Hate Whispering

Only one hate whisper per day is pretty low. I get hatewhispers from almost every very high ranking PvPler (Grand Warlord, Warlord and so on) with at least 1000 CP, if I killed them, or maybe didn't even kill them. Just yesterday I guarded a dead body and a warlord wanted to res him, I didn't move an inch, but he flamed me that I couldn't fight without NPCs thats why I run to them all the time (after I killed his 2 buddies without NPCs as they tried to 3v1 me) And he was the one attacking me and then blaming me for him to not be able to kill me, because of NPCs, yeah sure. He was basically flaming me, because I didn't let him lure me away from the dead body.

The reason people are more hostile is the negative performance of the game leading to higher frustration levels in general.

I consider hate whispers to be some kind of trophy, a proof of your skill, I'm actually happy when I get one xD
I do love to send whispers to my opponents sometimes, but they're always positive. I've had nice chats with people who just obliterated me. I remember back to IC release, someone actually gave me pieces of advice and recommended me a build, for the first time. I still get some tips here and there since :) If they beat me, they must be doing something good, so I probably have something to learn from them.

On Discord, there's always a "salt" category in PVP oriented guilds, where you more or less compete with others showing off all the salt you have earned. A sign of achievement for sure.

I love to PVP I do it to have fun, it isn't personal and sometimes your team just doesn't gel and you all get farmed. I can totally accept that.
What I struggle to deal with is the hate whispers I get just for PVPing.

None of my builds are trolly, everything I play is max stat based with no proc sets.
I also do not play a nightblade or a magsorc  I mainly PVP on my magdk or stamcro(which I know is meta at the moment).

I wish I was the kind of person that could shrug off the aggression I get just for playing well, but it really bothers me.
Normally I just ignore someone after being hate whispered, but it legitimately puts me off playing sometimes.

Recently I am getting hate whispered once a day which is a massive increase.
I don't know if it is because people have been playing all day and are frustrated by the time i finish work and can jump on and play.
It certainly seems to me though it has increased from being occasional to frequent.

What I think would be good is if during PVP the other team/faction couldn't whisper you, with maybe a cooldown after a BG.
This would allow people the opportunity to chill out and reconsider their transgressions.
Maybe this could be an option to switch on and off, but regardless I would rather not receive abusive messages just for playing the game as intended.
I know you can set yourself to offline mode, but this also eliminates friends from whispering you.

I used to play WOW probably 10 years a go now and it was impossible for people to send you private messages from the opposite faction, so this was never an issue.

Perhaps it is just me, but regardless I would love to hear people's thoughts on this?

Get good at 1 v Xing in open world Cyro and you will get more then one hate whisper a day....

If the group manages to eventually take you down. You will find players that didn’t even land one hit :D tea bagging your characters body, like it is a new mini game in ESO.

The messages I receive are really horrible. Ranging from just trash talk to worse things, since they know I am a girl.

My advice is report the ones that go over the line without a doubt. The rest of the trash talk, take it as a compliment from other players.

Realize they want it to affect you or they’re just bad mannered.

Though the best advice I can give, is don’t even bother reading them :)

Just enjoy the game when it works

Take it as a compliment. I got a couple ss of a conversation where a dude blamed me for running away from 4 players chasing me, then killing him specifically when he over extended. Then blamed it on my internet being better than his lmao. The rage is real.

Wear it as a badge of Honor! Seriously, collect the screen shots or record the whispers then make a video and post it on youtube. It's great!

No matter what you do someone out there will hate whisper you. Heck you will get them for farming nodes, standing in doorways, role playing, having a name they don't like and on and on. You will get them for doing your job in PVE dungeons too. Some people are just strange and have to rage at anything.

From my limited PVP time I too have received hate whispers. The last few I got were from a PVP player I killed with a seige weapon. Over and over. LOL. Apparently we aren't supposed to kill opposing faction players with Siege weapons! Who knew!?! LOL

I always laugh when I get them. I do mean always! If you get overloaded with them I suggest going in "Offline" mode so they cannot whisper you. That works well.

Hope your time in game is fun and enjoyable!

In general you are expected to be able to deal with the toxicity if you go into pvp. If it gets to you, you can always set your status to offline. Nobody will be able to whisper you. You still can use group and guild chats though.

I hear this, but I don't do PVP because I enjoy being toxic and tea bagging people(which I never do).
Genuinely enjoy competing directly against other humans. I have 2 guilds I get a lot of whispers from so setting myself offline isn't really an option for me.

I get what you're saying. I'm more of a fan of good sportsmanship myself. So, I usually stick to pvp focused games that are designed purely around pvp. Tekken 7 comes to mind. I usually play as a very troll-ish character and often get private messages, but around 95% of these are quite friendly and people mostly are asking advice on how to deal with certain stuff. Often we can even share some less known tech between each other.

Sadly, in ESO my pvp experience is pretty bad, as in if you're getting a whisper, it always will be loaded with insults, don't even have to look at it nowadays. And performance issues aren't making people more chill either. So, you don't have much choice. Grow thicker skin, set to offline or add to ignore list (heads up, it has a limit). Good luck.

Enjoy the game for that is all it is, it matters not if someone throws their toys out of the pram during/after pvp it just shows they are immature halfwits that play a game that gets them all fired up over nothing. Be bigger than them, either ignore them or hit them with a thank you for pointing out to me that you're upset my job is done, have a nice day.. etc. but be nice don't give them any idea that they have you rattled which will upset them more. ;)

The undisputed king of hate tells and trash talk was [Snip]. I was in a couple guilds with him and we PvP'd together a lot and the funniest thing about it was that he was really a pretty nice guy... until the tunnel vision kicked in. He was very competitive and when he hyper-focused on one or more players, they became the outlets for all of his frustrations and he did not hold back. I miss him, but I understand that he's in a much more serene headspace now that he's gone from the game.

Generally when I get hate tells, I just remind the person to check their food buff or thank them for the AP and remind them they'll have plenty of other shots at me if I'm the one that didn't have to rez. Sometimes I'll blame it on the Ancient Aliens or something equally silly and more times than not we end up having a fun conversation. I've had quite a few people apologize for their rants after we talked for a bit.

Embrace the salt, don't take it personally and try to turn it into a few laughs. You may just make a new friend over it.

"I don't play a nightblade lolz", you wouldn't get any hate whispers playing a nightblade, they can't do *** in battlegrounds. You are playing the 2 classess that are most prone to hate mails barring magsorcs. They even get hate mails from each other! I dueled a stamcro once with BRP DW and thuvokin on my mag dk and after 3 minutes I lost, got salty and called his build lame. Then he acted as if spamming fosilize on cooldown was even cheaper that he was doing. I always get at least 1-2 whispers a day if I'm on my stamcro doing pvp for a while, and ocasionally on mag dk too - wings, fosilize and talons have a hidden passive of provoking hate whispers.

If you want love mails i suggest playing magcro, I got an adoration whisper after about 10 matches of playing magcro with calurions lich and kjalnar, felt nice for a change.

I don’t get hate-whispered often (probably as a result of a talent issue that I am nursing!). However, I went through a period of getting quite a lot so I started responding with the simple phrase “I love you”. When I got a reply back, I simply said “no, I mean it...... I love you”.

Seeing the confusion this created was hilarious. Some people saw the joke and came around, while it made others absolutely livid, and there was every reaction in between.

It was as utterly pointless as the hate-whisper was in the first place, but it kind of turned the whole thing into a game and I had quite a few laugh-out-loud moments.

You only get one hate whisper per day?

You need to step up your game man, you have barely scratched the surface of salty losers. I get a lot more than one, that's not even worth mentioning to be honest.

I don't let toxic PvPers get under my skin, I expect people to present the worst possible version of themselves in PvP, it's the nature of PvP.

Just put them on ignore and you never have to worry about hearing anything from them ever again. It's really not that big of a deal. There are other things far worse that people do than whispering a hate message.

If you choose to PvP then just like you have to accept the fact you are going to be killed over and over, and some people will do really childish things like tea bag you when you lose to them, you also have to accept the fact that PvP means you will get toxic salty messages from people who just simply don't like you.

    It's PvP

No one should even take the game seriously. Just yesterday some guy "1vX" me at a resource when I was flipping flag and other came because the game literally let me do nothing but stand like an idiot after the guard disoriented me.

I was like: really? ZOS still has not removed this crap?

He was probably puzzled when I was seemingly immortal later and I wonder if that resulted in a report. Hmmm...

I found that pre-50 bgs seemed to have more immature people. I don't think anyone from the other team has ever trolled me, but it seemed like there was always one person on your own team raging that the rest of you sucked. Half the time they would come out with the lowest score in the group.

After 50 I see a lot less of that, but it still happens sometimes.

I'd love to see an addon that could take any whisper and auto translate it into some sort of ultra positive message instead.

    So they would send:

    **** you right in the **** ***.

    But you would see:

Your breath is like a gentle summer breeze that fills me with joy and creates happiness waves throughout the community.

The best way to deal with hate whispers (apart from ignoring, but I don't have the self control) is to reply in a manner that you would to your translated example above -

"Thanks so much, glad you are a fan <3"
"You're a star, thanks SO much for your message"

    That type of stuff XD.

Even easier, just send " :) " back. But then ignore them or else you might get an even nastier follow up.

what I would love is if they implemented a system like in Dark Age of Camelot where the individual factions/enemies couldn't speak to each other at all. In ESO, maybe just in pvp lands tho.

The worst you ever saw in DAoC was something like "A [insert race here] says something in a language you can't understand." it was marvelous.

When I get hate whispered I like to go on absurdist tangents such as telling them that they are so moody because they aren't using essential oils and recommending which oils they should use to even themselves out.

Asking people about what kind of tacos they like seems to also calm down a lot of sweaty tryhards.

I usually let them rant if they want knowing they will soon get bored and move on. Sometimes though I have to stir things up. I have found if you link a silky handkerchief telling then to use it to dry their tears it escalates the cursing and the insults to a whole new enjoyable level. I've not done that for a very long time though. Been a while since anybody bothered to send me hate whispers. Maybe my skills are slipping?
