Stop with the blanket statements... Not all MMO's require cc/subs up front... Some do, some don't... WOW, and LOTRO didn't require it from me, but I purchased from them direct (digital copies)... Maybe they were sensible and realized that if I bought from them with a cc that completed the game purchase, my card was valid, and let me play the free time before setting up a sub... I think the issue most people are having is that they've paid for the game, they should be allowed to actually play, prior to having to pay anything else. And to those that say it's only a pre-auth, yes and no. It is a charge. Period. it shows up on your card/statement.... That it reverses later... (1,2,3 days, or 2-3 weeks later doesn't matter....) it IS a charge on your card until reversed.

Just to bring it into the realm of the absurd... Would you not be annoyed if you bought and PAID for a new car, and the dealership told you, you couldn't drive it off the lot until they pre-authorized you the first service charge....?

Since LOTRO went f2p they stoped requring a cc and sub set up to play . However when it launched as a sub game it did. WoW stopped it when it went F2P for the first 20 lvls. Again when WoW launched as a sub game they also required the sub to be set up prior to play. So again all non F2P MMO's require and have always, since EQ, required sub to be set up prior to playing.

Must have a valid payment method or game time card for the subscription yes, but nowhere does it say you must set up a subscription plan or add a game time card to be allowed to play for 30 days you already paid for.

They are literally denying you for the 30 days they said was free unless you submit to a subscription plan of some sort first.

Its like buying a candy bar and then have them tell you that they must make sure you have money now to pay for another one later on in case you might want another one later on.
It makes absolutely no sense at all.

it says it right on the dam box and on all the web pages
"Valid payment method or paid game time card for subscription and persistent internet connection required"

To all of you who are complaining.. REALLY ppl every Pay to play mmo i have EVER played since ultima online has had this same verification and card needed to claim 30 day free. even WoW when it came out. Get a green dot pre paid card with 20 bucks loaded on it and it will solve your problem. You will have the 14.99 pulled then returned within 2-3 days. I don't see why people cry about it i even looked at my collectors edition BOX and it says "30 day free requires valid payment option and internet connection" meaning you have to add a valid payment option -_-.

Not true, pretty much all subscription based games have worked the same way. You have to setup the subscription at the beginning.

    Define 'all', please...

So again all non F2P MMO's require and have always, since EQ, required sub to be set up prior to playing.

Just some comments to the 'all mmos do this' crowd:

When I started playing mmos, it was with EQ1 in I think 2003 or 2004. I had no real clue about any online game, but wanted to try. So I went to the shop, bought a game box, installed it, created an account - and in the game I was.

There was no need whatsoever to link a credit card at account creation time, or to set up a subscription plan. The account info immediately said something along the line '30 days of gameplay left', and just gave the information that if I want to continue playing after that I'd have to set up a subscription.

All games that I played since I subscribed from the get go, so can't comment about them. But it is untrue that it is unheard of to just get the 30 days without any prior subscription setup.

Been playing WoW since 2005, i didn't not have a credit card back then and it didn't require one to play.

Game time cards were a good way to reach a specific demographic, teenagers without jobs and bank accounts which made a significant portion of the playerbase. Plus i don't know where you live or how developed your country is but 10 years ago credit cards were something exotic around here.
It would have been foolish for games to limit themselves to credit card owners.

Jeez OP just return the game if you can. By the time you finally get in you will be too upset to ever enjoy it.

When you are so angry you have to post things like "And id better be in game tonight" ..... if you do get in the game the first bugged quest or crash is going to give you a stroke.

I do not know one single sub based MMO that does not require this. I can only assume that if you played 10 games that were MMO's over the last 15 years they were all F2P ones. Since the time of EQ every single sub based MMO has required you to set up a subscription prior to receiving your free 30 days play. EQ, DAOC, Shadowbane, COH/COV, EQ2, WoW, DDO (when it was subbased, LOTRO (when it was sub based), STO ( when it was subbased) SWTOR (when it was subbased) to name just a few of the subbased games, all of which required a subscription prior to play, that have come out in the past 15 years.[/quote]

I have played a lot of the games you listed but not one of them actually put a hold on my money before the free 30 days ended. Its the idea of money in my account that I can't use that really irks me.

WoW didn't require this. And I mean 2005 WoW and since. FF14 doesn't require this either.

Maybe this is country related? This is the very first time I have seen this.
