(I'm perfectly willing to be corrected; this is my understanding of the turbo change.)

You were hitting Show More when you actively wanted your data; this was load only from you and the handful of other people attempting to do the same thing at the same time. Otherwise, it was the slow dribble of info we were permitted.

The change meant that MM was effectively hitting the Show More button... for everyone, including the folks who previously weren't actively requesting data via Show More. That's increased load. Also, considering there have likely been gaps in the data from the bottlenecking, I can see how MM may have been attempting to catch up on lost sales from the past 10 days.

Again, my speculation on what happened.

It’s just not that much data or api requests, and eso doesn’t have a gazillion concurrent users. I just don’t understand how in this day and age with the technology available, this can be so difficult to make more robust. A startup with 2 people can make a more robust database and api in 2 days.

it's a good point, but still another feature that most don't realistically need, while Guild History is **still** being boned, and zos dont seem to be bothered actually implementing any decent management tools. Yeah we got Listings, which is pretty cool, but they didnt even think to implement a text search into it?! And we are still relying on addons for simple things like in-roster sales and donations info, and constantly being kicked from the server if we do ranks or notes too fast :(

100% Agreed. The game we have now seems to be the result of rushed work from the start that they have never (or maybe wont) ever catch up too. So many QOL features that SHOULDN'T be lacking 5+ years on STILL are. I had helped a newer player yesterday and by the time we were done they had apologized taking so much of my time asking questions. They pointed out trying to learn things in ESO is confusing and shouldn't be. They said it felt like it was an unfinished game to them. My point in mentioning that is the constant lack of features in this game are what is hurting it so badly now with new and existing players alike...and then there is the rest of the issues piled on top of that with constant "fixes" that seem to be nothing more than temporary band-aids. The latest being the practice of turning Guild History off/on being a prime example of inability and/or neglect to properly FIX problems. If an addon can completely foo bar a server's performance (no matter the player load), then that speaks loads about the hardware/software/knowledge being used to run everything.

Hope things will be turned around in the right direction before it's too late. ZOS, I am sorry, but you are successfully turning a true gem into a polished turd.

Here is the problem.. what happens if loads of people are doing this very same thing? What happens when handful turns into ***? The obvious answer is to cut off access... again.

I am going to be gone for about 11 days in a few weeks.. I have NO chance of getting trade data at this point. Being gone for 4 days was never going to catch up unless I sat around for 45 minutes... hour... and just hit E. With 10 days... forget it, the game is grindy enough as it is this is going to be a multi-hour grind.

Whats the difference between me hitting E every 1 1/2 seconds to download the sales data and MM doing the very same thing? I was gone for 4 days over Labor Day and had to hit E to get all that sales data... and that took multiple days. Mind you I actually played the game during this time which is what I am supposed to be doing, not sitting around hitting E to get sales data all the time. ZOS has shown it won't fix their spaghetti code, feedback means nothing. Obviously MM is a huge problem which is why console players have a swimmingly good time with no lag, no disconnects, nary an error... right? Oh wait... they have all the problems of PC yet no addons... so what is THAT excuse? ZOS has their boogyman now, they can wield the data ban hammer at will.

All that really needs to be said about the difference is that it is MM hitting E!

This is a limitation that ZOS has placed on the API allowed to add-ons. MM was deliberately going around that restriction. Some of the other stuff that is limited or blocked are, but not limited to:
    Buying and gifting crown items
    Getting your email
    Walking
    Using skills
Sending items or gold in mails, and more
If ZOS did not react to this exploit, it would set a very bad, and very dangerous precedent. There is an element of trust that ZOS shows in add-ons, and breaking that trust can have consequences for everyone. I don't blame Sylvie and Philgo for coming out the with turbo mode, and they did place some good restrictions on it. But there should still be no surprise that ZOS has reacted to the use of what is an exploit.

And again, when E becomes too much then what? So you are comparing this data with walking and checking email.. yeah, you got issues. You don't see a problem, I get it. Everything is fine.

The difference between players manually hitting E and an add-on hitting E is a matter of scale.

The number of players hitting E in any given time period is going to be much less than the number of active add-ons hitting E on behalf of their players.

That's common sense. It takes time and effort to hit E every 1.5 seconds. It takes no effort for your add-on to do it while you play.

Barring a troll convention of players all hitting E every 1.5 seconds for a certain time frame, the demand on the server is much less when players have to manually ask for it. Moreover, unless the troll convention runs shifts, there will not be a consistent high demand.

Manual requests from players may create peak demand, such as primetime. In contrast, addons that do it automatically create a plateau of demand since they remain active as long as the player is.

None of this is to say that ZOS doesn't need to get their house in order. After all, we all know the fallacy of blaming add-ons when Console has issues too.

sorry, I did not login the game. I am just reading forums and trying to understand..

you are telling me that any add-on creater with good number of users can able to reduce the performance?

what kind of product is this? :d hahah

if this game was 6 months old then I can accept the handshake between addon creators and zos. and I would support this.

but now? No way. sorry Zos is lack of giving trust. Look at last 1 month when it comes to guild issues.

Its not that hard to believe. PVPers have been turning off their intensive addons like MM in Cyrodiil for ages.

That being said, the actual situation on PC is a little more complex than just "Add-ons did it".

Essentially, its the perfect storm of the PC servers approaching peak capacity (as noted by ZOS pre-Elswyer) and more players active in guilds (noted by ZOS as caused by the new Guildfinder) resulting in more queries to the server from addons = performance issues.

Console has the same issues with server capacity and guild activity, so we see the same sort of problems, but less often due to the lack of add-ons.

Its also not true that the guild queries are the main cause of performance issues, but rather, that its a relatively easy thing to turn off, as opposed to, say, combat.

The most recent problem was that ZOS changed their API to limit add-ons requesting data...and then an add-on circumvented that. Hence ZOS playing whack-a-mole.

Seriously, how the hell ZOS implemented guild history if looking at older pages causes any performance problem?? Guild history is history from the past, never gonna change it's fully static. You generate it once when happens, and then just serve the static data in fraction of seconds when anyone asked for it...

It is almost like they are hostile to the second M in MMORPG.

Group Finder broken for years; No basic Guild tools that games a decade older than ESO provide and what seems like almost weekly harassment of GM's who attempt to run their guilds with the very basic historic info provided by turning off Guild History. Shameful.

Indeed. This isn't really a hard technical problem. I'm sure it could have been solved many times over by now if a single person with the proper expertise were assigned the problem.

This is a management problem, plain and simple.

This seems like a good place to ask this. I can't get RaffleGold mod to work since the patch on 8/12/19. I put in a bug fix but it hasn't been done. Without Raffles we only have auctions to raise money for guilds and Raffles really are the best way to do this. Some guilds actually collect the donations on a spreadsheet and randomize the result but that is a really tedious way to do something that RaffleGold automated. Since RaffleGold is not working, what are you all doing to run raffles and raise money? Traders cost more since multiple bids were implemented and I need to start breaking even at some point.

So raffle gold does work, you just have to use the slash codes instead of the UI. However, I've just decided to track my lottery manually with a spreadsheet.
Phobus has also released a fixed version of RG I think, called Guild Lotto, though I don't remember if it's on esoui
