Don't mean to be the bubble burster here, but 13 million != 13 million players, it's probably 10-25% of that number.
If generous, 25% = 3250000 players total active in a month. Its probably much less than that.

Look at steam charts. I think they were around 24k active players. Then you can say you have another 24k that do not use steam or even double that to 48k or even 100k.

There is no way there are 13 million active players and what is a "unique login"? Is that somebody who logs in once a month, once a year, or just when a new chapter drops?

If you have been playing this game for several years you know that the pop has dropped significantly since one tamriel.
Haven't noticed that population drop really. Have noticed the servers instancing with fewer people in them to allow for more features in zone/etc. It's REALLY darn easy to just spawn more instances and REALLY hard for you to tell exactly how many people are in that zone. Remember... with modern server technology just because you SEE less.. doesn't mean there ARE less. Most modern MMOs keep really low player counts in many areas to ensure smooth gameplay.

As to what a "unique logon" is thats pretty simple. It is a single logon by an account over a 30 day period. Theoretically yes it could be 3 million people logging in once(it's usually about 7-14 days per month per user)... but in reality, if you see similar monthly counts thats most likely your stable player base. For ESO that's around 500k/server on average(NAPC, EUPC, NAPS4, EUPS4, NAXB, EUXB). That is generally distributed over 25 major zones and 8 minor zones. This averages out to 20k per zone per month. You won't see that being very much because it can vary from 25-800ish players per hour per zone on average.

This is why everyone assumes the game is empty.. because frankly no one bothers to actually do the math and no one understands how huge modern MMOs are. It would be like having your local Walmart exploded into a city-sized building. You will never see the whole picture because it's just too darn big.

@Wifeaggro13 Where'd ya get the refund numbers if you don't mind my asking? I'm curious.
Also, I have to point out FO76 sales performance has exactly zero impact on anything ZOS does. Bethesda lives in its own world of development from ZOS.

Aye, like most mobile games have 1million + but their player base is 2/10 or less.

Your theory is # of Steam users is 50% of players or even 25%?
I would say Steam makes maybe 10% or less in my opinion.
ESO wasn't even available on Steam untill 6-9 months after launch. I know I will never use Steam and large part of my guild community do not use it, and any one who was in beta and early launch do not use it, so those numbers are pretty liberal imo...

Their "data" is based on two primary metrics: Reddit Subscribers and Reddit Active Users. Not sure how accurate that site is, if anywhere close to accurate at all.

What point? I haven't subbed in over a year yet I'm an active player.

Someone who doesn't participate in housing has absolutely no reason to sub. The game is more than playable without craft bag.

not when your starting out you likely have tons of mats from multiple charchters deconing large quanities of purples in all weapon and armor types. for some one walking into the game they are not going to have years of streamlinging what they need to just mats and whiddled down to about two or 3 gear sets. ZOS is so frigging predatory with that bag its same with the bank . I dont disagree that once your have several characters maxed out and you are dialed in you need far less inventory managment.

I didn't put the number out there. Someone much more informed did.

According to wiki, Skyrim sold 7 million copies the first week and 30 million copies by November 2016. That was five years after it was released in 2011

Apparently that made it one of the highest selling video games of all time.

While ESO doesn’t quite look like it’s going to reach those kind of numbers

Also according to wiki, in February 2017 Elder Scrolls Online had sold 8.5 million retail. That was 2 years ago.

Well, eso may not hit those kind of numbers ever, it’s appear to be doing okay.

I want it to succeed and prosper and keep doing well. Tired of all the doom and gloom threads. That’s all.

The success of Skyrim is why Bethesda was able to go off and do a number of projects that probably never would have happened. I figure that is Fallout 76 and Blades, possibly even Starfield.

One thing to note is that ESO won't have to hold the fort alone. ZOS's second game is supposed to ship this year. Maybe it already has. I have not been paying attention.

Fall out 76 had the highest refunds of any game in the last 10 years. That and it hit the market with a resounding thud. Not scoring higher then a 60 in most of the reliable critics. I dont think zos next game is hitting this year. Hell they have not even announced the IP
i may be quoting some non sense Wallstreet journal game reviewer and his the sky is falling review of FO 76 . i have no evedience and the statement was a tongue and cheek statement. But for the record i preordered played 7 hours of beta and returned that game like it had AIDS. I dont think anyone will say its a good game. personally they should be shunned for that reskinning and Multiplayer port its a horrid game and just a half ass design.

Weird. All classic servers are full. The one I play in is high and I can hardly do any kill quests as all mobs are camped by hundreds of players.

Awe drat. I was hoping someone had started collecting data on the subject and I had just missed the source.
Game refund %s are one of those black holes that really need to get dragged into the public space. Even a small snapshot like how Backblaze handles hard drives would be a really valuable metric for buyers and investors.

It's one of those though, when you look at percentages on achievements, it's seemingly much less.

    Xbox stats:
    Achieved level 50:
Only 7.25% of gamers unlocked this

    Spend your first Champion Point:
Only 7.14% of gamers unlocked this

    etc;

I suppose it helps when they do the F2p events, game pass and whatever on PC/PS4 that draws thousands of temporary accounts in.

Let’s break this down a little bit with the simpleton math I can understand. 13 million accounts. 3 platforms. Well say 4 million per platform for the sake of simplicity. If they are roughly equally spread out.

I can’t figure out %7.25 level 50 characters in my head, but I can do %10 real fast. That would be roughly 400,000 accounts to level 50. But it wasn’t %10, it was closer to half that. Which would be 200,000. Plus a little more, I think you could roughly say 300,000 level 50 characters.

Btw, it’s %12.2 level 50 characters on PS4 so you know.

I’ve been told before that those numbers are completely inaccurate, so whatever on that anyways.

Commander keen is not what was refered to when they said the have a brand new AAA title the are working on. It's a mobile game. Is this really what the pulled their eso team to bust out?https://jobs.zenimax.com/requisitions/view/1998. So all the hoopla of this was about commander keen?

Commander Keen has probably been in production for many moons, now. Whatever impact it had on ESO is over, or nearly over. They also have a third game, which looks like it started ramping up this year. This sounds like it is another MMO game, and it will pull studio resources that could be used to make ESO the best MMORPG on the planet. :)

I won't say that it is an AAA title, since I don't think ZOS is really into that sort of thing. I mean, I love ESO and it is my current favorite game, but I don't consider ESO to be a true AAA title, and never have. It is a great game, but AAA titles are more than just a great game.
