Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – April 6

Two hours on PRIME time with no updates

  • Chinspinner

lol at everyone telling me what the definition of primetime is. you are all totally missing my point. No matter when they do maintenance there will always be people here claiming its their primetime and making threads acting as if they are all important.
im from USA and my primetime is right now cause my schedule isnt the same as everyone elses but im not going to jump up and down and cry like a kid as if that will fix anything. everyone wants to act like they are all important and that they need to be catered to. im sorry but no you arent and no one is, we are all the same. we all pay the same sub fee and we all expect them to fix problems asap, except when they do try to fix things asap people still complain and cry. if they dont fix something asap then there is a whole nother group (or a lot of the same people) still crying . i get that there are certian % on at certain times but this is just the way things are and no amount of forum campaigning will change it

Prime time is the evening hours after the normal 9-5 working day. It is for all entertainment, be it TV, pubs, whatever; because that is when most people have free time. I don't care if you define prime time as something different; you are wrong.

lol and still not getting it. there is no hope for some people.

keep arguing pointless things here...while not even realizing the EU server is back up

There is nothing to get. You have not made some astute point, despite the fact you probably think you have. You are wrong, accept it and move along.

I'm impressed that the community acts like this on every MMO launch. I'm also blown away by how entitled the EU folks come off in this thread. Number one, I dare you to find any mainstream MMO where the EU subscriptions were greater than the NA ones. There isn't one.. Including this one. Number two, to some extent, this is what the free 30 days is all about. Regardless of what you tell yourself, we're still in beta. No MMO launch is smooth. If you genuinely get this irritated about it, why don't you just wait a few months before sub'ing?

This "blah blah... it's always somebody's prime time ...blah blah" is getting really tiresome. It's not about whose gaming time is more valuable, or definitions of individual's prime time, it's about when maintenance disturbs the least amount of people. Prime time is when most people are playing. It's simple as that, and it's just plain stupid to patch servers then. You can try to spin that however you like, but being unable to play does not improve anybody's gaming experience. Poor communication and lack of ETA just makes it worse.

No we're not missing the point. Of course someone will always be affected when a service isn't working. The prime time talk is just a dissatisfaction over the decision that stoping a service at it's peak hours is a pretty stupid business decision and also not giving much respect for their bulk of their 24/7 paying customers.

Prime time is from about 7 pm to about 11 pm, in what ever time zone that you're in. It doesn't matter what your personal schedule is, or what you consider your best time to play. More people log on to play an MMO between 7 and 11 in their timezone than any other period of time - which is why it's considered prime time.

Now, it would be nice to live in a world where MMOs could schedule their maintenance to match the time zone that they server, or at least the region - North America, Europe, Oceanic, etc. According to the regular maintenance schedule, ESO IS attempting to do their maintenance early enough that it doesn't normally affect their servers' prime time.

Emergency maintenance happens. Maintenance can also take longer than expected. It sucks, yes, but there's nothing we can do about that. They're not going to read complaints on the forum and say, "Gosh, I guess we should hurry up." They're already going as fast as they can.

As for folks who live in regions where the normal maintenance is scheduled during their prime time, all I can say is that I'm sorry. I get it, it sucks to be you. But a company is always going to try to meet the needs of as many of its customers as it can, and since North America and Europe generally have larger customer bases than Oceanic, Oceanic gets screwed. It sucks, but that's just the way it is.

All that said, I'm annoyed that NA is still down, and would appreciate knowing if "early evening" is in EDT, PDT, or some other time zone.

Early morning USA is not prime.
In fact this is scheduled downtime, much like WoW has had since 2003.

With much respect, the USA is not the only country in the world. It is currently 7:25PM in South Africa [BST]. How much more than prime time is that?

It is the only country in the world that matters to most Americans.

Some of you guys are acting like you are in early stages of withdrawal. Not playing this game for a few hours or a day will not kill you. All of the euros complaining about their desire for special treatment need to jump up and down and shake the sand out, You guys sound ridiculous.

The big thing so many of these folks are missing is this is unscheduled, unexpected maintenance. That means they are doing it now because it needs to be done now. You don't really want them to postpone it because it could very well call for a rollback of any progress you made up to them finding the issue and fixing it on their end.

If you are playing on a North American server, you should fully expect downtime to be scheduled in a manner that corresponds to North American hours of the day.

No we connect to the EU server, which is still hosted in US. But this is not the first time it has been off during out prime time.

there is no such thing as "prime time" its relative to the person. no matter what time they take servers down it will be "prime time" for someone somewhere. the world does not revolve around each person individually. its impossible for them to take the servers down at a time that won't interrupt anyone.

Yes, but when is the MAJORITY of people online? Schedule maintenance to have the minimum impact to the respective client base. People in general will work a 9-5, anything from there onward until midnight is considered prime time I am sure.

Let me put this in terms you would understand. If you offer a pay-per-view service, but nobody can use it due to failures and so on. HOW THE HELL COULD YOU EXPECT TO SUSTAIN THE BUSINESS?

And then all the NA server people jump on here and troll and they are like "Why are you *** tripping?"

Forums lit up like a Christmas tree, and why. Because people are unhappy and want answers, but you know what. Most people will just cancel their sub and leave, because the frustration of "Trying to talk to the man" and failing is just the same old nonsense on a different day.

This is pretty much how I approach every launch of an MMO... (minus the entitled EU comment) I know there will be major issues and expect them.

So this whole thread not a single person from north america has grasped the definition of prime time. Prime time is statistics what your personal opinion/playtime is, is completely irrelevant. Prime time is simply when highest percentage of players are online that's it, it isn't debatable, its maths.
