I voted yes, but Altmer should be Auridon, not Summerset.

I used to wonder why certain races have the same backgrounds, but then I realized that it seems to be based on the starting zone of the character's alliance:
    • Stros M'Kai for Daggerfall Covenant (Breton/Redguard/Orc)
    • Bleakrock Isle for Ebonheart Pact (Nord/Dunmer/Argonian)
    • Khenarthi's Roost for Aldmeri Dominion (Altmer/Bosmer/Khajiit)
I'm not certain that this is correct, but it seems to be.
Look at AD again - they have Auridion as background, not the kitty isle.

Still, the idea that the backgrounds are an alliance thing is valid. But... it would be way more fun if they weren't and had more varied options. Personally... I'd love to see them "racial homelands"...
    ...like:
    • Altmer - Auridion (current AD)
    • Argonian - Murkmire (DLC)
    • Bosmer - Valenwood (possibly Elden Root?)
    • Breton - High Rock (possibly Wayrest?)
    • Dunmer - Firemoth Isle (Morrowind tutorial)
    • Imperial - Imperial City (DLC)
    • Khajiit - Star Haven Adeptorium (Elsweyr tutorial)
    • Nord - Bleackrock Isle (current EP)
    • Orsimer - Orsinium (DLC)
    • Redguard - Stros M'kai (current DC).
...and then only change the -flag- to depict the alliance.

Another possibility for character selection screen background picture selection would be... if we had a bunch of new "character background" passives, including one for "birthplace", which then could come with a background for each option for all to choose which one they want most for their characters! As in:
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/442350/character-background-passives ;)

    [*] Altmer - Summerset >:(
    The Auridion background already exists.
And its as much a part of the "summerset isles" as the bigger one, so... less work for ZOS, more chances they will squeeze it into their plans?

    I like this idea.

I'd love it even more if the background was dependent on where you set your "Primary Home" to be, if you own one, or a homeland of your Race in your alliance if you don't.

Well, duh. Newer regions usually have better looks, because time goes by and skills sharpen as they are used, that's as true for the development tram and other advances.

Just sayin, the character celection screen background is hardly grand enough to show all the goodies... though if they did have a view of summerset proper, by all means.

The same argument can be made for nords and a "greymoor turorial" view... or redguards and maybe using something more adcanced as well, possibly from Hew's Bane, or the next time they make an desert expansion with a matching new tutorial...

...on the other hand, the same arguments against also apply. Western skyrim nords not being part of the pact, or summerset still being closed until Ayrenns decree and this isolationistic while Auridion is sort of the transfer point bwteen them and the rest of the dominion... etc.

In the end, we are just juggling possibilities here, in the slim hope someone at ZOS might think we could be onto something and talks to the others and eventually someone adds something inspired by our thoughts, so its really not much use arguing too much about the details :p;)

    No.
NO. I don't stay on the Character select screen long enough to care what the background is.

Why add even more load to the server then it already has? People are already concerned about bad server performance and now lets add more performance hit by playing the, "Switch Character Game", on the select screen to look at all the different screens.

No thank you. The game to play is past the select screen.

It would be cool to have a background based on the location you last visited (logged out from).

You do understand the load screen is client side, right? The server already sends back a variable to the client telling it what faction your character is. Then the client loads the appropriate background without any further inputs needed from the server.

If anything all that will change is what value the server sends to the client when loading the character. The load will be the same.

I don't mind how they are doing it. The alliance background were stale, and not into "heritage" backgrounds. Our characters are adventurers/travelers, so it would be nice seeing them changed every expansion to what the new expansion is.

OK, there is no option to vote for, so I will just leave a comment.

The best way is having a number of backgrounds in the Collections and selecting them for each character just like personality or non-combat pet. ZOS should add the existing alliance backgrounds to all players. Chapter specific backgrounds can be available for chapter owners.

Other possible backgrounds can be sold in crown store.

    I would *love* this.

Best option would be to create different background for every zone and show character background as zone from which he logged off.

I love the idea of a background allocated to your current location. If there are changeable backgrounds, I'd really love a background that's unlocked when a character maxes out a skill level. That way I can have flaunt my allegiance to the Mages Guild, or the Psijic Monks or watch them in an apothecary

We really need the different backgrounds. When the game logs you randomly out, it's nice to have a different background each time.
