Cyrodiils main campaign has a player capacity of around 250 people, that campaign isnt hitting high population up until maybe 7-8pm on a weekday.
Forget about queues, ive never been in a queue ever since dragonbones.
That means that the campaign hardly ever hits the maximum capacity.

Meanwhile WoW Classic queues for the pvp server are above 20k. Think the peak was 100k at some point?

So in average there are maybe 200-300 pvp players playing daily? And those numbers are getting lower with every patch.
I can remember when back in murkmire I could still find pvp after 11pm, now its a wasteland.
At least the lag is getting better cause less players bother playing pvp :D

Those numbers you put out can be easily manipulated
The ad says 11 million as in what? Accounts? Expansions bought? Lmao
Out of all these 13million "players" 99,9% of them havent played the game in a year or longer.

You can buy ESO + Morrowind for 5,99€ on Kinguin :D
Anybody can get this game for 5eur and see its *** in the first few hours.
That also explains why only 7% of the people got the first champion point achievement.

Despoine is of Greek origin meaning "mistress".
Kali represents all-devouring Time. In Hindu myth, the aeons of the Universe are divided into four yugas or ages, which descend from best to worst: the Krta Age, or Satya ("Truth") Age, a Golden Age; the Treta Age; the Dvapara Age; and the last and present age, the Kali Age. The present Age is the worst of them, when virtue is all but forgotten, people have too many children, and mankind will be destroyed.

Interesting statistics! Perhaps we can loosely estimate the number of current "regular" players based on this information. We can get a lot more complicated by defining what "regular" means, but let's leave that bit out for simplicity. Assumption: players who have surpassed the level cap are still enjoying the game. Of the 13 million ESO accounts which exist, a number shy of 1 million actually still play.

Interestingly, the number of ESO players estimated from the site "MMO Population" is ~1.03 million: comfortably close the initial hypothesis.

It must be different. Elsweyr or maybe before brought crazy lag all the time. Teleporting bodies that can’t be looted, Crazy VMA bugs, totally un responsive game play.

Now it is better. This is on a PS4 pro, if that makes a difference. PvE dungeons are %1000 times better. Cyrodil was quite smooth last night. Haven’t done trials or battlegrounds yet, but I’m hearing they’re running good.

If PC is still broken, you’ll probably get a patch very soon to help fix it.

Doesn't surprise me the number has gone up because this last update was definitely a step in the right direction. Most of the complaining on the forums is probably just from players upset they can no longer melt other players with their cheesy instant death combos in PvP.

This game does have serious performance problems though. They need to get a handle on that.

Starting off by name calling? Socrates. You already lost the debate. :)

As for numbers, all we really have is Steam. 17 000 players plus. I don't know if those are good numbers but that seems like a lot of players. Add in users that use the ESO launcher and PS4 and Xbox, it is over 100 000.

Thing is, if you go by 13 million you are still talking about 10 million people have stopped. So why would 10 million NOT BE PLAYING the game?

Saving 3 million players is good, BUT 10 million players are not. So your point is?
Not my quote but I love this saying

ok, were also not taking in to account inactive player, which is anyone that quit. Alt accounts, I have 2 in addition to my main. My friend has 5 in addition to her main. Most players ik have at least 1 alt account. Bots those are all individual accounts thats alot of fake ones. Previous ghost trader alts

    So lets just guesstimate here.

Lets say 1/3 of players have 1 alt, being generous as most players ik have at least one and most of them have alot more. Remember on console you can make alts for free.

    13m * 66% (remaining accounts is 2/3) we get 8.6m

ok so now lets say a 3rd of that is quit players. 5.6m

ok so pc is the most popular platform, that gets 2/4 of the population. console gets 1/4 each

    pc: 2.8m / 2 (na eu) 1.4m per server
    ps4 1.4m / 2 = 700k
    xbox: 1.4m /2 = 700k

That would be my rough guess for total active players. 5.6m in eso community. Pc with 2.8m, 1.4m each server. Ps4 1.4m 700k each server. xbox 1.4m, 700k each server.

granted that doesnt factor in bots but i dont think thats a super impactful number.

Remember that on Xbox you can create 10 accounts and get your own guild bank.
You will not level the 10 alt accounts, its just an way to bypass ESO+.
Also lots has tried out ESO as its free with gamepass, then dropped it.
This make Xbox an mad metric, yes active players is probably less than 25% of the 13 mill. Active is hard to messure in an non sub game but playing most weeks would qualify you as active in most metrics.

Who other relevant games? Yes Fortnight has more players, candy crunch has far more.
    This is relevant because?
Yes its "people" in upper management in Zenimax who want to focus on battle royals and mobile games as they make most money. So you rush another generic battle royal to the marked and have it splash.
Don't get me started on mobile.

And no I don't get Bethesda, if I was them I would kind of gone assassin's creed on their two franchises too maximize profit.

I know a significant number of people who have ten accounts so that they can create a personal guild and unlock the guild bank space.

Clearly not everyone, but it’s a good example of how account numbers do not equate to active players.

I agree with the OP though - there’s a lot to be happy about with this game. My abiding frustration is the poor communication with the player base and if ZoS could fix that, or at least improve it, I’d be a happy gamer.

I suppose it helps when they do the F2p events, game pass and whatever on PC/PS4 that draws thousands of temporary accounts in.

Let’s break this down a little bit with the simpleton math I can understand. 13 million accounts. 3 platforms. Well say 4 million per platform for the sake of simplicity. If they are roughly equally spread out.

I can’t figure out %7.25 level 50 characters in my head, but I can do %10 real fast. That would be roughly 400,000 accounts to level 50. But it wasn’t %10, it was closer to half that. Which would be 200,000. Plus a little more, I think you could roughly say 300,000 level 50 characters.

Btw, it’s %12.2 level 50 characters on PS4 so you know.

I’ve been told before that those numbers are completely inaccurate, so whatever on that anyways.

Only 0.6% of PS4 players have completed vMA. It's crazy to look at those trophy %'s. I think Belkarth alone holds 95% of all end game trial bois & gals, LOL :D

More than ESO infrastructure was designed for. Dungeon and BG queues freaking out, login queues on pc-eu until they added more servers.
Income and player based ESO is very healthy.
Performance is another issue, yes adding separate graphic settings for Cyrodil and trials would help a lot

There are definetly more than a hundred thousand people that play this game on a weekly base the only accurate-ish information we have is steam charts which shows around 18,000 players online at the same time on PEAK in the last 24hrs.
Which is only counting the steam players. It's quite inaccurate when you think about it not everyone plays every single day of the week. Plus it's definetly lower this week and probably the upcoming weeks due to WoW classic hype.

I didn't put the number out there. Someone much more informed did.

According to wiki, Skyrim sold 7 million copies the first week and 30 million copies by November 2016. That was five years after it was released in 2011

Apparently that made it one of the highest selling video games of all time.

While ESO doesn’t quite look like it’s going to reach those kind of numbers

Also according to wiki, in February 2017 Elder Scrolls Online had sold 8.5 million retail. That was 2 years ago.

Well, eso may not hit those kind of numbers ever, it’s appear to be doing okay.

I want it to succeed and prosper and keep doing well. Tired of all the doom and gloom threads. That’s all.

The success of Skyrim is why Bethesda was able to go off and do a number of projects that probably never would have happened. I figure that is Fallout 76 and Blades, possibly even Starfield.

One thing to note is that ESO won't have to hold the fort alone. ZOS's second game is supposed to ship this year. Maybe it already has. I have not been paying attention.

That's still almost a million level 50s on Xbox alone. That jives with previous comments about the game having around 3m concurrent users a month. Also, I have to mention depending on how they set up the achievement it could be out of all possible characters and not purely account-based.
