StamNB: not fit even for questing?

All I can think of since your other character is a sorc, is that for stamblade you need to be very mobile--dodge/roll equals 100% damage mitigation. It's not a class to stand around heavy attacking (which my warden can do with ease).

Would need to know what skills you have slotted to advise further. But yes, overall, lvl 40 sucks for pretty much everyone.

I have Wood Elf stam blade farmers (coward's and darkstride) that have no problems short of world bosses. They are even capable of soloing public dungeons, including group events.

Stamblade imo does need a buff but not for overland content you should be easily killing bandits and crocodiles sounds like ur gear low lv.

If you have dual wield have you tried bloodthirst and bloodcraze instead of rapid strikes and rending Slashes? You miss out on a whopping 500 DPS but stay alive without a healer.

Power extraction deals damage while reducing enemy weapon damage, dark shade deals damage while reducing their damage further, deadly cloak deals damage while reducing enemy AOE damage further, stacks of relentless focus reduce it further, surprise attack activates shadow barrier and deals damage while adding armor mitigation. Nightblade is the tankiest thing you can DPS with these days. Swap to two hand with brawler and it's easy mode survival with huge damage shields that get bigger with every enemy hit.

    Some thoughts:
    • I leveled a stamblade years ago. Getting Vigor made a big difference.
    • Reaper's Mark is a great heal again. It won't help in boss fights, but it's amazing in trash.
    • Yeah. If you're going to go DW then use the healing morphs. Similarly for shielding/healing in 2H.

Further, I really enjoyed playing a stamblade thief, and stealthing past most overland fights. However, it's probably best to do that at CP 160, due to the reliance on dropped sets. The key is to optimize stealth:
    • Shrink your detection radius (definitely).
    • Move faster in stealth (strongly desirable).
    • Lower the cost of stealth (helpful too).
    • Hide faster (also helpful).

Possible aspects of a thief build include:
    • Medium armor passives
    • Khajit passives
    • Legerdemain passives
    • Champion points
    • NIght Terror, Darloc Brae and/or Night Mother's Embrace sets
    • Night's Silence set or vampire passive
    • Concealed Weapon (unfortunately the opposite morph from Surprise Attack).
    • The invisibility morph of Cloak (unfortunately the opposite morph from the healing one).
    • Snare removal (pick your Minor Evasion skill accordingly).
    • General speed buff (harder to get after all the nerfs, but Charging Maneuvers still has merit, and there's even the Swift trait).

Just grab 11 others. Try 2 dps, a healer, and tank per crocodile and rework as needed.

Vigor. If you don’t have vigor/don’t feel like going into pvp, dark cloak. That + leeching + grim focus mitigation/burst heal + proper cp allocation should be more than enough for comfortable overland questing. You can morph rending to blood craze and rapid strikes to bloodthirst for even more healing if you’re still struggling.

I am leveling a bosmer stam nb currently at level 48 in the Rift, at about 450 CP sloppily invested and not even all invested. Just wearing a mash of overland sets I picked up during the quests, mixture of green and whatever. Some of my gear is more than 10 levels below me I picked up from Shadowfen cause it has a set bonus and just didn't replace yet ("gotta replace that dagger soon"). Not playing any build at all, just grinding out skills and morphs. I'm generally mowing stuff down and if I die occasionally at a boss (Thallik Wormfather killed me) it's very well apparent to me that "Damn I just wasn't paying attention", not that there's anything wrong with the game... this is easy difficulty level.

Why is it a priority to pay for Skyreach runs? At level 40?! What is the rationale for that? Especially considering as you say you just play for lore? I don't even know how much that costs cause I would never consider it but I'm guessing it's not the kind of pocket change you pick up in completing a quest. Are you throwing away savings earned through another character? Is this how you got skill lines maxed out or did you pay for that in crown? At 48 my skill lines are not yet maxed, I am not playing with final passives. Did you pay for skill points in the crown store?

OP sorry to be a doubter and no intention to shame you but your post just doesn't seem legit to me. You're running purpose crafted set gear at level and struggling with content? Is your gear not enchanted at all? You didn't mention enchantments so that is all I can think of.

IDK I really think you need to adjust your attitude to this game somehow. Paying through the nose for stuff you don't need... Crafting gear that isn't working... Go back to basics and be like me and just play with scavenged overworld gear? It's sufficiently fun I assure you

If you can't spam Steel Tornado to kill 3 overland crocs, before they kill you there's something very broken about your build. Even without Steel Tornado, they should die very quickly. I write Steel Tornado out of habit; you might prefer Whirling Blades now. If you post a screenshot of your stats, someone might be able to give some advice.

The Silver Shards morph of the Fighters Guild ability Silver Bolts is also an effective ability for overland content. It melts groups of mobs and can be used as a spammable with any weapon. With gear within 10 levels of your level and stats allocated properly, it would kill those crocs before they could reach you.

The only issue I can imagine, even with a subpar build, might be healing. Really, for overland content, Leeching Strikes should be all you need. You can also use the Dark Cloak morph of Shadow Cloak, the Bloodthirst morph of Flurry and the Blood Craze morph of Twin Slashes.

There is also Vigor of course, but that would require pvp.

There's definitely something missing from the OP. Any DW front bar should churn through trash like crocodiles even at L40. Yes, they'll need the healing morphs, but to Steel Tornado I'd add Shrouded Daggers for overland content. It's my go to spammable which often as not will kill trash before they can reach me, even after it lost the movement nerf.

    What is your health?

Using health and stam food can be a big help. Also adding one or two health runes to armor while leveling.

You are at level 40. I would suggest getting up to level 50, and see how things go then. You'll have a monster set and cp160 gear; it will make a big difference.

Even just by rolling and heavy attacking you shouldn't have died.

Sorry, going to have to call this for what it is: a hard attempt to ask for a buff. Just no.

I don't care for buffs, nerfes and so on. I just want comfortable questing experience. I don't do dungeons, so you're wrong.

Comfortable questing experience, yet talks about rotations and CPs.

Can anyone find the doubt button? I think it needs to be pressed, and fast!

Are you suggesting that casual players are incapable of understanding about rotations and CPs? Cmon now.

To relate, im a Khajiit Stamblade main, i could offer advice.

The only time I've had trouble killing overland mobs in ESO was when first starting out. Are all of your attribute points in one spec? I had mine spread evenly against magicka, health, and stamina which was a terrible mistake. Second mistake was to not use food. Also only wore heavy armor, medium would have been preferred. And then, you're not using a skill with a cast time right? Final mistake was to only spam snipe at all npc enemies.

Made some changes as proposed by several answers. Now my Khajiit kills a bandit on Vvardenfell with 2 abilities, bow + assasination skill. This is inspiring. Today I'm going to work out the "plan" for crocodiles, maybe bow + steel tornado to kill them fast.

Experiment. Work it out in your mind, read the tool tips, practice using a Light Attack between each skill. Use Leeching Strikes to buff your resource return, and only use your execute skill on targets at 25% health and lower. Eventually youll discover how much power you can get out of your character.

Then youll be complaining everything is too easy like everyone else.

Equip a 2H and spam Brawler.

Was going to say this, too. Your DPS will be garbage, but at least you should be able to survive long enough to whittle them down. And add a Hardening enchantment on an Infused weapon if you are still dying.

When i first started the game i had issues with surviving with nightblade since it had no strong heals but strife. (which isnt that strong for stam)

Then i started using strife, rend, soul tether and brawler which made survival more easier.

    Then found out about Vigor.

But what is weird to me is, You are 650cp already.

Edit: i forgot to mention; as some one else said, around 35-50 levels its the worst because battle leveling acting weird like it almost doesnt grant you any bonus like it used to.

Im not surprised. different classes play differently for different people. for me personaly, stamblade has always been the worst. event with vigor, she feels the weakest, the most fragile, just really really sucky to play all around. granted, I'm a lot more rubish at melee than i am at range, but even then, somehow, playing any of my other stamina melee characters doesn't feel nearly as terrible as nightblade.

for me - the solution was to say "screw it" to meta, go bow/bow (one bar is single target, one bar is AoE) and kite my way to victory. so yeah, you may actualy have better time questing with a bow, op, especially since you mentioned having much better time with a sorc.

heals help. shields - absolutely help. using morphs on dual wield that heal you on hits, helps too.

edited - for all those "but how did you get to that CP??" folks. some of us play more then one character. now, your milleage may vary but for me personaly EVERY OTHER CLASS, regardless of stam or mag - felt by magnitutes easier then stamblade. still does. so i get where OP is coming from.

Endless hail, Caltrops, bar swap, steel tornado and the occasional self heal is all you need to drop everything.
Obviously you need to be buffed etc but thats a no brainer i guess.

Sorry but you must be doing something really wrong if that’s your experience. Every single class in the game can destroy basic overland mobs in seconds. Maybe your gear is too low level.
