Chat bubbles - do players use them?

I don't use it.
But, I've advice to our newbie to use it when they do hard content together so when someone die it just need to write "REZ" and everyone can see him easily.
And for the moment they love it.

(yes they use the "display player name in group too)

For the chat, I use guild, group and /w.
I've a chan only for all other but I barely look at it since I play mostly with friend and discord.

I always use chat bubbles. The chatlog gets cluttered fast. Sadly eso developed them at a later stage but seems like unfinished. But yeah, I use them and can't live without them.
I also wish they existed IRL

Thanks for all the answers, seems like I came across rude people in my gameplay.

Both opposites have great arguments, I will keep mine bubbles on ofc, but it seems that behaved players comunicate with you either way, bubbles on/off.

I hope we meet in some dungeon or trial

On consoles people use them all the time and they're very visible. It's just more useful to pop a hello when you first get into a dungeon as you can put is on a shortcut wheel. Not everyone has a keyboard connected to their console, so it's easy.

They’re really useful for spotting the dead and post-trials trading, so you can identify the person who wants the stuff you’re giving.

If a dungeon or trial is running right there’s no real need or time for chat and bubbles just get lost in the visual chaos. I’ll say hello in chat and maybe “lf some gear”, hs and chest... occasionally go through mechanics with new players. But bubbles don’t aid any of that really.

Outside group content, if I’m interacting with others it will be text chat and disco and chances are we’re not in the same place in game anyway.

I came from WoW, where chat bubbles are on by default. I switched them on in ESO as well, since I find it more convenient to see chat in front of me in game, while I still play, do dps, dodge etc. than to peek on chat window once in a while.

Peeking makes me 1. ignore chat and missing on things 2. focus on chat and die on mechanics

Bubbles are saves for me, when I miss some bubble I can peek into chat to read full information, but having text in front of me in game is way to luxurious to switch it off.

So, do YOU presonally use them, or not? And why?

Aye, usin’ but not always want to respond for somebody at all, especially in dungeons. When ye’ve got an awesome randomized noobs on board, who just chit-chattin’ and lyin’ dead, while ye do all the job, it’s not the best thing to talk with such a cargo, or it has a huge chance to make them cry tellin’ the truth of their uselessness and misery. Also it’s much more useful and attractive, then just chat window with all this spammers, especially ruskies, who just floodin’ whole window with their gibberish guild advertisements and awful blurred font.
And not usin’ any voice at all due for some spam again - it’s in nature to talk about ourselves, and i’m not the one who gives a shite ’bout somebody, who ye dealin’ with at the moment as long as it get’s the job done

Quite helpful to have the chat box since not everyone feels comfortable to be on voice chat.

I mainly use voice chat with guild mates or groups running dungeons/trials.

There is only so much abuse in zone chat one can take before just turning it off. I joined a guild why would I wade thru trash when guild chat is so much more pleasant?

I'm aware of the option.
If i was more active in the rp community in ESO, i'd prob turn it on.

But purely from a game play pov. i'd not turn it on. Leave that chat in its own easy to close if needed box.

As for not responding. In dungeons especially if you used the dungeon finder to get a party. Most people expect you to be a mind reader. Or at minimum to know the dungeon and its mechanics and your job in it. And if you tell people you don't, you get booted from the group. because people have no patience or willingness to teach.
In pve, i see some people talk in local chat. but its more often its either rp, duel requests or talk about how to do things. players are very helpful if you ask for help. but just general chat, they don't have time for and expect you to join a guild for.

So it's easy to mistake it for being rude when its more. you saying hello in a crowd and the crowd ignoring you because they assume its not aimed at them.

Ironically I’m pretty sure bubbles were originally defaulted On because I remember it irritated me and I’d have to switch it off..
Than there’d be an Update and they’d be On again...unless I was just getting bug’d

I turn them on for groups, easier to see a pile of ash corpse when it has a big orange x above it.

In general though I don’t have them on, even nameplates are reserved for groups, it’s too much screen clutter, and this is actually a rather pretty game when you can see it.

I've always felt as if chat bubbles were a feature I would enjoy if I spent some time learning when and how I liked them. But I'm too lazy to do that, apparently. I turned them on for one of my characters to see if I'd like them, and it must be an alt I don't use that much because my only impression is a vague memory of logging in once in a while and being like "WHAT the... oh yea, I activated that for this character."

I'm aware of the feature but never does it occur to me to remember and consider as something I'd like or want to solve a problem in game while I'm actually playing. (As an alternate example, I turned on friendly NPC health bars after Depths of Malatar was released because it helped me heal the NPC.)
