Controlling emotions in PVP

I’ve personally found PvE to be more disheartening.

I like to PvP. I don’t consider myself as good, but I just like to have fun. I don’t get much of any hate from teammates, but there are some occasions where it’ll happen.

There have been some times when some people really deserve to know how bad of an attitude they have, but you don’t need to be the one to tell them.

Sometimes I tell people “ily (@name/character name)” OR I say “(@name/character name) I LOVE YOU AND ONLY YOU” and sometimes it changes the mood. Either they tell me to stfu or they respond positively. It makes me feel better though because feeling any hatred or acknowledging any negative emotion in myself never helps me. Throwing a bit of positivity may throw some people off though. It may be weird as hell, but it also makes me laugh too lol.

    its just practice. A LOT.

then you make tweaks to your build. Then practice a lot more.

Then you might change your build up and practice even more.

so never stop practicing. You can still have fun through the pain cos...

eventually it kinda clicks. Big time! :)

The end game raiding community is far more egocentric and toxic in my experience. By a lot.

They can be, wont argue there. But I have had morlock with them vs pvp. Mainly because me in pvp is like make a wish playing football. I dont have meta gear or builds, only pvp for the darn skill and fishing achievements

I play in Cyro while avoiding BGs. The reason for that is that I think Cyro is fun while BGs are not. And I tend to not rage there as I play to have fun mainly. When I get hate whispers I rarely reply, but I enjoy them since it tells me I've gotten under the skin of whomever I killed. Occasionally I might reply with something annoying just to infuriate them further.
As for the salt in the zone chat, I either ignore it or troll the salty ones. I just don't care about the opinions of complete strangers. And when there's too many ball groups I either avoid them or leave.

Funny, my experience is exactly the opposite.

Yes totally agree, I love PvP tends to be a lot more jokey and jesting

In dungeons is where I find all elitists, telling you how to fulfil your role.

I get my gear and get out with pve activities 👍

Beware of vulnerability factors going into it. Stretch and eat something first. don’t be in a rush. Plan ahead to do something else if it doesn’t work out. Don’t go in sick, or with a headache. I’m serious. Emotions only get worse if you are already compromised before hand. This is an activity you know for a fact will get you emotional so plan ahead.

    Focus on what went right.
Everyone knows that the negative experience stays with us the longest no matter what so you have to go in with the attitude, I’m going to focus on a positive event. Sure there was a jerk, AND you still captured keeps despite them. The map looks better because of your efforts. The situation you planned for in your custom build happened and if it weren’t for lag you pulled it off. Your character looks amazing. Find something positive and focus on it because the negative stuff is inevitable.

Do the opposite. Laugh, even if it’s sarcastic. Have a comedy video queued up between bouts/load screens. Your goal for all the effort you put into your build was to have fun winning not to impress some random neck beard hundreds of miles away. If you aren’t having fun playing a game then what’s the point.

What platform and what color do you play? Join a decent guild and get help from your guildies on how to pvp. Remember some of us have played solely PVP for 5 years so you won’t be as good as some of us. It takes a lot of practice and time. Dueling a ton helps too. The best PVP players I know duel a lot.

I laugh at it bc that's all you can do.

Completely untrue, we all know the toxicity in Cyro zone chat was caused by faction swapping trolls, it's all hugs wrapped in puppies these days.

You will always die in video games, there will always be egotistical internet trolls that exist just to *** you off. Possess the emotional intelligence to ignore these people. If you just made your stamplar, than you can't get mad that you aren't performing perfectly. Just maintain the train of thought that if you aren't seeing the results that you want, than you simply need more practice, more repetitions. Unless you have done all that you can do to practice and your character is perfectly min maxed than don't get angry when people troll you, just practice and build your character. Eventually you will be a baller and the trolls will eat their words, until then, don't worry about trolls, just keep your head in the game and keep training.

It’s funny. The complete opposite is true for me. Not calling you a liar or anything, it’s just strange how different our individual experiences are.

Agreed, I stopped bothering with end game vet trials. I have seen so many people kicked / left out of guilds for not meeting dps and schedule requirements. Long time members verbally abused for not following mechanics then booted and replaced real time with pugs who usually don't work out. Other members not allowed to play their own builds / gear because of missing out slightly on DPS requirements. This wasn't just one guild either for myself.

PVP you get more of the traditional tea-bagging and alliance trolls, which is generally avoidable if wanted.

But everyone has diff experiences, this was just mine.

My journey to become good in PVP is a struggle. I have leveled all classes both stam and mag to get an overview over their capabilities, with the endgame goal to know them all enough to know how to react in PVP. I am now at the point where i started to get some good kills against new and moderate players in BGs. Against good players, i have no chance.

Controlling my emotions in PVP is at times hard. Snarky comments from others can really *** me off. This one dude in my team today went "A stamplar should be getting more kills and do more dmg than this , change your spec". I JUST made my spec , spent a LOT of time and gold on it - theorycrafting and testing the skills i wanted - and when i finally get in the action this guy come along. (snip).

This made me think, how do YOU control your emotions ingame while PVPing? Do you get mad when a snipe spammer kills you or you lose to someone you consider playing cheap? Do you just laugh it off when you die?

(edited for profanity and inappropriate content).

Uh, sounds like they struck a nerve...

Own your mistakes. Reflect on why you got low dmg and kills. If you're confident in your build, then prove them wrong by being MVP next time.

And yeah, it sucks but there's only so much you can theory craft on paper. PVP is all about refining your build through actual combat. And sometimes that means throwing away gold gear that's not working out. It comes with the territory.

I don’t control my emotions. I UNLEASH them. Anger, hatred, all that makes me play smarter.

Enemies make you stronger. Manufacture them. Tbag everybody. Read your hate tells. Write them too!

You should play mad. Use your anger to FOCUS and do whatever it takes to kill fools. If you’re in a BG and your team’s whining and whinging CUSS THEM OUT TOO!

I've been playing pvp video games since they have existed and my advice is that if you can't physically shouldercheck your opponent and make him swallow his quarter, laugh it off.
There's no other response that's going to have any movement.
Anti-class them if they really annoy you. Build to end them. And then end them.

You need a thick skin OP in PvP. If someone says anything negative towards you it is more their issue than yours. Play what you enjoy and ignore any naysayers. Its your game.

If you really want to p**s someone off build your own snipe spammer and you will see true hate lol, I did it and some of the tells were hysterical, so funny. :p

Just lst go and unleash your anger. Send salty PM's to everybody that kills you.
T bag your own faction members when they die and send them hate tells.

I think that's the best course of action.

This one is pretty easy: either ignore people who are trying to trigger you or, what I do, use the Miat's pvp alerts addon and disable zone chat and whispers in the KillFeed window. You get all the group chat, objectives alerts, kill stats, and AP wins without all the noise.

Don't get upset! It's just a game. On a console if you get a nasty message just report the player and move on. Believe me the other player will be even more upset when he/she loses text privileges for 24 hrs.

I stopped caring. You either are playing against an OP class or you are one, it changes at the whim of ZO$ as they use the nerfing sledgehammer to make their small "adjustments".
I enjoy PvP when its working properly, the borderline insults dont bother me, I've heard worse. Personally I use online guides and alter them slightly to suit myself and generally do well from it. Then again I only play Mag-Sorcerer and have done since beta and again when I came back when One Tamriel so I know the class pretty well.

I just dont see a need to control my emotions and i dont mind other people being jerks to me with online gaming in general. I just be an ***, talk trash, go try to kill same guy 100 times like a sore loser and die 100 times without getting a single kill. T-bag if i get any kills. Sending hate mails. When get more angry, just plain insulting. Get very angry at times, just show it. When i close the game, i just continue being a normal person and without any hard feelings or even thoughts from the harsh online gaming session i had. And when it is over, i go on with my real life not giving a single f or thought about other people i just met online and will meet again maybe one or two weeks later for couple hours. I see any people giving more thoughts for online games than i mentioned above as plain idiots, tbh. One thing i love to do when doing dark souls duels for example, when people bow before duels, i just do the bow gesture with my ass turned to my opponent. This triggers some people so much, i absolutely love it, lmao. In eso i really love escaping 1v1 s for my life then when my opponent gets really aggressive he is getting ganged and i go and tbag the hell out of him after killing him 1v5. This triggers them soo much and getting hate whispers most of the time. I am having so much fun with these kind of stuff!

We don't talk about fight club.

I play in offline mode. The only thing that ever bothered me in PvP, and why I hate it in ESO so much, is other players' attitudes. But you can mostly avoid having to even know what a jerk someone is if you play in offline mode so they can't whisper you. You can even avoid noticing if they teabagged you by immediately zoning out the second you die. So you CAN render other players' stupidity completely neuter, it just takes a little effort.

just have to remember its only a game (hard at times i know especially when playing with friends) resign yourself to the fact you will die sometimes to a fair fight other times not so much there are ppl who play with respect and others that go out of their way to grief other players, if you get a hate whisper its usually because you got the better of someone so take it as a complement, the whispers accusing you of cheating and they going to report you are usually from ppl that use some sort of exploit and thought they couldnt be killed and are shocked they was :)

There’s nothing toxic about anything you listed. The sooner you see that the better off you’ll be.

It being a game doesn’t change what teams are there for - to accomplish something. You’re either there to help or getting in the way.

Imagine joining a soccer league and running off in a huff when you get benched and then cut for sitting on the field picking flowers. Then running off saying people are toxic.

This is why people say participation trophies and other nonsense ruined a generation.
