PTS Update 24 - Feedback Thread for Housing

I took a hard look at Lucky Cat's Landing, and I feel that it falls into the medium house category. Sure, there are medium houses, even in base game, that are a bit large to adequately decorate with 400 slots, but this house doesn't seem to me to be any bigger than Velothi Reverie. The exterior of Lucky Cat is certainly larger, but the interior is definitely smaller. There are only 4 room inside, plus a small porch. There are connecting hallways that might make it appear larger, but most of the rooms aren't really any bigger than the ones in Velothi Reverie, and Velothi also has the main entrance room plus a basement, in addition to it's four rooms (plus it has the small balcony overlooking the main hall that connects the upper rooms).

I appreciate that they are offering us a modest-sized home and I'll be picking this one up once it's available. Now, one can argue that 400 slots isn't enough for this medium home and a number of the base-game medium homes, but this home does not seem to me to be much bigger than Velothi Reverie or, say, Ald Velothi.

I do agree about the mold in this home - I do wish it could be scaled back a bit. I also agree about the lack of variety in the Elsweyr homes vs. Morrowind. But I think Summerset had a lack of variety, too. Inn room and townhouse were in the same style. Even the Villa was largely the same style (though the exterior was a ruin and it had a weird ruin room in the back). Only the grotto was really different.

As for the Potentate's Retreat - loved the exterior and even the interior, but it's just way too large for me.

Oh, and as for the comment about the Snowglobe, I don't recall anywhere ZOS saying that they were going to address our request for more medium homes by giving us medium sizes with large size item limits. I think the globe was an anomaly in that it was the holiday-themed home but it wasn't available for gold like the cottage was. What I heard from ZOS was that they would give us more medium homes, period - not with larger item limits.

I'm torn regarding no new furnishing plans this update. On the one hand, I like collecting new plans and seeing new styles, but on the other hand, this will save me some gold. I still have a handful of base game plans that I don't know, in addition to a few CWC, Murkmire, and Elsweyr plans (no to mention all the purple Dwarven and Ayleid plans). I can take a breather with this update on farming new plans and gold to buy said plans. The reason I don't have all of the plans is that there is a limit to what I will spend on an unknown plan, so some have still eluded me. But, maybe if I'm not having to farm/buy a new set of plans, I can spend a bit more to get the ones I still don't have. This is a selfish reason, of course, and that's not to say that I don't want new plans, as I always enjoy seeing a new batch. Perhaps they could provide some new plans that are still Elsweyr - I don't think we have plans for every single Elsweyr furnishing, so there may be some they could add even though the new zone is in the same style.

I presume more new furnishings will follow over the coming weeks PTS cycles.
I have every confidence that the design team is going to add more than the current offerings. Especially given that this year of dragon theme has allowed them reuse so many assets.
The q4 story DLC has traditionally been good for new furniture items so I look forward to seeing the rest added over the coming weeks.

A bunch of furnishings from Northern Elsweyr haven't even been released yet (two that I wanted were the kitchen counter corner piece and the padded sofa).

Lucky Cat is considerably bigger than Velothi Reverie. The rooms are bigger inside, and the outdoor space is several times bigger.

It's more closely comparable to large houses like Mistveil Manor, Stay Moist Mansion, Quondam Indorilia, Dawnshadow, etc. (it's bigger than some of those).

No, in total, Velothi Reveri is defenately bigger.
Lucky Cat's outside is biggger than Velothi Reveri's garden, but Velothi Reveri also has a big basement.
The inside of Lucky Cat is also not bigger/more than the inside space of Velothi Reveri.

Suggestion for Lucky Cat: How about loose the mold inside and keep it outside

Just a little thing: I was excited to find the cave behind the waterfall at Potentate's, only to have my spelunking expedition unceremoniously thwarted by an invisible wall cutting off access to the last 3ish feet. Please push that back a bit.

Hopefully the lack of new furnishings means that we'll be getting the tons of missing Elsweyr items plans. Perhaps that was the intention all this time, hence them not calling it "Northern Elsweyr..." so and so plan.

I'd love all the archways, windows, doors, different style walls, etc. There's a treasure trove of unreleased plans from Elsweyr.

I do like both homes... but will not be purchasing Lucky Cat, too many small rooms.
The Potentate's Retreat is nice, and I love the layout, plus the magnificent gardens. However, the aged stone look is really old (ha!) and I'm hoping I can cover it up.

This said I have some "WHA DO YOU MEAN THERE"S NO..."

    1. NEW FURNISHING PLANS: Hi? Yes? Where are these? Why are there none?
    2. NEW FURNISHINGS: um, none. No new flowers, or anything.
    3. Achivement furnisher? No, I will *not* be ruining the entire DLC by doing all the quests just to preview the achivement funniture. If you wanted it tested you should have given us access.

REALLY REALLY disappointed in Dragonhold for housing. THe Kalgrontiid statue is cool.. but for how much? If it's more than 4k I will not buy it, and at 4k, I'm only buying 1.
Sigh.. while I do love the pool at Potentates... is it woth 10k crowns JUST for that? I dunno, depends on if I have money I guess.

This is sad. Housing is my main motivation for end game, yet no one is listening to the feedback we give!

I love the retreat! It's not insanely enormous like many other notable homes, and I look forward to decorating it on the pts! The outside area is also beautiful <3

I love the Lucky Cat, aesthetically it is so unique and beautiful, but for some reason it has been given the item limit of a medium home when it is clearly much bigger than other medium homes in the game.

I decorated the Lucky Cat Landing on PTS and I had to block areas off, because of the ridiculous item limit. 400 slots is a limit set for medium sized homes. This is not a medium sized home. This is a large home, badly disguised as a medium home.

As avid decorators, we, your players, have a good idea of what accounts for sizes of each of the house categories. We spend so much time in them. Is this house really the size of Cliffshade? Gryharths Woe? Even Ravenhurst?? No! It's much closer to the size of Alinor Crest! This is not giving people what they want, by just lowering the item limit. Sticking a limit of 400 on this house does not make it medium. I love this house, but having to either block areas off, or remove absolutely every ounce of detail and/or personality to decorate it puts me off. Please consider making this a 600 item home! Or adding a new category of homes with 500 slots, because 400 is not enough for Lucky Cat.

I did try placing the Aeonstone Formation collectible furnishing in the terrace of Potentate’s Retreat, I thought that the effect was beautiful, but the crystals could do with being made a little clearer and glass like, they look a little plastic as they are now. It would also be great if we could remove them, or if perhaps they only showed when lit up, as I feel that they will cause frustrations when building and decorating here, they really get in the way and not everybody is a fan of them.

I really liked the new furnishing bundle, but was confused as to why we had Hearts Day items in September, and hope that we have more, Southern Elsweyr related furnishings to come later on during the pts! As we currently have 80+ of furnishings like chairs, tables and rugs, but just 11 walls? More structural items would be great! I would also like a lute! :D

Generally, I think the houses and furnishings are wonderful though, but just the item limit in Lucky Cat needs looking at I think, and people were also dissappointed by the furnishings, not because they were bad, because they were lovely, but because there were so few of them, and because they in no way relate to the dlc, or were items that people from the community, who play and pay for the game, have been asking for.

So again you are getting very specific and fairly consistent feedback here.
    - Lucky Landings item count is too low for the house size
    - people don't like the mould and grotty walls.
Please don't ignore this feedback like you did with the boulders in Moon Sugar Meadow. I really don't know what more we can do on our side to help communication here. People have taken time and effort to these houses. Some like @Elara_Northwind have even spent days decorating and posted videos to back up why we feel this house is too big for 400 slots.
Please show us that you are at least acknowledging our feedback. Otherwise what is the point of us putting time into this.
We are a passionate community when it comes to housing. We truly want to work with you guys. We are always far more respectful with our feedback than the combat brigade on forums. Please show us the same courtesy in return by taking our feedback on-board.

What are your favorite and least favorite things about each home?

    Favorite:

They’re both stunning. I like Lucky Cat Landing slightly more because it reminds me of Denpasar, and reminding me of my real-life travels is definitely a good way to make me want a home! But Potentate’s Retreat is really beautiful and unique, too, and I love the tie-in to the zone story.

    Least favorite:

The item limit in Lucky Cat is utterly ridiculous. This is a Large home that needs 600 slots being advertised as a Medium home with 400 slots. We have eyeballs and can easily tell that this home is literally two or three times the physical size of several other 400 slot homes (Cliffshade?!) and is around the same size as (or even larger than) other 600 slot homes like Alinor Crest Townhouse, Stay-Moist Mansion, and Old Mistveil Manor.

Someone else said the interior of Lucky Cat felt claustrophobic, and agree. I still like it, especially the outdoor courtyard at the entrance, but the downstairs ceiling in the house feels really low.

Did you encounter anything unexpected in either home?

Only that the very back of the waterfall cave in Potentate’s Retreat is inaccessible due to an invisible wall. And the ridiculous 400 item limit in Lucky Cat.

Do you have any other feedback or suggestions for these homes?

    Make Lucky Cat 600 slots.

The final wing for the Hall of the Lunar Champion can be opened through completing the main quest. Did everything work as expected, and did you like it?

Don’t have any characters who have completed Northern Elsweyr yet, so nope. I actually quite like it, though I realize some may disagree. The view is spectacular, and I love making some of the more run-down homes look cozy and inviting, so I look forward to decorating it.

Did you try to place the Aeonstone Formation collectible furnishing in the terrace of Potentate’s Retreat? If so, how was the experience?

    See above.

Did you check out the new furnishing bundle? If so, what did you think of it?

I like the design and also think the textures look pretty high quality compared to some of the Elsweyr furnishings. The flowered vases were also great and we’d love to see more items like that to save slots! The furniture offerings are a little skimpy, though, especially compared to Murkmire, and these new items are 5 months away, which means we’re likely not getting any new furnishings until the 2020 Q1 dungeon DLC at the earliest.

Do you have any other general feedback?

-It’s too late for Potentate’s Retreat, but if you can’t raise the item limit above 700 for some of the notable homes, then please stop making homes that take up 1/6 of the entire zone map and only giving us 700 slots to furnish them.

-Please stop doing the same thing to Medium homes that you’ve done to Notable homes.

-I know many have complained about it, but the lichen on the walls in Lucky Cat Landing doesn't bother me. The cultures in this game are more connected to the earth than most modern human Earthlings, and I imagine a little edible lichen on the walls is of even less concern to the Khajiit (a.k.a. cat-people) than it would be to a Breton!

It should be removable... you can keep it if you want a mouldy house to get ... disease damage debuff each time you visit :)

IMO the mouldy interior does not fit with any furnishings we have, especially Elsweyr, unless we get some mouldy furniture plans, so you can create a proper abandoned house for RP or whatever.

I have enough houses, but if I was new to the game I would be interested in the Lucky Cat... however, the mould on the walls is gross, in the end I would buy an other house.

I would also like to add, that no, I did not unlock and see the new wing in the Lunar Champion house, because the pts is currently NA transfer, and our template characters obviously have not completed Northern Elsweyr, so half of us can't actually unlock it. It's bad enough that we have to complete the entire Southern Elsweyr questline to unlock and see this house on PTS, I'm not sure if you expected those of us on EU to complete all of Northern Elsweyr too?

If you want feedback on the new Lunar Champion area, then don't lock it behind completing the quest! The people you will get the best feedback from regarding this are obviously those from the housing community, many of which are really into their questing, and so therefore do not wish to ruin these quests before the DLC goes live! I personally would have been happy to speed through the questline to see it, perhaps happy isn't the best word, we already have to waste enough time on the PTS unlocking things, but I would have done it so that the community were able to see it and give feedback, but alas, this is not possible.

We previously were given the tablets for the new wing on template characters, why do we not have them this time around? It's almost like you don't want our feedback on it.

So to be honest - why even ask those questions if u dont care about the answers anyway ?
I have watched this time on time again now. U never ever seem to give a damn about anything people tell u in regards to the pts before things get live.
So why come here all the time and pull this off ? I am somehow sure none of the housing devs reads anything here anyway, again.

And btw - no new furnishing plans with this update ? So we got tons of new stuff with murkmire last year how come the second zone of your super "hyped" year of the lizard loot lamas does not bring us the equal amount or at least a fraction ?

Why do u repeat the same absolute horrible mistake with the 400 item slots again that u pulled on Frostvault Chasm ?

Why are we still lacking basic furniture options that should have been there forever and time and time again we do not get them.

and something totally random that drives me mad:
Why is there a Fence category in the Furniture Tab that only includes Walls,Pillars and stone rubbish but THERE IS LITERALLY NOT A SINGLE REAL FENCE IN THE GOD DAMN GAME UNTIL NOW ??????

How about u start from scratch with everything, delete your roadmap for the next year and start reading up on what people ACTUALLY want and need. And start working on that, WITH YOUR COMMUNITY IN MIND - u know, YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS.
Stop trying to milk us, stop neglecting the people that obviously pay the biggest amounts of crowns for ingame "features".
Maybe add an anniversary or a housing event when u are at it cause if u take our money all the time for your cool feature u can at least implement it into the game like u do with your lackluster DLC`s and chapters.

@Mix the "paint blender" you showcase already exists as a furnishing. https://eso.mmo-fashion.com/artists-palette-pigment-2/

I agree with you though, we need more options. I can't believe there isn't an "ingot" item for blacksmithing at least not that I've found. So simple.

I didn't mean the palette, I meant the pestle-like thing and the board with red paint on it. I am not an artist so I don't actually know the name for these items.

edit: it is called a muller, thanks google and the board with paint on it is just a grinding surface, used together to make paint from solid pigments.

I have never seen any ingots in game. So in this case it would be a new model, albeit as you say, a simple one.

There are special eso live episodes that just show the new dungeon runs and such.

How about an episode of eso live that JUST evolves around housing?

You have given us a time frame for performance updates and skill reworkings. You must have plans concerning housing for the coming months or perhaps even years. There's a ton of great ideas and possibilities around, and also concerns and fears from the community. Give us goals! Give us something to look forward to!

Why do you do what you do right now with housing? Why do you explain some things and then do something else despite of it (few slots, big house)? Why does it seem that you give housing even less thought than in the previous years (seeming lack of new furniture/blueprints etc)? Is it a database thing?

Everything would be better than just dropping us some stuff and not comment and not react to it, not inform and not communicate the way it is done right now. You leave us wildly guessing, our feedback flows into a great void, this is causing frustration. Don't mistake the mostly calm, polite and factual feedback as costumer satisfaction.

We do feel neglected, we feel unheard - show us that you listen!

Work with us, explain us, share with us. That would be very much appreciated.

Yes, I want to add to the sentiment of the above replies...

How come the only developer replies in the housing forums are only ones from moderators, and there is none from the housing dev team (I wonder if it exists or there is just one guy) who replies to many many threads about furniture requests, features, questions, feedback, and so on. I don't remember such a reply in the past year. How come?

Also I noticed that during live streams, most questions about housing are brushed off quickly by the community managers and devs, like yeah housing that thing... Usually the reply is "there will be some houses and new cool items", that's all all the time! I would not react like that, if I wasn't paying a sub, and buying houses/furnishings with real money, thing that I stopped doing because there is so little no communication from the dev team. There are many people like me, just asking for a thing that does not cost you anything.. more communication

    Thanks!

"Fixed an issue that prevented Elsweyr furnishings from dropping in Southern Elsweyr."

As much a confirmation as we'll ever get. There will be no new furnishings nor furnishing plans - aside the handful of items on the achievement vendor. There is only "Elsweyr" furnishings, which will re-appear in southern Elsweyr, which will simply be a rehash of the items we already got with northern Elsweyr.

This marks the first zone DLC since housing started in ESO, with no new obtainable plans or items. It's a clear downgrade compared to earlier standards, and is probably going to be the new "standard" moving on now. Which means we're down to only getting a significant amount of new furniture plans once a year - and only if you actually buy the new expansion pack for a premium price. Other than that, it's the paltry few plans we get every 6 months at the mastercrafter vendor, along with dungeon DLC plans and items.

Just remember ZOS, that when your time and effort spent in new furniture items and homes grinds to a halt, then so does my inclination to buying any more of your overpriced same-y houses as well.

I just checked out wing 3 of the Hall of the Lunar Champion and am globally pretty disappointed.

Overall it is MUCH smaller than the previous wings.

It uses the moldy, low res broken down textures that are in Lucky Cat Landing, and in the small house there it is *especially* unfortunate looking.

The outer fences are WAY too high and make it difficult to appreciate the only good thing about this wing, which is the view.

The entire exterior is extremely broken down and ugly. Shards of wood fencing, uneven slats, bits of garbage nonsense here and there.

This is a deeply disappointing final wing for the Hall. When I saw the datamined image for the 3rd wing I was pretty excited for a nice, pristine little hut on a hill with a porch, but literally the first thought I had when I got there was "how do I cover this garbage up?"

Please, PLEASE at the very least use the clean, high res textures from Anequina, and not this moldy, low quality nonsense from Pellitine.
And if youve any love for your housing community at all, please clean up that yard/porch so it doesnt look straight out of an abandoned house photo series. There are so many lovely architectural assets to choose from, and we get the abandoned jetty tile set for the much anticipated final wing?
Please do us the courtesy of making this last area look at least somewhat presentable.

I would agree. After grinding through the main story quest only for it to bug out and force me to wait a week, I am extremely disappointed. The general aesthetic does not match the ruined temple vibe of the other three rooms, and the usable space is much smaller. The interior of the house is too small and the general run-down feel kinda worked with the other three rooms, but it just looks unappealing within the context of a house.

Did you snap any pics for any chance? I was excited when seeing the datamined pic. I am glad it is smaller though, I wont have much spots left when I finished with the 2nd room. There is probably a way to work around the fence. And is the view obstructed when being on the porch? (going by the impression I got from the mined pic)

I did not, sorry, was too focused on trying to make it look less like a dump >.<

the railings are about chest high on me, as a tallish altmer. If I stand right against the railing on the porch, i can see alright, but anywhere else the view is all but completely obscured by the railing.
The lower railings are upper chest height on me, and even when standing right on them you can barely see anything because of the ivy all over them

There is a hard kill line below the fenced area. I experimented and you cannot reach the next area down from the fence before it auto kills you.

Honestly the texture quality and the ramshackle nature of the fencing really kill it for me. Its vaguely salvageable but only just barely and really doesnt feel worth the massive effort to do so.
