For those of us who have bought the new expansions, and we start at the latest one, why not let us where to start instead of forcing us to start in the lastest bought expansion intro? I'd like my characters to have different origins and play them like that
...so to clarify this, I would all be for making the old coldharbour tutorial the "default tutorial" and all the others into "expansion intros"; make all the "classic" story progression the default as well... and then give people the -option- to go and bypass all the old in case they want to start with the new if they really want to (just like you have story starters for other things in your collections).TheShadowScout wrote: »I myself always think it would have been so much better of they had not made the new "tutorials" as -tutorials-, but... added them as "expansion intro".
Like... the first time your character goes to Vvardenfell, they cannot just wayshrine, but need to take the boat, which shipwrecks on firemoth isle... the first time your character follows queen Ayrenns invitation to summerset, they get intercepted by sea-sload magic and end up in the mind trap... the first time your character goes to elsweyr, they get caught in a dragon attack and end up rescued by some friendly khajhiit... etc.
I'm for choice, but it would be good to give new players a big and immediate nudge toward the Coldharbour quest line. It gives so many skill points, levels the Soul Magic skill line, opens the Coldharbour area, tells you to look for skyshards, and -- assuming they join the fighter's guild asap -- levels FG quickly while killing all those daedra.

IMHO, I don't like it.
If the premise is that we are focused on making this a cohesive RP, then to force the characters to start in Wailing prison - if they want to follow a logical progression - Forces them into the Longest questline without any preparation whatsoever. Because the Main questline, if it is to be done so that everything makes sense REQUIRES Mage guild and Fighters Guild as well as the Alliance quests to be ALL involved in the total story...

This takes a huge amount of time and does not really allow for the player to just go exploring, or off to see what Summerset, Morrowwind, or Elsweyr is all about.
If you decide to ignore some of these Main storyline quests, then there is no longer any basis to say " we Need them to start at THIS point". If it is a pick and choose, then give the players ALL the options as to how they want their stories to begin.
I've said this before, I Like the new Elsweyr tutorial. Its a story and its fun. And I like getting some basic things accomplished for the character BEFORE I head off to the Wailing Prison.
IMHO

There is a good chance that I would have never fallen in love with ESO had I been dumped off into Anequina or Vvardenfell as a Daggerfall Covenant character simply because I would have been extremely confused, having literally no idea what was going on.
Being able to complete the prison then fall into the seas off the coast of Stros M'Kai then to campaign through High Rock helped me to better explore Tamriel and understand the game's story in a very linear fashion.
Every new character should begin in the wailing prison with the planemeld storyline. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

ESO is overwhelming enough as it is when you are completely new to the game (MMOs tend to be), and then you don't even know where you are in the story and realise at some point that you started actually from a wrong place without knowing it. There are people who don't care about story and lore and don't mind this, abut ESO is a story driven game and many, many people play it for a story.
