New Hybrid Build Viability?

So what's everyone's take on the status of hybrid builds with the new changes to Light Attacks scaling off of your highest offensive resources?

IMO, that's a great change, but there's still the problem of the Light Attacks returning Stamina or Magicka based upon weapon type.

Perhaps a better solution would be to have the type of resource that is returned should also be determined by your max stats OR at least provide sets or skills that could allow the mapping to be changed.

Even without that though, it makes using Swords / Greatswords more useful for melee Magicka builds in PvP (and PvE?) and possibly providing new options for Stamina characters as well.

Thoughts?

Hybrid builds can be used for easier content (normal dungeons, questing, etc) but will never be viable under the current stat system. In PvP you can do alright with one though (especially no-CP). The issue with hybrids is:
    • Maximum Stamina, Weapon Damage, Weapon Critical increase the effectiveness of Stamina skills. We also have very strong *Stamina only* sets
    • Maximum Magicka, Spell Damage, Spell Critical increase the effectiveness of Magicka skills. We also have very strong *Magicka only* sets
    • Champion Points buff either Stamina or Magicka skills - you have to split your point allocation to buff both.

With that said, we do have New Moon Acolyte which is good for hybrids. Pelinal’s is also good and would be a lot better if it raised Spell/Weapon critical chances too ( 5x medium with Pelinal’s and stack into Weapon Damage for max benefit btw).

Definitely won’t see good hybrids in PvE anytime soon.

Literally nothing is going to change for players who play hybrid/off-meta builds and/or don't do much LA weaving anyway. These players should also be mad, because their DPS isn't going to change much, nor is the harder content going to be ANY easier for them. The high DPS players are getting screwed and the rest are getting nothing. We should ALL be upset...

This is definitely what interests me most about the proposed changes (well, other than LA/HA finally making sense on a more general level). I'm not sure what the solution is to the resource restoration issue for characters who use the "wrong" weapon type, though. Honestly, if they would release a magicka-melee weapon line already that would go a long way. In any case, it opens up some new and interesting creative possibilities and will make me feel less punished for going outside of the box... haha.

I really like the new changes and hope it makes it into live.

That said I do agree and hope there are some magicka based skills, or magic attacks for elemental that is like overload (with no weapon) or the psijic healing skill as I do not enjoy using staves.

I agree with most of your points but I do wonder if using Swords on Magicka PvE characters can be possible (similar to how it is for PvP) since you'd be using Magicka abilities and get to use those same stats for Light Attacks.

That used to be the huge problem but now the only issue is that you wouldn't get any relevant extra sustain from the LAs. However, if you were sustaining fine before the change, that should not be an issue.

You would lose out of the Staff passives but those are weak anyway, the only semi-important one would be Elemental Force but you would still have that on your backbar. And even if you had slightly less Burning uptime, it would likely be offset by the flat 6% boost rendered from the Swords.
