What happens to all the gold?

Where does all the gold from bounties, wayshrine travel and the auction house fees go?

Does Pacrooti steal it?
Do the devs get to have all the gold for their characters?
Does it whoosh out of existence?
Is it poured back into the random items located through the world?

It would be cool to win some of it.

The point of all of those is to be a gold sink, i.e. to make the gold vanish. Gold is created out of thin air every time someone loots some from a baddie, turns in a quest, vendors trash, etc. If it is not removed somehow it will start losing its value (because everyone will have so much of it) until every tiny crafting material costs millions. As it is, those gold sinks are probably too few, since their use is entirely optional and there are activities in the game that practically let you print money.

It is just a typical MMORPG gold sync. No one gets any of it.

it goes back into the pockets of npc's that you kill/rob/sell things to/do quests for when you are making your gold. so that they could keep paying all those countless adventurers.

There is an in game answer for the wayshrines. The mages guild uses it to fund their expeditions.
Auction house taxes go to your guild. Or you mean the bids? Those go to fund infrastructure like roads and social safety nets like all the public/boarding schools Tamriel’s children attend.

Actually lore-wise I felt for a long time that things like wayshrines and re-setting cp points somehow magically went to temples, because of how the areas to reset morphs and skills are "shrines" and travel is "wayshrines."

I've had trouble staying immersed with that idea ever since the outfit station showed up, though, and I didn't realize until all the guild trader stuff that the guilds didn't get all the money.

In actuality yes it whooshes out of existence. :D

Shortly after the formation of the Ebonheart Pact, a Nord woman was given a tour of the Tribunal Temple. When later asked about the experience, she seemed upset. Suffice to say, the Dunmer were not pleased to hear this, and thus they inquired further.
"Well," the Nord frowned, "the priests were very angry and unwelcoming. They kept shouting things at me like "you can't drink that mead in here!" and "somebody stop her, she's running naked!" and "we can't catch her; she's covered in grease!""

Good question. Certified lore expert here, with answers.

    1. Bounty gold pays for the immortality potions that town guards use
    2. Wayshrines do not cost gold, they simply are imperfect. Better to leave behind a few bags of coin than a few toes
    3. Auction house fees go to your GM, who spends them on tabard upgrades
    4. Mail attachment fees pay the (mostly) hard-working mail scamps
    5. Losing auction house bids pay for traders' union dues in their push for Daedric invasion insurance
    6. Armor repair gold pays the enchanters to keep quiet about the armor repair racket, which in turn funds the soul gem racket
    7. Outfit gold is part of Hermaeus Mora's schemes. He mostly invests it in rigged Decorative Wax shorts, saving money to become relevant again
    8. There actually are no attribute reset shrine fees. People just sorta assume there are, and nobody takes the gold because it looks like it must belong to someone
    9. Skill reset shrine fees pay for the vampiric Clan Dhevzs' ban on crossbows, spears, and mystic staves

Only a portion of the tax for selling at a Guild Trader goes to the guild. There is a small percentage that simply disappears into the void.
