To me RNG is an inferior way of rewards system in any fashion. Why isn't the rewards based not off luck but off completion of content? For example, Monster helms and shoulders. Why don't we receive credits and then a merchant with all available helms and shoulders with the option of trait after purchase. They would never had to introduce transmute crystals in the first place. Take resources , every 200 unrefined with net 1 gold mat.

It feels nice to have gear or items that other players don't ... because I've put in my dues to get it.

People forced to grind over and over for stuff, pads out the game hours, and makes their numbers look nice, unfortunately.

It isn't (just) the RNG. The loot tables are pretty sadistic.

If they do this they could also require that you have whatever achievement associated with the dungeon or content in question. So for masks it could be required that you complete vet mode of said dungeon and all other gear require you to complete the dungeon on any mode.

Also they could just do both. Have rng for a single completion but also have a dropped token like currency for each dungeon that allows purchase of any and all types of gear from dungeons.

I hit undecided because there wasn't a choice for other. MMO's survive through content being repeated. RNG is good for the long term health of the game. Don't let gear chasing turn into a grind and you will be a lot happier. Being able to change traits was/is a huge help in getting gear so farming gear isn't all that bad now.

I'm relatively happy with what we have. Many items are RNG drops, but we then have transmute to take some of the grind away when needed. In the past, without transmute, some grinds were a nightmare. We still have a few things here and there that I feel are a bit too RNG based, but that's more about where and how certain things drop. Alkosh shields and some dungeon drop weapons come to mind. Still not that bad compared to other games. It also helps that nearly everything here is account bound so you can pick it up on any character for another one you're playing.

It's an MMO and that's how these types of games work. Nobody would bother running any content more than once if you would get the wanted rewards upon completion.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Who said the credit system wouldn't require player's to run the content a many number of times to get just one item ( armor costing less points due to needing so many) but would guarantee the perfected item upon completion.

You can tell how important the whole RNG rewards system is by seeing how keen you are to do the content once you have the gear you want.

My experience is that lack of a decent set/motif will make me reluctant to do the content at all, once I have the achievements.

Good sets or rewards will encourage repeat visits, but once I have what I want, I’m not super keen on going back unless we’re farming for a friend.

So the rng plays a big part in encouraging repeat visits... both in what rewards I get and the sets/traits of gear. Clearly I’d like it to be higher, so I got what I wanted faster.

Or discouraging repeated gameplay over multiple nerf bowls and not enough space to horde all this junk that might just be good after on of these nerfmires again

You wouldn't have to save sets if you knew that farming was guaranteed to net you want you were after if you put the allotted time into it, not by just getting lucky

The sad part is when you meet someone who just started the game and rng gives them the very thing you've been grinding for for months and has eluded you.

A mix between the two would be better. I don't mind rng loot, but cosmetic rewards, like runeboxes shouldn't be rng.

I feel that way about items other than gear, motifs should be achievement dependant, if you do the no death, speed run and such perhaps also non linear hidden ones. Maelstrom, Dragonstar and Blackrose prison should have a gear exchange voucher that if you don’t want the particular gear you turn it in and receive a voucher. Lets say 5 of those will allow you to purchase the preferred gear with selected trait

Yes, but what OP says also confuses me. Zos chose to not go down the route of a token system where we roll on a token and as such went with everyone getting loot. I am guessing OP wants it where we roll on a token and only one person gets a piece of gear. Talk about RNG.

There should be a balanced mixture of RNG and tokens. It's obnoxious to keep grinding the same content well beyond the point of being able to do it with my eyes closed but there needs to be some level of randomness to keep things from being the exact same every time.

    Technically there is.

Before that, for BoP gear Zos made it so we could trade gear with others in our group at the time the gear dropped. This increased the chance we would get a piece of gear by 4x. Ofc the smart thing is to group with guild members since they are going to be more wiling to trade with you and of course state what you are looking for.

Then Zos added the Transmutation system and crystals which again reduced the RNG issue 9 fold as the trait is no longer an issue.

Absolutely not with one person getting a token. Everyone put in work so everyone gets rewards.
Each time you complete on normal you get one token. Vet 2 tokens. Hardmodes something like 3-5 tokens.
Each helm or shoulder is like 50plus tokens. Trait is chosen upon purchase.
For 5peice sets then armor pieces are like 10 to 15 apiece while weapons are 50 tokens per.
This amount can be doubled to ensure players are doing content enough to justify rewards. Tokens are only eligible for gear dropped in specific dungeons.
So you cannot farm spindleclutch and get grundulff helm with spindleclutch tokens.

Are you smoking crack? Go farm a new inferno staff. Or a succession inferno. How about spend like 20hrs progressing VBRP and try for a perfected lightning staff and end up with.............everything but what you needed.
It's a inferior way of rewarding players for time invested. Really, feel like a chump but all the other mmorpgs suck worse than this one. One day someone will get it right.

And then they went absolutely bersek on nerfing things, so now, the previously BiS gear you spent time farming the RNG for, and spent precious transmute stones on getting a good trait, is now so laughably crap that even if it were to be unbound, you couldn't give it away in zone.

    Thanks zos!

    Happy with Rng
I am generally happy with our system, except I wouldn't mind a credit system like transmute crystals for the change to buy dungeon gear should you never get the drop you want. I still don't have my BSW fire staff and, trust me, I've tried.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

It would be more realistic if in the overland chest there were " set pieces" . Simple chest would have one and master have like 5. Overland monster have a chance to drop a " set piece " and world bosses and dolmens 5 " set pieces ".
When you collected 50 you could exchange at clothier or blacksmith for overland set. Once items is selected you would pick the trait and receive armor piece.
When you collected like 150 then you could exchange for a weapon.
It could work the same for undaunted with the vendor outside of the camp.
Then have a trials vendor at the undaunted camp also for trials set peices.
No more trying to trade with this person and posting set pieces. Everyone would get an equally fair reward and drop.
If the meta changed for traits thats where trnsmutes come into play.
