Just because your path to speedtest, or Netflix, is good. Doesn't mean the path to ESO's download server is. You can have worse download speed without it being "ZOS is deliberately throttling me, specifically!"

I live in the US, on the east coast, and I'm having a similar problem- I've been downloading for hours and it's only at 8%. Then again, my game is on steam, and it could be an issue there. But the rest of my internet is fine, and usually my download speed is not this abominable. I'm not really certain whats going on myself, other than that there is incredibly high traffic right now, and while some seem to be downloading quickly, others aren't.

For example, within the same household, one of us was able to download the game within an hour, while I'm still at a crawl. Again, my download speed is never this bad, so not sure what the issue is.

See... That's what's confusing. So it's not my region, and that's good! First helpful piece of info anyone gives me. But what could it be then? On your side it's also clearly not the isp.

My ISP isn't a zos problem but my country/region is. They sell the game here, they have to support it properly. How I'll play it, it's my problem only, agreed, but if they wanted to sell to me, they have to do it right.

The first 20% or so is the actual large file update.

Then it installs the game, and it will speed up significantly.

It might then download some "mini-patches" to complete the installation.

Once you hit that 20%, on a normal, clean install, you're like 80% of the way done with the installation!

No idea on the "throttling", but it could be any number of things causing the connection to be slower, things that may be completely and utterly out of yours, mine, or ZoS's control. Speedtest goes to a close, local server, so if there's an issue, it wouldn't detect that. I'm not at home, but can you force a speedtest to a more remote server? Say one in the US, instead of one in Brazil?

I didn't me specifically, as in zonasarch, but as an off region player. We all know that routing is poop on this game to the point that from Brazil, I have the same latency to EU or NA and this is the only game this happens. NA is always MUCH faster ping. Either way, there's absolutely nothing I can do, but everyone whines here, so I'm joining.

This is a piece of crap experience that's totally unheard of. I've been playing this game for years, downloaded it many times, and never had issues like this.

100 mbps is 12.5 MB/s. Thats at prime with NO ONE on the internet DOING ANYTHING.

Oh ok, so you're at 7x my speed right now, that's 15mbos or 1.7MBps.

Clear? My download is now at 200KBps. So about 60 slower than your 12.5MBps.

I hope you understand now. All the rest of my bandwidth is freely available. If I play Netflix in 4k, it goes smoothly, I tested. But after shutting down the movie, speed on launcher doesn't go up.

Just give it time, close everything, even your browser. 1.7MB is bad, and chrome/edge, etc all will EAT it, especially chrome.

LMAO, the entitlement of this thread... having a big ol’ cry because it’s taking you a while to download the game on a patch day, while those of us who used to enjoy PVPing on console have been driven away from ESO due to constant crashing, lag, and insane FPS drops.

Your ISP could be throttling you. They could have brokered a deal with Netflix to allow more bandwidth for their service. You can run speed tests to you burn out your computer, doesn't mean that's what you can expect on demand.

I don't know what the Net Neutrality laws are in Brazil, but this could be it as well. That some providers can pay to have their services get higher priority.

It's a hard drive, but supposedly it's working fine. Put in a heavy load using diskmark and speeds came out as expected. I can also download other files at full speed. Only thing I cannot test is ZOS side of the connection.

And right now it just went down to 30KBps, instead if the 200 before or the max 1.7MBps. I'm about to give up.

Seeing all my friends downloading the game at full freaking speed while I have to see my download throttle to 200KB/s when it can go up to 1.7MB/s...

That's 1/8 if my top speed, that's already SUPER slow... Why am I being throttled? Because I'm not in the US? Second class consumer? I'm paying 62 bucks a month for this piece of software. Not 15. Take that into consideration and tell me why my downloads are so slow? My launcher has been opened all day and it's just now at 15%!

I've used speedtest on multiple devices to check my speed and everything is ok on my isp side. On my friends in the US, all is good too, so it's definitely your poopy service that's at fault, ZOS. I'm paying an excruciatingly expensive monthly bill to play this game. What kind of service is this?

Don't give me "server load" bs because, like I said, all my friends in the US are having it full speed, some even ten times as fast or more than my Max speed, let alone my currently throttled speed.

This is a shame, it's frustrating and disgusting.

dude do what i do...copy your friends the files and paste it into the folder..Not that hard bro.. always have a removable hdd...

I know... I was expecting 15-20 hours to get all done, because that's how long the PTS took. Bad, but doable. Right now, I'm looking at almost an entire week... 5-7 days. DAYS. HAHA

With the toxicity in this thread I am surprised it isn't locked.

Don't worry you aren't the only one having problems. The problem for me was the PTS section of the game apparently caused a bug with the launcher even though it wasn't updating. Moved the PTS folder out of the ESO file tree and the problem stopped.

My guess is that the launcher looks for the files without checking if its PTS or Live and it bugs the launcher and update process completely resulting in slow speed, mysterious errors that lead to redownloading the same thing, etc.

If I were you I would try:

    1. Disabling Windows Update service to make sure its not the cause of your slow download first
    2. If you have the PTS downloaded, pause the download, exit launcher , then move the PTS folder out of the directory where you have ESO installed, restart it and see if it helps (worked for me and increased download speed + removed stupid file errors)

    Good luck patching...

I got gigablast (what my isp calls it’s fiber optic option). It’s advertised at 940 mbs. I speed tested it the day before yesterday. It was like 500 or so with Apple TV running a movie and my phone connected and a movie streaming on the computer while running the test.

With everything off the network and my computer running just the test it was a consistent 930mbps. Close enough to advertised. During the download of the patch my download speed varied fro 27 to 50 mbps depending on what part was being downloaded. The final 20% was close to 100mps for a few seconds. Zipped along.

My point is I got fiber optic cable JUST for stuff like this. So I could download games faster. Worth it.

That isn't even enough bandwidth for 4k to stream properly. You're actively complaining in this thread about zos and internet when it's clearly the country you live in that is the issue and nothing else. You literally have nothing on your side to complain about but where YOU live.

Zos is not throttling you. If you think about it then it would not make sense for them to throttle you and not your friends. Why would they single you out?

There is a lot that factors into the speed each of us downloads the game. Ironically, the speed we pay our provider for has nothing to do with it as none of us downloaded the patch near our top speed.

In some countries including Brazil, there are some ISP's that have "fair usage policy" implemented, but the name is lie, basically the thruth is if their infrastructure flag particular connection as Torrent, or peer to peer and even big downloads, it will throttle the speed significantly.
I'm not saying it is the case but still.

    See here:
    https://wiki.vuze.com/w/Bad_ISPs

Why don't you call ISP anyway, that is the first step to resolve the issue.
