I am sorry but I don't buy this answer and i am sure many others will not either. This is a comment to try to quiet the masses of customers wrongfully accused and banned. As a manager you never tell customers you screwed up because you can open the company up for a lawsuit. Everyone in business knows this and it is a load of crap.

Part of it is human nature, part is just the way you were raised or whatever, but when it comes down to it a very large percentage of people crying wolf when they get caught and punished were justly hit. Sadly as GinoBruno said people do make mistakes, as well as the tools used to assist in the hunt and banning will never be perfect either and hopefully it shouldn't be a giant nightmare for the kid who really wasn't doing anything wrong.

Personally, I'm glad bans are coming down so much that the forums are alight with complainers, because just the day before the forums were alight with people screaming for the banstick against exploiters! ZOS needs to stand hard and strong.

We did ask for a response, you are correct. But I have to ask how all those accounts got banned in such a short space of time yet appealing a ban may take days. Basically it's telling us it takes them seconds to ban your account and hours to investigate if that ban was even justified. I don't even know how they could ban so many accounts in that space of time without some automated support.

It doesn't bring me comfort, or prove to me that support is doing right by its community. It's about time laws changed to hold internet games more accountable for how they treat their clientelle.

You can't ban that many people that quick without using tools. There is something automated in there even if it's only SQL query (or whatever DB tool they use) to report back a yes or no on a duped item. There were automated tools involved. The ban or suspend button may have been pushing by a person, but you can't go through millions of accounts that quickly without automate tools. Any IT guy worth his salt could tell you that.

Yea I know, i'm a developer and I knew instantly roughly how they would detect a duper, and also that my husband would be banned because Zenimax sent him duplicate CE items, thus flagging him. I was correct about him getting banned (I got him out of bed to check) the second I saw the damn posts. Now our easter weekend is ruined by a bug that has gone on since early access.

FWIW, my primary account was hit by the bank bug and I lost 80 slots and tons of gold and items, but I got the resend of the emails. I emptied the emails and stuck all the items on a mule (with the other ones) in my attempt to troubleshoot my hireling emails issue. My primary account was not suspended or banned. I just check again and still there on my mule. See attached SS I just took.

Learn to read. This post isn't about bans. It's about the incorrect SUSPENSIONS and what people need to get started on doing to get their accounts fixed. I've done IT professionally for 18 years and yes, users lie. Good job comparing apples to school buses.

Thanks for the update but from your words I see it is more serious than if was just an automated error.

Can someone explain me how I can be manually "suspended" if:

    - I haven't sold (guild stores), traded, *mailed any item ingame.
    - I've have never joined any guild.
    - I've have never spammed the chat. In fact barely I speak in chat because as an experienced player I know that it could expose me to abuse of false reports.
    - I have not harassed, disrupted anyone.
    - I have not false reported anyone except bots in dungeons, goldspammers, and mail spams.
    - I haven't used any automated software nor any macro (I have a Razer Naga Epic mouse).
    - I haven't experienced any bugs like skyfalling, items dissapearing or bank slots dissapearing.
    - I haven't duped anything not even accidentally.
    - I'm not even "rich" ingame. The total amount of gold I have should be less than 10k.
    - For the above reason, I haven't maxed the inventory bags or the shared bank (that could be suspicious) .
    - I don't have any massive amount of crafting materials. All of them are due of playing 4 characters to lvl 15.
    - My other 4 characters are just working as bank mules in their respective professions. (I planned playing them in the future). I log them often to distribute the items I get while questing/exploring.
    - The addons I used are most for inventory management: InventoryInsight, ResearchAssistant, SousChef, LootDrop, InventoryMod; Librarian for books. None of these could be considered "cheating"

Sorry, but I'm out of ideas that could flag my account as suspicious. Hence banned for playing normally.

Yes I followed the appeal. This is my reference code 140418-078800.

*/edit I just remembered that I've sent some lockpicks to someone and 3 crafted bows to another player for free who asked for them in zone chat.

I think this system may need some tweaking. Currently in my zone there are 5 spammers in a row and the reporting system appears to be not functioning, or is being overloaded.

I receive the following message in the reporting window: 'There has been an error with your request' (in tiny black font that is very difficult to read)

*Actually seems like there are more gold spammers then normal now.

This begs more questions, the main one being these people have been given no reason for their ban and the three I know haven't had any e-mails or reply to their tickets. They've not been told what they supposedly did.

The fact it was manual actually makes it worse. I'm sure some of those protesting loudly will have been involved in 'exploiting' and this happens on all games and I've never seen the flood of reports as we're seeing here.

Is there some other exploit that large numbers of people knew about? Possibly, though if there was there's been no hint of it.

Most likely these folks (a) have been selected based on false criteria or (b) have been doing something that patently isn't obviously an 'exploit'.

You know they are still deducting game time from suspended accounts right? Plus people aren't asking for compensation. They are trying to establish why they no longer have access to the goods they purchased less than a month ago.

I can not believe that these bans are all actually handled by people. There have been no emails at all. So many of the stories I see and have personally experienced seem to be silly.

My husband for example. We play together. Neither of us really plays alone. We are in some guilds, but we do not have the permissions to use the guild banks due to social members and what not. We do not hack. We do however tradeskill. He and I give each other mats (I get all the metal working and enchanting, he gets all the wood and cloth/leather). We use the mail system a lot since space is limited and we had been scared to buy bank space due to that bug. We have been trying to sell our mats (stacks of ingots, cloth, green crafting components). I think we have bought a few on level purple items to help us level. No where in any of that is something that I see as bannable. We can't even fight this if you won't even send an email saying what is wrong. And the email we did get asked us for credit card information and the secret question answer (which sounded really sketchy).

We really wanted to play this game. We really did. I am fairly upset about the possibility that we might give it up. I love TESO. I pushed him to get the game. We both have some disabilities that make it hard to do other activities so we were excited at a game we could both love and do together for entertainment. Now it seems I might need to see if there is a way to get a refund. Not even a full month, and now our Imperial Editions are worthless?

First of all I didn't get anything wrong. I speculated in a followup comment to someone else about what might have happened to some people. That had nothing to do with my original post. And for a mod to come in here and all bans were done manually doesn't mean that automated tools weren't used. If the mod had said that I would have immediately jumped on that and thrown the BS flag. You can't examine millions of account without automated tools. PERIOD. It's not possible.

Looking at the forums here and on other sides makes it clear that a major problem happened. I hope that you've escalated this to those in charge of the process.

No. People like you dont seem to understand. The reason this *seems* like a huge problem is because ZoS does not issue forum bans to coincide with game bans. Every other mainstream MMO in existence links your forum account to your game account so the negative PR cant happen. What we have on these forums is an incredible vocal minority making a problem much larger than it actually is. 99% of the people playing the game would've never known about this ban wave had ZoS done what every other company does and banned the forum accounts too.

No one here, on these forums, is going to admit guilt. If there's a sliver of hope they can get away with it, they'll scream from the rooftops about how they've been wronged.

Like I said before, there's a reason Blizzard does ban waves by the 100,000's and no one ever hears about it unless they make a public statement. Because those people have their voice taken away so they cant slander and lie publicly, and for the very small number that get caught in the crossfire and wrongfully banned, they call customer service and get it sorted out - which is what you have to do in this case anyway. The whole PR hit is entirely unnecessary.

I have a similar issue. My husband was suspended today. There is no sense to this suspension. His only crime seems to be a lot of time to play the game. Most of his time is spent legitimately farming mats for crafting and selling excess in world chat. How is this against the ToS?

I've canceled our family's other two subscriptions until this company can figure out what they are doing. I've been on the fan boy band wagon until now. The launch was smoother then any other I have ever seen and there will always be bugs, but an unsubstantiated suspension does not warrant my support through a monthly fee on top of the $240+ for three collectors editions we've already payed. I just can't see investing time and money in a game where we need to fear bugs that wipe a players inventory or suspend when there is no clear reason or data to support it.

So you're saying I'm slandering and lying here in my post? This post that describes what happened to me and encourages people to call support? Just like you said people who are caught in unfairly in stuff do? Hrmm interesting.

People like you need to stop comparing Amateur Hour at Zenimax to Blizzard. Blizzard has over a decade of experience and runs a dedicated anticheating code that is amazingly advanced. Zenimax doesn't have anywhere near the tools or experience that Blizzard has and as such there is no comparison.
