Guys stop tin-hatting and scare mongering. The FTC isn't out to get people uploading eso videos.
Have a look at the both the FTC guidance on mixed audience content and also the actual ruling against YouTube and Google
    https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/documents/cases/172_3083_youtube_revised_complaint.pdf
It's quite clear that this is a fair approach taken by the FTC against material clearly targeted at children.
The FTC's guidelines on their own website also show clearly that they recognise that mixed interest content exists and that just because content isn't deemed as mature, that doesn't make it targeted at kids.
Also, on the 42k fine. The FTC also state that this is a maximum fine and that the FTC will take into account the impact of the fine on the businesses financial capacity.
The law is indeed serious and no doubt will be enforced and rightly so but it is very clear to anybody that reads the FTC guidelines that they really are targeting people that specifically target children with their content.
I think people are reading too many scary theories into this.

true and true, however... the issue with youtube enforcement? still exists. you may not get sued by FTC but if youtube's poopy algorithm decides that you are lying about your content? you can lose your videos, your channel, and so on and so forth.

and... while FTC does recognize that mixed content exists? the decision whether your content is targeted at kids is ultimately STILL up to their discretion. the fact that youtube went for binary selection when it comes to video classification - doesn't help either. and all in all, this is important to be aware of if you do gaming videos, among other things.

Americans and the way they try to protect their children on YouTube. They would be better off by providing free higher education but I guess there are bigger priorities 😑

@Linaleah 100% true I think. The main issue for people here, I expect, will turn out to be false flags by YouTube algorithms. In which case, no doubt, you can appeal to YouTube. And also your point on people needing to be aware of this in general is wise.
But there are people on this thread implying that there is a realistic chance that somebody here putting up a build or housing video is going to get dragged to court by the FTC and hit with fines of 42k per video they have. That's just not a realistic outcome in the context of what the FTC has clearly stated this ruling is about.
I just think it's important on threads line this to give balanced view points. Otherwise the tin-hatters will run amuck and spread unnecessary fear and panic

So YouTube have got caught & are now passing the buck on compliance.

The second video was very clear about this, and that they could easily comply, but won’t.

Is there no other online video-sharing platform that can rise up & challenge their dominance by not being so data & $$ greedy?

Just because they have a monopoly now does not mean it will always be that way, and behaviour like this is when their arrogance, hubris & greed can be their downfall.

Not sure how law works in US, but in UK this could be contested in Court leading to clarification in regards to its application.

The thing that sucks about all this is even if you are innocent, you will still wind up playing thousands of dollars in lawyer fees just to respond to a FCC subpoena.

Conversely, I think they will be very selective about who they choose to prosecute. They are well aware that any litigation initiated by them could end up costing them well over 42k in expenses.

Sounds more like it's the final nail in youtubes coffin. Hopefully a non-US/EU alternative pops up, although many gaming youtubers seemed to have jumped over to twitch over the last year or two (and twitch has enough issues of it's own).
