You do realize you don't have to be a stormcaller mage in light armor for every situation, right? You can have alternative builds. You could go heavy armor sword and board with a resto staff offhand. You could also go with medium armor, bow and two pets (hunter sorc ftw).
The combat in the game is built around being able to change your build to fight your foe. Being a stormcaller mage when running around with your friend is great. But you can also create a much more sustainable build for doing solo missions.
Seriously, what is with all the "you suck go play another MMO" replies?? The OP stated that they played with a friend for most of their game time only to be forced to play solo on a boss.
Depending on your current build, it may actually take a fair attempts to figure a strategy or ask for help on the forums from those that have killed it. It actually took until the 15th post for someone to post a useful strategy rather than posting how awesome they are can they can do it first time (woopee doo!! well done you!)
I had troubles killing Doshia (Anchors from the harbor) - died around 5/6 times before figuring out the strategy and killing her easily. It was a different scenario that I was used to and wasnt expecting it to be difficult at first - it turned out the following day, that a patch actually reduced Doshia's power output! (typical!!)
The point of this post is for some people to grow up and provide constructive feedback rather than just replying saying 'go play another game' lol.
Also, the game is designed to play how "I" want to play - If I want to specialise in honing my skills down one skill tree - why would I be forced to branch across several areas just so I can adapt for several bosses?
