I only watch 3 Streamers because of that, One is always Tanking the end game, One always PvP and the last one simply is fun to watch even when the streamer seems clueless

I'm probably getting old, but I still can't figure what's so entertaining about watching people play the game when you could be playing the game yourself instead.

The only PvP streamers I watch are the ones who can be humble. It's fine to watch cocky players, but the ones who admit to being bested instead of complaining 100% of the time are the ones I'll return to.

Indeed, there are very few that can equally hand out a taste of humble pie when they get crunched, most are too far up their own rear ends to acknowledge there'll always be someone better out there than them, they just haven't met them yet (apparently) , the ones that accept that are worth a look.

It's the same thing for sports. Why watch it on TV when you can go play it? Tour de France? I got a bike in my garage, I can go hit the trails. Basketball, I can go play at the local park there are pickup games all day every day. Chess matches? Poker tournaments? I can all do that with friends.

I mean really, it's not some new revelation, or being "old". It's pretty common sense to know why people watch streams.

Mine is more of a "I wish they would NOT" list....

I wish certain ESO streamers would STOP using viewbots with hidden site embeds to make their streams appear to have thousands more viewers than they actually do. (Will just say that two of the three biggest offenders in ESO have already been named in this thread multiple times for unrelated reasons. It's fine if you personally enjoy them, and the viewbots are legal, though probably only because it makes Twitch's viewership numbers look better. But it doesn't make what these streamers are doing any less shady.)

I also wish ESO streamers would STOP locking their playlists behind subscribers-only settings so that people can't get the title and artist unless they pony up cash. Unless you own 100% of the legal rights to the music you're playing, you're being a major A-hole by locking your playlist. And buying a CD or a music file does NOT automatically grant you any legal rights to the songs at all, BTW. You're preventing people from finding new artists they'd love, you're preventing musicians from gaining new followers, AND you're preventing those musicians from paying their bills if they make income off their music. A triple whammy of d-bag behavior from you! (And now that I think about it, one of the streamers who uses viewbotting ALSO does this playlist-locking crap--or at least he did last time I was on his stream a few months back.)

As to more ESO-specific streaming stuff:

Like someone else said, I wish more streamers would just let us experience the darn game! Almost every stream is the streamer just barreling through the quest dialogue and the viewers having no idea what is actually happening in the game. I like watching people play through quests I've already done so I can see how they respond to the story from their own unique perspective. But instead, I usually just see nonstop whacking enemies with staves while nonstop talking about a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with the game. I frequently see newcomers in streams who are trying to decide if they want to get the game for themselves, but all they end up encountering is generic fantasy "DPS, smack a bunch of enemies, get XP" when there's so much more to ESO than that.

I also wish people would realize that it's okay to just be YOU on your stream. You don't need to develop a larger-than-life streamer personality to engage your viewers. A significant number of ESO streamers (and streamers in general, let's be real here) seem like perfectly nice people IRL, but I can't watch them stream because they all seem to think that they need to have ridiculous catchphrases they frequently abuse, and/or to behave like a "zany" morning radio DJ. After like three minutes of that, I'm out. I stopped listening to the radio as soon as playing your own music stash in your car became cheap and easy. Not subjecting myself to that type of annoying aural abuse on Twitch.

Two examples of chill, nontoxic ESO streamers that I greatly enjoy watching on Twitch: Inklings, SoundIllustrations. I'll watch them play just about anything, not just ESO. They're just very pleasant to listen to and chat with on their streams. And Sound has funny naughty birds that occasionally steal the show (or Sound's computer cables).

Super late edit (because I was going through my comment history and only just saw this) but JEEZ, StarkeRealm, it was super rude and cruddy of you to not just try to guess which streamers I dislike, but to also go so far as to name-and-tag some of your guesses in this thread, where they could see and potentially be hurt. I cannot believe you did that. My jaw is on the floor at how awful you were. Your guesses, by the way? All wrong. So your inappropriate behavior was all for nothing. I've been watching ESO streamers on Twitch for years, long before drops were a thing, so I have watched just about everyone at this point. I've got a pretty long list of streamers I like as well as ones I dislike, and I'm counting people who don't even stream anymore on those lists.

    - murder everything in Cyrodiil and BGs. show us high end solo play and/or well synergized group play.

    - do hard PVE content like Vet Trials Hard Mode or Vet Dungeon Hard Modes.

    - show us your effective builds in action by game mode. don’t necessarily have to share the build if you don’t want. highlight the game’s theorycrafting depth and reward for creativity.

    - give meaningful commentary of what’s happening on screen

    - lighten up and crack some jokes

    - show us some swagger and attitude

Or you can just stream yourself? Or just not watch streamers at all?

That's, actually, a pretty major topic right now. I could swear I read an article recently that Twitch was going to kneecap embed views, but I can't find it now. It's not just ESO, it's a serious problem for Twich.

The surprising thing is how many are only playing it up a little. That said, if people like @Ninja614, or ClassyKatie aren't to your taste, there's a lot of streamers out there who may be better fits.

@Inklings is genuinely good people. So's Sound, from the interactions I've had with her. If you're not familiar with her, @Tianlein might suit your taste as well. Not sure how much she's streaming lately, because we're on opposite schedules these days.

I fail to see that common sense, but hey, I never watched sport on TV either. Still I could spot a difference. I can play basketball, but I'm not quite as good as what I'd see watching an NBA game, for instance. The same can't be said for most people I'd watch playing the game in my stead.

But maybe I'm wrong about that too, I haven't had a TV for quite some years now. Nothing especially interesting to watch, less time to actually do things ? No, thanks.

    You are wrong about that.

Some streamers are watched because they have radio personalities.

Other streamers are watched because they’re good at the game.

If you want to see why people watch me, hop in my stream while I’m live and challenge me to a 1v1. Then, when I win, watch the replay to see the what I did and how you can learn from it and improve. Eventually, you’ll be the one who wins and my stream and I will watch the replay to see what I can do better to learn and improve. Either way, learning and improving happens.

At any given point I’d say anywhere from 25-50% of my viewers are watching me to see whether or not they can beat me. I talk a lot of *** but it’s all in fun - the people I talk the most *** about are usually my toughest opponents and closest friends. Very much a “locker room” community.

Some people never played sports growing up and take *** talk personally. Those people don’t watch me and that’s ok - they usually don’t have the personality traits / resilience required to be relevant in PvP anyway. And that’s ok, there are radio talk show hosts who will make them feel special.

There are streams out there for everyone. Just find a community that fits.

Imo you gotta look further down the list. Fengrush is great to watch. Especially if you want to learn group play, same goes for dottz. But my favorite streamers are the ones that aren't as popular. Kristopher eso is one of the best players with the most unique build guides. Scarrx is a crazy good magdk and Stam blade. Lyarr is another insane player with crazy bomb blade videos. Speed kills is a really good player, one of the better Stam sorcs I know of. Thogard is great if you enjoy battlegrounds. Pain in the axe is another good magdk. My personal favorite is mursie for his colorful commentary and passionate game play. I left a few out but definitely check these guys out.
Edit: theerealdarkshady is another good streamer I forgot to mention
