Now that ZOS has acknowledged the bots and is patching to fix the pub bots.
New ones have popped up out in the world.

You get questloot and kill credited (for archievemetns and quest progress) as long as you damage them once.

So basically the bots are helping you get the kills, by doing the actuall fighting for you.
Like they already help you getting the archviements for the dungeons.
I find that very usefull and can live with them making my life easier a little longer, Zenimax can fix it in thier own time.

    Wut?
None of that makes sense in this thread.

Are you a copy paste bot for pub dungeon white knights?
Wasn't talking about pub dungeon bots, was talking about the new bots..

Don't bother arguing with him, @awkwarrd‌ . This guy has been going on every single bot and spammer thread with the same cookie-cutter response to defend the botting. If it wouldn't potentially get me slammed with the banhammer, I would outright accuse him of botting himself. All you can do is report for griefing and move on, don't let them destroy your Customer Support thread.

Thank you for showing us this, @awkwarrd‌ . It seems that these bots will follow the player around rather than simply camping nodes, which was bad and game-breaking enough in itself.

Can anyone from Zenimax investigate this? It seems that they've evolved to a new level of abysmal.

You can clearly see he didn't even read this thread.

Not sure how or why.. but i think all he saw was "bot" in the title and then a copy paste comment.

Is it a forum script or filter thing?
Im not sure if this is against the forum rules or not, but his reply is clearly not from someone who read this thread.

He saw "bot" and came to try to defend it the practice. He's already posted on multiple threads how he enjoys the bots and doesn't see the problem with them. Don't argue with the guy, just report him for griefing the Customer Support forums. I'd suggest moving on and no longer discussing him on this thread, as it needs to stay alive and open so the rest of us and Zenimax can see what is going on.

Bots following players around now...wonderful. See, optional, toggle on-off nameplates would really help here.

I saw someone complaining about another player following him around like this in zone chat last night… now I'd bet it was a bot. Great.

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

Zenimax needs to start taking a proactive approach to these issues, rather than waiting for something to go wrong - or grow worse as it's done here - and then, maybe patching it.

Not with an in-game command but a 3rd party bot program can be ordered to move within the vicinity of in-game players/npcs. The bot likely thought the guy was an npc and was trying to attack him and he couldn't so it just followed him around.

I wonder what they will do next.

And why do I have the very distinct impression that the people who are supposed to fix this either have no idea what to do or simply do not comprehend how bad it is and think it can wait?

Do the people who are supposed to fix this have no idea what to do, or do they simply not comprehend how bad it is and think we can wait?

He made his argument worse by either using a 3rd party forum script to post on bot threads...
    Or..
Not even reading the thread in the first place to post.

Im not sure which is worse tbh.

His other comments seem kinda thought out, however, most of his comments seem to be in threads talking about bots and/or gold sellers. Weird. I'd just vote he's trying to up his post count and didn't even read the thread.

Ok, I did not realize that those characters were following a different player, I'm guessing the one who made the video & post? I've seen this type of thing especially in WoW where for a LONG time "boxing" was the way people played. Not sure if those players were anti-social, bored, had too much time/money on their hands or what, but basically it was ONE person controlling several accounts (I personally have seen as many as 10 following one that is obviously playing, with names like "Daveone", "Davetwo", Davethree" & so on). I don't agree with it, never have but who am I to tell someone how to spend their money, right? At least s/he is not buying gold & then wasting CS/GM time with the need to have the account researched so that all the items stolen can be returned & all the characters relocated back to their appropriate home server(s).

If this is a case of bots just latching onto legitimate players, following them around & then basically kill/loot stealing that is WRONG and needs to be stopped immediately! If though, it's a case of boxing (as I described above) well... I can't say it's wrong necessarily but it IS greedy and it clutters up other player's games. I also have to wonder though, I too thought there was no way to /follow another player so how would the botter do that?

I wish that there was a way of completely preventing all botting behaviour (I recall one day when I was out farming mats in EQ2, I kept seeing this little gnome run past me, stop & look around, then take off in another direction, had no idea why until a few months later when I was crafting & being increasingly annoyed by healer spam from above me & finally asked about it in chat - that was how I learned about bots), but I think if there was then we'd never get any wonderful addons either. I'm not sure how either works, but I would think that the same doors would have to be opened for either to be programmed. =(

Oh and as far as botguy up there? I reported his post & will continue to do so, as to me what he is saying is that he supports botting (even if it is because he apparently can't play the game) which makes him JUST AS BAD as the botters.

Yeah, in this video, you can see the bots split off into their automated movement.

I doubt its multi-boxing, its gota be a 3rd party program / bot

These are "normal" bots, programmed to follow a set path with a given agro reactive range. Nothing really new.
Sadly, the bots are more common now for me to see then actual players, if not in a town.

I'm not sure how either works, but I would think that the same doors would have to be opened for either to be programmed. =(

addons use a language called Lua, bots use a third party Program that replaces player input (mouse+keyboard) and inputs directly to the program. Bot programs usually operate off of co-ordinates and can be surprisingly complex, they will run set paths, farm selected mobs and farm selected resources at the bare minimum. More complex bots can respond to tells with basic statements, spam guild or party invites along with (usually) advertisements for their services and can deviate off of set paths to gather resources.

Bots generally break the EULA provisions that the user shall not tamper with the core program nor add to the program or its directories or anything contained within its directories... sort of thing...

did i mention that addons are nowhere related to bots? or that Bots don't sleep?

    Bots are baad, mmkay?

LOL I know bots are bad, I was in no way, shape or form saying or implying that they are good! I'm not a programmer, so I have absolutely no idea how a bot is programmed, that's all. Thank you for the basic explanation, I understand a little better now (and much better than if you'd used a bunch of complex terminology!).

I also already knew that bots do not sleep, as I mentioned in my post I'd discovered them quite by accident through playing EQ2. The first, was a gnome that was running around a particular zone, occasionally stopping for a few minutes before running off again & stopping. I was farming for a particular ore that was stupidly overpriced on the broker & realized that this gnome was actually stopping at the exact location where these nodes were spawning (I believe that Sony attempted to at least curb this by making all node spawns random for every location) but because I was mounted, I was outrunning him & was able to farm the ores I needed. I had no idea that it was a bot though, just thought it was another player or perhaps the child of a player (I have friends who allowed their 4 year old to play WoW but he was ONLY allowed to farm nodes & had been taught routes for various zones that would take him from node to node safely) who was farming & wondered why he didn't mount up so he could at least compete with me. It was only later, when I was doing some crafting on another character that I found out what they were, due to the location where I was crafting (a 2 story structure). Early in the day when I was crafting, I'd hear from above various yelps & hollers as whoever was up there crafting missed an error & got smacked. Later on, I returned to craft some more, but now I was getting chat spam as well as visual spam from a healing spell that was being cast over & over & over without ceasing. I finally asked in chat what was going on & someone explained to me that the character above me had been programmed to bot crafting & now was likely either out of bag space or out of materials & so had reverted to continually casting the spell that had been used to write the crafting bot program. (Of course, I immediately reported the character name for botting & then put it on ignore although it didn't remove the chat spam from the spellcasting & I ended up going to a different building to craft.)

THAT is why I thought that in order to allow for addons, there wasn't a way to prevent botting.
