimate danger of not being able to dig up Ultimate Difficulty items within 30 days.

Screw timers, just remove the expiration date. If an antiquity was buried for centuries without anyone ever finding it, I'm sure it can wait for another year without any problems.

Ugh this timer thing is really disappointing. Why does it even exist? What does it add to the system? I have found a couple of gold leads but I have zero skill points, and the skills themselves are slow-going since I am trying to do other content as well. Now I feel like I need to rush my scrying and excavating just so I don't miss out on these furnishings.

    Working as intended, probably.

Reading all this has definitely made me rethink how I'm going to approach the Greymoor chapter. Originally I was going to do what I usually do - bring in my most suitable character for the expansion story-wise and take my time with it. Now I'm thinking the smarter thing to do is going to be to avoid the story content....

    ....

.... the very concept of which is seriously making my brain twitch because the entire reason I even play this game is mostly for story content and self-driven roleplaying.

That I'm even considering postponing doing story content because of this new system is just... what the... ?! Urgh...

I decided to just hand canon that my character that is leveling antiquities was pretty much a natural at using the Antiquarian's Eye and an expert already at digging up treasure from years of adventuring so I will just wait a bit to work on the Greymoor story line (kind of laggy there anyways from crowds of people) and just quasi seriously try to grind antiquities for the next week or 2.

Well, how many leads will we be picking up? It takes a while to level. Took up all my playtime this weekend to only get to level 4 in the skill lines. If I wasn't ignoring the content I want to do to grind this out, I would probably have expiring leads in a month.

On the other hand, I was really enjoying playing through my back log (doing Greymoor prologue, finishing Elsweyr zones) before Greymoor dropped and I started doing this glorified mobile game.

Leads expire? That's... poopy. I'd been saving them as a long-range thing, as something to do after I finish the Greymoor questing content... I wish I'd known it was a 'use it or lose it' situation; I wouldn't have bought the expansion.

It would be nice to have a list of available leads (with timers listed), since clicking through every zone and hovering over items to see if you have a lead is a bit annoying.

I understand that the system has a 30 day count down timer before the leads disappear, but where is this timer so I know how much time I have left? Mousing over the lead doesn't bring up
    anything.

    Anyone throw me a bone?

    I wouldnt worry about it.

If you are asking this question, it means you are casual and your skills are not at 10 10. You can level up antiquities in about 15 hours or less.

In reality, even if you lose a lead, you can pretty easily find it again. So if you aren't motivated to power level your antiquities skills by excavating the free zone leads, then dont worry about it because you will find those leads again.

Oof. This isn't just a timer on leads, it's a ticking time bomb. I can guarantee that, in less than a month when the PC people's leads start expiring, there's going to be forum post after forum post filled to the brim with people upset at this.

The least they could have done was add a timer to the UI....or even SAY in-game that they expire...
