You just pop in here without even the sligthest hint at an apology to tell us the server "might" be up if nothing is found?
Dude, let me tell you this, first thing you gotta do is apologize to the hundreds of thousands of players who have been somewhat patiently waiting to play because you guys screwed up, again.

You may be happy for that but I personally am not, its bad customer service. Communication is key. If a Service Company doesn’t understand that......
I think the main issue here, if you can sift through all the ranting is that most people are time poor and what little free time they do have they don’t like to waste. Hence the general feeling of dissatisfaction here.
Yet again though theres a complete lack of updates, so then you have threads from people asking of they should just go down the Pub, now if there were updates he could have made an informed choice, however seeing as we dont know how bad things are the Servers may be back up in five minutes or it may be tomorrow.
So I will ask how many people here have been hanging around checking the forums on the off chance?
Now how many of you could have been doing something else?
Exactly.
This is why communicating to your customer base is a corner stone of good business.
Yep, you have Daggerfall as well.

Personally I feel confident in interpreting no news/update as 'We're still working on it and have no updates to tell you yet' rather than 'We're all gone home and left you all hanging Muahahaha'. When there is something new to tell I'm sure they will tell us. I don't need regular 'No news yet' updates, what a waste of time.
I don't need meaningless updates that tell me no new info - happy to assume they are still busy - they will be wanting the servers up as desperately as we all do too, believe it or not.

Well this is why 90% of people who rage here should stay away from MMO launches for the first month or so. I've never been able to work out why people buy 0-day MMOs and the rage when the server goes off. Do you really think Zenimax has a real life sheogorath that say "Hey, let's shake things up and have some fun at EU prime time"!

21:15 Server back up. 21:16 server backed up. 21:17 Hamster flies out of wheel at high speed. 21:18 server down!
Are we all ready to try to log in at the same time?
Let's hope that my tongue in cheek prediction does not come true!

I can empathise with your experience with SOE, however regular updates during an ongoing incident is accepted best practice thoughout the IT Industry.Pipsissiwa wrote: »You may be happy for that but I personally am not, its bad customer service. I do understand that, but unless they can provide new information then it still seems pointless to me. I can see how others disagree tho. I'm just not sure how an update saying 'Still working on it, no further ETA yet' is of use to anybody apart from hand-holding comfort tho - you still can't plan your evening. I just check back periodically, or go out if the option is there. But then I don't feel the need to be back in game the second the servers come back, I'm happy to go do something else and play when they're back eventually.
Maybe its because I'm so used to SOE - we start nagging about them talking to us after a few weeks - updating more than once per event/day is a miracle.

Yeah. Problem is, if 90% stayed away, the producers wouldn't make near as much dosh as they do when everyone buys it early. And of course, all the load-related issues would simply occur when everyone else 'buys in' after a month. What you would really need to do is get people to pay up front but have staggered access - though of course no one will be willing to pay for a game to wait 10 months before they are let in while others are already playing it. So they and we all rather live with the bugs and the downtimes and all get in when it's new...
