Banning Addons?

    I have 9 crafters that I do the dailies on. 1 grand Master Crafter to do all the writs I get. I understand the tedious nature of it.

    I don't think that is reason enough to quit a game because an addon is being removed that does the work for you. Maybe people need a little self reliance instead of relying on machine code to do the work.

    I think it would be hilarious. Maybe then things would actually improve in the game. What reason do the devs have to improve the ui/buff trackers or other quality of life things for us console folks when they can just download something to make it look better for themselves and not worry about it?

    This does bring up a valid point. There are so many essential, quality-of-life changes which SHOULD have been added to the base game at this point after 5 years. Many other good MMOs out there actually improve their UIs and add qol features where they should logically exist because it makes their customers happy and playing. Zo$ however, doesn't seem worried about qol as long as they have a free volunteer workforce which they don't have to pay (addons). Zo$ seems to only worry about how much stuff they have to make for each gamble crate season. They probably have more workforce assigned to swap color palettes on assets than they do on combat, story, and zone dev teams. Heck, I doubt they even have designated employees for UI development because the only improvement they've added was Guild Store filters, which came like 4 (?) years after launch.

    Addons do affect performance negatively, and console players can't even access addons, but unless ZoS management gets their *** together and start being concerned with making a better game than a gambling money machine, I don't think these addons aren't going anywhere.

    Yes they will. Guy that did addon API died and ZOS employ only nonpro people so noone else know how to handle that API. :)

    I feel you pain. (contrary to popular belief) LOL. I have messed up my share of master writs. The gold ones hurt the most.

    I'd be worried if they didn't close this thread or the one I made here is why. If they are allowing to continue on its likely that the rumors are true. Now I think they do know how much of a hot mess or potato this would be and the backlash if they did it though. So I hope there is a middle ground solution and they will just disable addons that collect data like MM or some other merchant addon that scans in game data. And since this thread has been active since nine or ten am one would figure it might have been closed already. Yet it wasn't closed throughout the entire day. Given their policies they would have most likely closed it. If they didn't then there would likely be either they are out or there is some truth to this. Which I do hope is not the case. But in the past they have done this left a thread open even if it was unconfirmed rumors and they turned out to be true like the previous lore master leaving. Hopefully it isn't the case with this.

    I agree that the UI needs some overhauls. If the addons do go away, that's not saying that some of the features in current mods might not be added as actual UI upgrades.

    It may be necessary to disable mods temporarily for the big re-install coming up, as many of the mods may not function properly with any new coding from the rewrite. Then the mods could be checked for compatibility and re-activated.

    My uncle works for ZOS.

    This isn't a rumour, it's 100% true. Some other things confirmed for next patch:

    - Flying mounts
    - Spellcrafting
    - Dwemer playable race
    - Bard class
    - New max gear level
    You forgot the part there the new Ohmes and Ohmes raht sub races can use Khajiit style mounts and non combat pets in combat.

    I understand, But they have never done a 100% re-install which will happen with update 25.

    If the changes are so drastic to require a full uninstall and re-install. More things may be changing internally as opposed to just a standard patch.

    While I think it is pretty unlikely that ZOS would remove support for PC add-ons, it would not impact my playing much. I would only really miss the Map Pins, Set Tracker & KillCounter. I do use a UI addon (DarkUI) but I could live without it. I only have 7 add-ons installed.

    Can you please confirm or not? Because the fact your not closing this is quite telling.
    As I do know you guys close threads just for being hearsay with no real basis. The exception is when the rumors are true. Because this thread would technically fall under this.

    How dare you believe that rumors? they (ZOS) may add some sort of addon certification, to pass allowed addons and forbid cheat ones. Completely removing addons = killing this game.

    Ban add-on completely? Undermine all the hard work the authors have put into it? A lot of these add-ons are quality of life improvements that makes the experience on ESO much more enjoyable. I don't think so.

    What cheat add-ons?

    ZOS completely controls the API that addons need to function. If they don't like an addon or its functions, they just change the API and its done.
    (See the changes to Miat's stealth alerts, the changes to MM's sales query function, and changes to large blocks of characters in chat add-ons.)

    Anyway, this sounds like something zos would do, since they completely ignore console, and the major performance issues that plague console.. But this sounds more like BS to me. Probably just a random rumor.

    C'mon this is a troll post intended to freak everyone out while the DEVS are on vacation the MOD that responded earlier was just doing moderation so they weren't the one to ask for a confirmation they were a moderator, forums have them to do just that most times they are senior members of the community or volunteers they are not DEVS thats like going to work yelling at a salesman because he has no idea why the draftsmen used chamfers instead of fillets on some rando project he was told to sell 5 mins after it was given to him to do so. Some one might have said something that got taken way out of context but I highly doubt they would do away with all mods full stop.

    I was under the impression there wont be crossplay? And crossplay would mean even more pressure on the mega server architecture in terms of performance no?

    The bigger question is maybe - assuming performance will be fixed - if getting ridd of add ons would be worth it if we get crossplay in return...and i do personally think yes...

    Crossplay - being able to play with everybody would be fantastic and zos has shown a willingness to incorporate more tools or updates to improve quality of life (Which they certainly should do more of especially for console, like sorting and searching for things etc.)

    Except you see they have done improvements to the UI and QOL issues. Aka multicrafting. Nameplates and several other UI enhancements. It's just, as we have seen, that what it takes years for ZOS to release it only takes months for the modding community to address.

    Really though I dont see them removing addon. Changing how the API works and what it can access? Well that's more likely.
