I am serious, I actually like lightning staff while soloing stuff. But when I tried my dps got lower significantly.
How do you manage it?
Magsorc btw
Why are lightening staves not for dps?

@O_LYKOS Mostly because Lightning Wall doesn’t get the Flame Wall’s 20% bonus damage against Burning enemies. With an Inferno Staff both Wall and Light Attacks can also get a 10% damage increase from a DK using Engulfing Flames, but there is no equivalent debuff for more Shock Damage (there should be, please ZOS). Even for a Sorc with 5% increased Shock damage it doesn’t come close to the 30% extra on Fire.
There is also the issue of Inferno’s 8% boost to single target vs Lightning’s 8% boost to AoE, but comparing these is highly dependent on build, so no universal statements can be made for this passive. The Inferno will make Light Attacks hit 8% harder (on top of the 10% from Engulfing), and for most of the high end DPS builds Light Attacks make up a large % of DPS.
Lightning has a better heavy attack, nobody denies that, but heavy attack builds do not pull competitive DPS (it’s passable for some content, but objectively lower than Light Attack builds). Lightning Wall also has the bonus effect of causing off-balance, but one healer or tank can take care of this, so all the DD’s can use the superior Inferno Staff.
wow 4 whole pages on another
play as you want but not in group content thread

Thank you for clarifying. So on my nightblade DD i should switch to two flames but i'm ok with my lightning on my healers.

If your destro is front bar you are DD with resto. If your front bar is resto then you are a healer with a DD bar. BUT...
If you have destro on the front bar and heal gear with resto on the back bar, then you are a hybrid healer that moonlights as a DPS. And if you have resto on the front bar with DPS gear and destro on the back bar then you are a hybrid DD moonlighting as...
....
* 2 hrs and 49 minutes
* 18,248 words
* 27 graphs
* 11 pie charts
* 4 spreadsheets
* 1 bathroom break
* and an 18 minute short film later....
...In conclusion, its not about how we are equipped, but how we use it. As i explained using graph 5C, as we make our box smaller and smaller, there is less room to use our staff. So we really need to stop trying to put ourselves in boxes and just let our staves fly free and shine bright!

I fail to see why it is any of my beeswax what any other player chooses for arms or armor. They may be role playing or leveling a skill. Perchance they are a completionist. They are enjoying playing the game their way. More power to them!

Lightning staves are not an effective DPS weapon because the increase aoe damage by 8% as opposed to inferno which increases single target damage. Surely that's not changed on whatever platform you play on? In addition concussion and off balance is not as consistent as burning.
Aoe damage does not contribute to dps apparently... who knew!
fyi, I have concussion/off balance up all the time on my magsorc.
.
Aoes are not as significant a contributor to DPS as single target abilities are. You gain more by using an inferno and buffing single target damage. Even in fights that have multiple targets. And no. Your lightning staff toting sorc doesn't have off balance and concussion up all the time have because they havea fairly long cool down. But hey play as you want and all that.

could be a healer that is soloing.
