Hi there,
I've been playing ESO since launch, and I couldn't help but feel that Server downtimes keep sneaking up on me, leaving me with nothing to for a few hours unexpectedly.
I would just like to suggest a few things that could help communicate to the players about downtimes and the like.
Firstly: Flash up a message in game a few minutes before you take the server down. If you do this it would make it clear to players that they aren't having issues at their end, and to expect the game to cease functioning soon. Just something like "NOTICE: SERVER DOWN FOR MAINTENANCE IN 5 MINS"
Next: Use the game launcher and it's newsfeed more! You have this excellent resource that ALL players see before they start the game, just post up a notice saying that the server is down, you could even link it straight to the forum post about the issue! Currently the thing at the top of my launchers newsfeed is 2 days old! and I am definite alot has happened since then. Also currently you have to load all the way to the login screen before you are told if the server is down, so if you could somehow incorporate a server status thing on the launcher as well, that would save alot of people alot of time.
Lastly: Tell the players how long the downtime is going to last, even if you don't know how long it is going to last, just tell people that. Its better than just being told the servers are down and not knowing if its going to be 5 mins or 5 hours before you can play again.
If you have read any of these and taken any of it seriously, thank you... people hate to be out of the loop on things like this. Especially when they are actively subscribing for a service but have no idea when they are actually able to use it. If any of these suggestions were to actually be implemented, I'm sure it would greatly increase player's quality of experience and clarity of communication and understanding with the development team.
