I have never felt so anonymous in a game

    oh god, again with Immersion.

AGAIN, IF IT IS A TOGGLE WHAT IS THE BLOODY PROBLEM?
WHAT I WANT DISPLAYED ON MY SCREEN IS MY BLOODY PREROGATIVE!

How exactly is ESO 'immersive' when you have endless gold spam, bots camping dungeon delve bosses, no way to identify anyone, everyone is a special snow flake, everyone is doing the exact same quests as you, others talking crap etc etc

Want immersion go back to your single player TES games. The only reason ESO is lacking and fundamentally flawed as a MMORPG (which it's being marketed as and not a single player mmo) is because of blinkered immersion purists who don't have the slightest idea what MMORPG means.
MMORPG's are not designed around immersion.

If you have a tiny bit of MMO experience you will understand that nothing is optional if it gives you a performance boost in groups.

    Just think about it...

I did and you are wrong.

They are not asking to see nameplates above enemies. Just friends and npcs.

    So, there is no advantage.

@JS83 the nameplates would be for friends and NPCs, not enemies.

Although I don't feel any need for nameplates , I don't care if the option is added.

BUT correct me if I'm wrong, the main point is to be able to recognize Guildies and friends.
So maybe we can investigate another way to recognize them whitout nameplates ?
For example Guild Tabards are great for this (If I remember well, tabards will be added to the game)

If the tabard is distinctive enough, you could in just a second catch that there's a guild member around, then you will mouseover him to have his name
"Hey it's you Mike, hi, wanna go guesting around with me ?"

There may be other options to achieve the same goal... no?

    I will keep repeating.

What is wrong with a nameplate OPTION for non PVP only ?

    Absolutely nothing.

Even in PvP, as long as it is just allies and NPCs, it is still all good.

Anoteros, calm down, you (or I, or anyone) have no prerogatives here to demand one thing or another. They created a game, you bought it. You don't like it, you stop playing, that is your one and only prerogative.

    Nameplates for enemies too.
I seriously cannot see the problem in knowing who you're fighting and being able to identify them easily.

Of course, and we all are asking. That post, however, was not "asking", it was more of an angry demand.

    +Agree with OP.
I dungeon crawl a lot with a small group of guildies, but if you put them in a crowd and asked me to pick them out, I would struggle. Nameplates exist for a reason and have been used in practically every MMO for that very reason.

Solution - Make nameplates a toggle option.

Making it a toggle and also letting people hide their own nameplate is a middle of the road option, though of course it won't satisfy those in either group who want it all their way.

I disagree. I don't want nameplates, chat bubbles etc. I know my guild members and talk to them and quest with them. That's fine with me.

Yep, I like it aswell how it is But I want names showing up. Thats all.

    +1 for nameplates.

If I see the same player around a lot I am more likely to group with them etc as they have the same playtimes as me.

As it is right now: for all I know I could have been seeing the same players from level 1 through 50 in all my zones or different people every single time. There is less "community" are more of a sense of a single player game as a result.

I don't understand the immersion argument. A HP bar and a faction icon are ok, but not nameplates? I could live without the names, but no way to display guild colors or anything like that in PvP really takes away from the experience. What is the point of an MMO that plays like a single player game?

Another "nameplate" post. Please fill this forum with garbage and, maybe, they will transform this special mmorpg in one ordinary mmo so we all can rage about how common this game is and, finally, leave for another new mmo[rpg].
If something is not broke ... fix it!

I support options for nameplates (hiding/showing for me and others).

And a somewhat off-topic but simple tip for increased immersion:
Whenever you log in on a char the first chat tab is always active - change its settings to NOT show zone chat (but everything else). Then make a second tab that shows zone chat. This means you will never see the bs and coloured text and gold sellers and other spam, unless you actively click that tab.

Staying out of zone chat seems to have another benefit: the two new chars I made on the EU server have never talked in zone chat - and they don't receive any mail from gold sellers.

Vote immersion for hate word of ESO.
I am tempted to quote real live references in zone just to troll
This also is the curse of megaserver, a roleplay server with a different ruleset would solve a lot of these problems.

I'd like to have nameplates as an option. Personally I'd only switch them on for raiding or only for my group, and when trying to report gold farmers, as a screenshot with names on would be far more effective than trying to mouse over a group of stacked characters to write down their names on paper to then transfer to a report page.

I find the lack of name and guild tags a bit frustrating at times. An option to turn them on and off would be great.

Saying there is no negative to having names is not a fact, it is your opinion and I've many friends who are very comfortable with their 'anonymity'

You will have to explain this one.
they just like the option of hopping in game for what ever their selection is for the day - PvP, a little RPing, questing with a friend or jumping in a group with guildies or p-u-g's. All of the things mentioned in my previous sentence WOULD be affected if name plates were on. EVEN if an individual can turn them 'off' for themselves... it allows identification by other people of YOU if they have theirs turned on.

How? How would it affect them?

People can mouse over you and see your name. So.... please explain.
But as for name plates, eh. I'm good just the way it is unless the change has to do with encouraging Guild identification and loyalty!

Try to get this. It is not all about you. you might want to try to think of others. They might want name plates. This does not affect you.

Sorry I've not had enough fun time this week to play much or get on the forums!

The reason it affects me (*not me really ;o) but those against it) is because they don't want their various alts 'identified' in an immediate way. This holds true for rper's as well as players who never rp.

If they don't have their option turned on but you do - you (*or the vile goldspammers) can see their name, you could for instance be more likely to send them a tell, or rp wise you can 'know' something about them without any sort of interaction.

If you want to know someone's name, or about a piece of gear they are wearing or which guild they are in -- why not ask them in /say? Or like in real life, see who they're talking and interacting with and snoop it out that way etc. If you are wanting plates on for nefarious reasons, you probs should figure out some other way to infiltrate rival guilds, of which there are lots of better solutions ie voice comming on an alt ^-^.

We come back then to the point that you can in fact mouse over them and see their name. Why is that so inconvenient? Speed is not the definition of convenience. Accessibility generally is the part of convenience. And accessibility is there, via using your mouse-over option.

When you see someone in parked near you with a great car but you aren't sure of the make etc - wouldn't you casually intro yourself and maybe ask them about the model of it? Make small talk? This option affects immersion as well as player interaction. It removes a step that is in that process.

There are many people who literally play with the chat box off, or do not join in zone chat, only speaking in their guilds or even primarily to another person they play with. That is the fun they have with no name plates.

A third reason might be families with kiddo's who play with a parent also. The kids are not six, but even if I had a fourteen year old son play with me, I'd not want him exposed to the general population honestly lol. I'd probably have him participate primarily only in guild chat and in guild groups etc. If I am grouping up with friends irl -- they really are all I care about for that time and space...I have no need to 'see' everyones nameplate in the entire vicinity of wherever I am.

Finally, I'm fairly certain that pertaining to the game, nameplates always on, definitely creates more lag, and especially so in certain situations.

    Regards,
    Anastasia

+1 vote for a name plate toggle! Just a simple character name + guild would suffice.

Actually I'm surprised nobody has made a mod for this yet.. I guess it's not possible?
