It is a rating the game assigns to your character. The more successful you are, the higher the MMR gets. The matchmaking then tries to put players with similar MMRs together in a match. So the more you win, the tougher the opponents you get.

there's a system which keeps track of your points earned in battlegrounds (per character not account)...
so the more you play and earn points you'll be matched up against similiar opponents, and grouped with allies whom have less points than you...
I've been using battlegrounds to level some toons...they're all around level 40 something, when I go into battlegrounds now I normally have players just starting out in battlegrounds in my group...every once in a while I'll get another player that's familiar with the different game matches...
if I want to place 1st or 2nd to earn the random daily battleground xp bonus I have to make sure to really hustle in the match...sadly I don't get carried very much anymore...

Yeah i do the same thing, used BGs to level up. What happened though is i started to enjoy them and not using them only for transmute crystals and xp. Now i wish i could stay at below 50 BGs as they are a LOT of fun, especially if i take time to gear up my char. But i guess i will never get better if i play easymode. Problem is i get totally overrun and devastated in normal BGs and its hard to keep the motivation up - but i will stick to it and eventually get good!

If i take time to craft a few sets and work on one of my lvl 30 chars, i stand a chance and can actually get a fair share of kills. Normal BGs though, i get totallu obliterated. Is this because most people in normal BGs have good gear and have played for a while, while below 50 is dominated by "noobs" like myself?
