Not the best solution. It hasn't always been that way.

The thing is, the assassin playstyle usually comes with long cooldowns with it in most games. That is to say, when you use these abilities, and delete someone, then that's it for a few minutes. In ESO, ganking does not work this way. Thus they have to find other ways to balance this playstyle.

My suggestion is a debuff that gives the ganker an outline for 30s that prevents complete stealth/invisibility similar to Chameleon. It would trigger 15s after your first attack after coming out cloak/stealth and last around 30s. (Maybe higher ranks could improve these timers)

This would allow gankers to gank, but put a cooldown on it. They wouldn't be able to do it with impunity. But if you don't beat them quick enough the cooldown ends and they get away to do it again.

That's the biggest brain fart out here.
It would make ganking the ONLY playstyle, NBs are already the absolute worst in a group play, with this change they would be targeted and deleted instantly with no chance to survive. Now there is at least some hope that cloak would work.

I was aware when I made this thread that Nightblade currently has many deficiencies that need addressing, particularly in PvP. Some may even be far more crucial at the moment.

I also knew that even talking about changes involving Cloak will be perceived by those that hate it as a buff, and those that live by it as a nerf. But after playing this class religiously for years, I can say to those that also enjoy the "assassin/rogue" gameplay that I have only good intentions for the skill.

I still stand by my suggestion and believe it has merit.

It could potentially become applicable to PvE tanks for one. And I see it as also allowing Nightblades in PvP to maintain their offensive robustness while achieving a level of necessary and fair survivability.

I do recognize that it might make Dark Cloak less enticing and would somewhat hinder bombers and snipers.

I don't have any expectations nor do I have much faith that this skill will be changed in a positive manner. I simply have passion for this style of gameplay - as cowardly, cheap, toxic, [fill in the blank] as it's labeled.

That's kind of a horrible idea. Sure, add a cooldown and it might add to balancing but ESO isn't like SWTOR with cooldowns - Streak being an exception, and one or two other things. Once you take away the usage of cloak from a NB, they're pretty much dead in the water since crouch is pretty unreliable, and worse than cloak

About crouch. I've never been able to figure out what was actually wrong with it. Sometimes if you move away from an enemy far enough, by the time the cloak fades, you're crouching with the visibility eye closed, even if you're in combat state. More often the eye stays open for a minute or more even if there is no one around.

Cloak isn't the main defense for the class. Especially not for stamnb. Magnb idk, maybe, even tho shields, shadow image and heals are waaay more important than invisibility. For stamnb, dodges come first, then shadow image and lastly cloak. I guess there is a more fundamental issue here, and it's not in the skill.

Here's an idea: nerf cloak and buff your damage, remove cast time from incap, and delay on bow proc.

Tbh, easy way to nerf cloak: If you get revealed by an AoE, you can't cloak back for 3s. Good NBs won't feel the difference a much, and it will eliminate the issue with NB being that annoying mosquito you can't quite catch (or spam aoe until you kill him which is boring as well).

I mean honestly I don't think it needs nerfs but I can see why ZOS would nerf it because the casuals/new players can get annoyed by invis mechanic.

Just buff our damage so we can get competitive again, pretty please?

Yeah sure give NBs a tool to get invisible AND heal, seems fair to me. NBs are already absolutely annoying in PvP, they can't do more but Cloak->Attack->Cloak->Attack, without a detection potion, Mageslight or Hunter (Which never works btw) you are screwed and can very well leave the fight, no point in endless hunting especially because the NB can also just port around AND heal with Momentum inside cloak without getting open again.

Yep. It is the last thing left that makes Nightblade... a Nightblade.
If they will pull the same stuff with cloak / invisibility as they did with fear - by adding it commonly available for other classes (Turn Evil skill), then there will simply be no reason to roll NB.

I'd like to see this skill revamped. Many people would like to see it eliminated completely but the reality is that it's a shadow of what it once was.

There are many counters and when they are used, it shuts the skill down essentially making the main defense for Nightblades irrelevant.

My idea could potentially benefit this skill in both PvP and PvE, meaning it might actually be desired by tanks.

        And it's pretty simple:

First, remove the guaranteed "first attack will crit" as a tradeoff for a new request. If you feel there is a strong argument for keeping this feature, please speak out. In my opinion, it is not beneficial enough and is holding the class back.

Second, change it so when you are revealed you receive a defensive buff, armor mitigation, or even a heal. I'd be open to anything that will improve survival.

Obviously not every build would come out unscathed by this change (i.e. bombers, Snipers, etc.). Would it kill these builds? Would it make the class overall better going forward? Thoughts please.

Honestly, i think first hit crits from sneak should be guaranteed for everybody, and that auxiliary effect be replaced with minor expedition to make it a mobility tool. A TRUE escape and ambush tool. I think that would be balanced and give zos a little more flexibility to buff nightblade in other areas without everybody losing their minds.

But unless they buff sneak across the board like that i think shadowy disguise just needs to be left alone. It is the only nightblade skill that feels good right now. The class needs attention in other areas.

Well i don't mind losing the crit for another bonus, example if we move the ms speed from concealed to cloak.
It will be different than dark cloak which is pure defense and more of a utility tool.
I said MS but can be anything usefull that is not damage oriented.

Since apparently for less experienced player the crit from cloak is guaranted death if we replace it we can buff NB in other area's aswell.

Might be one of the step to balance the class for both new/less experienced player and veteran of the game.

Don't rely on cloak as your "main defense"

        Solved your problem

Pretty much this in nutshell. With all the unblockable undodgeable and aoe skills now only good nightblades and or ones with good ping are worth anything in cyrodiil. You must build more defense and not rely solely on cloak. That being said I've been having a blast the last few days on my glass cannon cloakblade xD
