I guess some people's egos just can't handle defeat. :#

Personally, if I were to hate-whisper everyone who's better than me, I'd be so busy typing angrily into the chat box that I'd have no time for anything else! I just proceed from the assumption that I'm going to lose, so there's nothing to get upset about. :D

I thought I was the only one :D I enjoy healing, pvp is fun for me. I'm useless in a 1v anything. I measure my success by how long I survive. All that counts is keeping my team alive and buffed for as long as I can. I can get a bit grumpy if I'm killed on the other side of the map but hating a player just because they have mastered their role is a sure sign of an inferiority complex. Try not to let it bother you OP.

As a general rule, I don't PvP at all. I'll try to assist with AvA action during Cyrodiil events, but I'm too squishy and have pretty low DPS, so I'm not much help except as a zergling. :) But it's a fun alternative to flipping undefended resources by myself-- and then watching them get flipped right back again.

So far, the hilight of my PvP life was when I'd helped a group take some keeps and an outpost. Everyone else moved on to the next keep in line, but I think I ran back to home base first, to turn in my AvA quests and visit the bank. Then I ported back to the outpost. Or maybe I had just run back into the outpost to buy some stuff from the siege merchant; I forget.

Anyway, as I was riding away from the outpost to join everyone else at the next keep, I went past an enemy player who was hiding by a tree stump and he lost stealth due to my proximity, but he didn't attack me. I rode past him-- so he went back into stealth-- then I decided "What the heck," he's just waiting to retake the outpost, so the patriotic thing to do would be try to stop him, even though I fully expected to lose. I turned around and rode back and forth until I destealthed him again, then started whacking on him with my greatsword. He never once tried to block or hit back, so I figured he must have parked himself by the tree stump while he was AFK for a bit. It took an embarrassingly long time, but I managed to kill him. Then up pops one of those achievement messages to tell me that I'd just killed a Grand Overlord or whatever the highest rank is called. :o I could imagine this guy coming back to his keyboard and finding my name plastered all over his death recap, so I figured I'd probably just painted a giant bull's eye on my back for the rest of the night. :s

Another time, I was running around scouting and soloing resources for AvA jobs, and was heading past a town on the way to a resource deep in enemy territory. On a whim, I decided to see if I could take the town by myself, so I flipped one flag, then the next, then moved to the third. As I'm battling the NPC guards at the third flag, I see that the first one hed been flipped back, but no one was rushing to attack me. After I flipped the third flag, I ran back to flip the first one again, but of course by that time the second flag was being flipped back. So for several minutes I was running around trying to get all three flags flipped at the same time while someone else was trying to flip them back. Then I tried to cut them off by skipping the flag they'd just flipped back, and it was a lone sorceress. She and I started going after each other-- she was bombarding me with crystals, and I was trying to get close enough to her to whack her with my greatsword. She almost had me several times, but I kept burst-healing myself with my clannfear. Eventually I quit trying to attack her, and just parked myself by the flag to flip it back while I burst-healed myself over and over. She finally gave up and let me take the town. The sad part was, as soon as I took the town I ran off to do my scouting and resource missions, and the town stayed blue after I ran off, so I figure she must have run off. I actually felt sorry about that! :'(

My general response to hate whispers is usually "Naawwwwwww".

I consider them to be a compliment, so don't mind getting them.

lol You lot are missing out on so much fun, if I get a hate whisper I'll either /w back "noob" a load of times which triggers them more or I'll offer them to a 1v1 in some remote place and just never turn up.

My @Name triggers nearly every salty player I kill and I get hate /w all the time, lots and lots of salt on PC-EU :D

    It’s a compliment.

I’m loving it each time I manage to *** someone off to the point they have to degrade themselves, all while I’m in my jammies, sipping tea, and high fives the cats.

Welcome to the club of awesomeness ❤️

    Not sure that's winning....

Hate whispers are the tears of victory! I treasure each one as it let's me know that I have won & am now living rent free in my enemy's head. They are mad & I am not. Victory.

It is just sad people. I do not respond to them which usually leads them to keep trying and eventually giving up. I expect it makes them more upset they cannot get me riled up. lol

What is funny, about a year ago someone created a thread about hate whispers in PvP and how it would get heated talking to them. In another thread, they did not like my post and sent me a PM trying to belittle me. I realized their issue was not receiving hate whispers but sending them. LOL.

Just thought I would put that out there for a laugh as it does show the type of person who sends hate whispers.

That’s just because you haven’t tried it. High fives from the queen (20 year old cat) are the only stamp of quality one needs

The reason people are more hostile is the negative performance of the game leading to higher frustration levels in general.

Hate tells are the highest form of compliment you can receive in ESO, it only really bothers me when it makes no sense or they mistake me for somebody else.

I absolutely love hate comments.....the best ones are when they start mailing them to you on a daily bases :D I usually tend to mess around with people sending me hat mail be it copying whatever they said and send it back or just sending love mail back or arguing with them or just finding said person and killing them again to really get the hate mail going.
    :)

I got a hate whisper for LOSING. Like, I was there to finish my Master Angler thing, so I was literally just standing there fishing and someone ran up and killed me. I was like, fine, this was a good enough time for a bio anyway since it was gonna take me a while to get back out to the fishing spot. Came back to a hate whisper telling me how much I sucked because I was easy to kill.

That was when I came up with my current strategy for dealing with hate whisperers. There is a particular children's song that went viral a year or so ago...most people have heard it. I'm not going to type it out because I don't want to set it off stuck in people's heads that are just skimming through, but if you think about annoying children's songs that get stuck in your head forever you will know which one I'm talking about. So now if I get a hate whisper, I BS them. I just answer them with the lyrics to that song so it will get stuck in their head, and then I put them on ignore. It's very satisfying. I don't have to know what their reaction is, I know there's a very high chance I just got a annoying af song stuck in someone's head for days as punishment for being a jerk to me for no reason, and I think that's fair.
